Chelsea Clinton is just as broke as her poor, impoverished mom.

Chelsea Clinton earned an annual salary of $600,000 at NBC News before switching to a month-to-month contract earlier this year, sources with knowledge of the agreement told POLITICO.

Clinton, who joined NBC News as a “special correspondent” in November 2011, was up for renewal or non-renewal this year. Instead, the sources said, the network decided to keep her on the payroll on a month-to-month basis so that the two parties could sever ties if Clinton’s mother, Hillary, runs for president.

So that’s more than $200,000 per year. NBC paid Clinton to be an unwatchable correspondent who didn’t write or produce her own stuff. Nice work if you can get it…

She only ever starred in a handful of stories. They were boooooring puff pieces. Chelsea Clinton has zero charisma and presence. This is middle school-level work, with all due respect to middle school broadcast students.

Is that $600,000 worth of talent? Nope. It’s $600,000 worth of access and $600,000 worth of trying to groom another generation of Clintons for the presidency.

Look, mom and dad were "dead broke" so like a good child she helped out.

Hey NBC and all the Clinton family groupies - if you are going to foist a royal family on us here in the USA, could you at least pick one that is a little smarter and way less obnoxious.

i remember when chelsea went off to stanford as pre-med. i guess being a doctor was too much like work. it didn't offer the chance to cash in on mommy and daddy, except for the guaranteed med school admission.

Looks like Chelsea can ticket sometime with that insufferable dolt Meghan McCain. McCain wasn't just a rotten candidate (though I was forced to vote for him). He must have been a feckless father too.

"Chelsea Clinton has zero charisma and presence. "

There's a Biblical reference for that: "As is the mother, so is the daughter."

You, too, can become instantly wealthy.
Persuade your father to cheat on your mother. Then have your mother get American embassy workers killed.
NBC will dump a truckload of hard-earned money in your lap.

Yes, but they are paying her so she can start her own political campaign, which they apparently want to happen.

Wow, I watched the clip with interest because my sister once worked/interned for a major TV station when starting out thinking she might do stand-up reporting. That's when I learned how difficult it really is. Both the on-screen demeanor and the, frankly more difficult voice inflection.

One not only has to read clearly, but know when to put those accents in. In this Clinton did poorly. She was mostly (although not entirely) clear in her speech. She also tried -- that much was obvious -- to inflect at points in the sentence. The problem was they were not the right spots. Also, the delivery was very stilted -- definitely self-conscious middle-school material in that sense.

She is quite far from being a "natural," that's for sure. Her onscreen presence is mostly dull. A good stand up reporter shows far more facial expressions -- it's ultimately acting.

The only difference between this example and all the previous ones is how in-your-face it is.

For decades, retired pols and pols between offices have been getting corporate board positions, "consultant" work, prestigious Wall Street jobs (despite a lack of business or financial training) celebrity academic appointments and assorted other sinecures wherein they have money stuffed in their pockets for a few hours of work a month.

All nice and legal...from interested parties wanting future favors or access to their rolodex.

Political children have been having their paths through life greased just as egregiously. If they can't actually provide value they can always be placed on the roster of some prestigious "charity" (long-time Kennedy specialty) or work for Daddy.

It's just that this sort of thing was previously done more quietly. Princess Chelsea's ticket-stamping path to the Throne is just so public and so obvious that I'm downright embarrassed for her. I can't wait till she runs for her first elective office. Something tells me there won't be any dues-paying years spent on school boards, county or state legislatures. Maybe President Hillary will start off appointing her Deputy Assistant Under-Secretary of Education, studying the effects of pencil sharpness and test-taking? Don't know how they intend to break her into Congress. An emergency appointment?

Would it help or hinder her brilliant career if hubby Marc Mevinsky has a bimbo eruption? Or if she has a horrible, tragic miscarriage (I'm sure the Ft. Marcy Park crew wouldn't put THAT past the Clintons!) Opinions gang?

Completing Mom's Senate term after she gets elected President in 2016? No reason not to start near the top, right? Experience is over-rated, after all, when you have such connections, right?

Well, Obama had no notable experience and look how well he's worked out. He's the best president ever according to his sycophants. Chelsea's got to do at least as well if she gets into the family business, right?
