Mark Steyn on Scotland’s demographic problem:
the remarkable feature of contemporary Scottish nationalism is that it has achieved all the features of a failed nation state without achieving the status of a nation state.
Sean Connery is gonna be pissed.

Yeah, I noticed Sean Connery was Scottish again. At first I thought it was somebody doing a bad Sean Connery imitation, but then I realized that was actually him.
“You’rre afrraid of ourr flleet. Welll, you shoulld be. Perrsonallly, I’d give us one chance in thrree. Morre tea anyone?”
Scotsman Sean Connery, playing Lithuanian Marko Ramius, a captain in the Soviet Navy.
“Wuaaaall, Mish Moneypenney. Ish time for me to move you to Glashgow and shart knocking you oop!”
As the saying goes, England forever, Scotland just a wee bit longer. Sadly forever is ending soon.
Pretty depressing, especially when you consider how much the Scots contributed to Western civilization, particularly in terms of classical liberalism and capitalism.
Who knows, maybe another screening of Braveheart in Edinburgh or Glasgow will stir the Celtic spirit and some unprotected shagging.
As a Scot (well half), I’d like to say that there are for more of us outside of Scotland than in it. Hell, there’s a decent chance there are more ethnic Scots in Canada than in Scotland! Canadians even had to teach Gael to the Scots when they wanted to relearn it.
Anyone who still lives in Scotland is either an aristocrat or a useless prat who couldnt be arsed to do anything with his life, nor could any of his useless ancestors. The land that produced the foundation of modern capitalism as well as created accounting as a profession has property laws that eliminate any real property rights (even worse than english laws that create the “right to roam”).

“There’s none more Scots than the Scots abroad, there’s a place in our hearts for the old sod…”
-Spirit of the West
Scottish engineers and bankers basically built Canada and provided its first PM. Although the Scot-descended portion of the Canadian population is much smaller than it was, their cultural influence is still huge, expecially in the military (and other traditional institutions), where there are many “Scottish” regiments among the reserve infantry, and even most non-Scot units have at least one piper.
In my hometown of Vancouver, the reserve infantry unit is the Seaforth Highlanders, and their dress uniform includes kilt and full regalia. Of course, Vancouver is a very multi-ethnic city now, and its heartening (and a little amusing) to see the regiment on parade with immigrants (and descendents of immigrants) of all colors from all over the world marching together at 110 beats / minute in kilts, sporrans etc.
