Al Haig says we have credibility problems to overcome in the Gulf. He’s right, of course.
Good point — especially used to argue in favor of toppling Saddam. But the best parts of the piece are his not-so-veiled insults of James Baker and Brent Scowcroft.

Hallelujah! Hey, do you think Bush II might find an opening for an experienced, former Secretary of State? Haig seems to have used his time away from Washington to have developed a remarkable amount of clear headed thinking. “I’m in charge” Haig may be a little bit of an asshole but he’s got my vote.
“But to seek new Security Council resolutions after Hussein’s blatant violations would also suggest that the previously stated U.N. demands were irrelevant and unenforceable. This is a sure way to discredit the United Nations”
And this is a problem because…?
Seems to me that the worst such an exercise would do would be to (1) force the EUnuchs to finally put up or shut up, and (2) bring home to the American street that the U.N. has become a playground for tinhorn dictators, their supporters, enablers and appeasers.
