The Only Thing Missing From the NYC Trump Trial Is a Laugh Track

On the first day of testimony in the New York City criminal trial of Donald Trump, the prosecutor brought in to Get Trump called this bookkeeping squabble a case involving a "conspiracy" to "corrupt" a campaign for office by using a media outlet to help. Please tell me this claim got a laugh in the courtroom.

This is especially rich from an office run by a former Hillary Clinton lawyer and another Obama Administration lawyer sent from Biden's DOJ to quarterback all the New York cases against the former president.

Matthew Colangelo said with a straight face, "This was a planned, coordinated, long-running conspiracy to influence the 2016 election, to help Donald Trump get elected through illegal expenditures to silence people who had something bad to say about his behavior." He told the jury that Trump stole the 2016 election. He intoned, "It was election fraud, pure and simple."

Of course, Hillary Clinton won in New York. This is a New York case. And, as Trump's attorney Todd Blanche told the jury, Hey guys, it's not even a crime.

"There's nothing wrong with trying to influence an election. It's called democracy. They put something sinister on this idea as if it's a crime," he told the jury. But this being a Trump-hating part of town where nearly 87% of the county voted for someone other than Trump in 2020, they think anything Trump does must be illegal. And how do they know this? Media manipulation, that's how. And the last time we checked, that's still not against the law.

Trump's alleged big crime in Monday's shortened testimony was knowing the guy who ran the National Enquirer. He bought the stories of the women who came from years ago to try to torpedo Trump's reputation during an election year with lurid tales of alleged sexual trysts. And then he killed those stories. From this, we are to believe that the payments former Trump attorney Michael Cohen sent to Stormy Daniels as part of a nondisclosure agreement were now to be computed as campaign expenses and not private ones. All of these payments but one were paid in 2017, after the election. None of this is illegal, but this is the "crime."

If it were illegal for Trump to be a Russian Secret Agent! then Hillary Clinton bankrolling actual Russian spies and secret squirrel contacts to completely make up the Steele Dossier to frame Trump was illegal. Only one guy who changed a FISA warrant was punished, and he's back at work in somebody's law office. Speaking of which, has anyone checked the roster for Kevin Clinesmith's name at Bragg's office?

The Obama CIA and FBI were all in on the hoax to change the outcome of the 2016 election. And the first people they called were the media.

A few other 7th-floor swells got the boot but were allowed to keep their pensions. And the media outfits that kept up the ruse? They never gave back their awards for their conspiracy to Get Trump.

These prosecutors have got some brass ones.
