America’s food police have issued a preliminary report saying that a vegan diet is healthier and more environmentally friendly than the alternative.
The Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee, an arm of the Department of Health and Human Services, said in a preliminary report: “A dietary pattern that is higher in plant(s) … and lower in animal-based foods is more health promoting and is associated with lesser environmental impact.”
Just say YES!
According to the food nannies, dairy and meat production are hurting the planet.
Fortunately, “It’s very unlikely that the panel’s recommendations will become law. The meat industry and politicians from agriculture states are fighting the committee’s suggestions.”
The beef industry has something to say about the report’s findings:
“Advising people to cut back on their red meat intake has had harmful consequences,” said Shalene McNeill, a dietitian who works for the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. “As red meat intake has declined, we are consuming more empty calories and obesity rates have steadily increased.”
Does anyone even listen to these government jokers anymore? Just yesterday, the Washington Post published a story about scientists disputing the government food nannies’ alarmism over salt.
“There is no longer any valid basis for the current salt guidelines,” said Andrew Mente, a professor at McMaster University in Ontario and one of the researchers involved in a major study published last year by the New England Journal of Medicine. “So why are we still scaring people about salt?”
Just ignore these ridiculous recommendations — if you wait long enough the government will retract them or a legitimate scientist will reveal them for the joke that they are.
