Israel’s Ynet News is reporting on a chilling flier given to Jews in the eastern Ukrainian province of Donetsk, ordering them to register with the local authorities:

A leaflet distributed in Donetsk, Ukraine calling for all Jews over 16 years old to register as Jews marred the Jewish community’s Passover festivities Monday (Passover eve), replacing them with feelings of concern.

The leaflet demanded the city’s Jews supply a detailed list of all the property they own, or else have their citizenship revoked, face deportion and see their assets confiscated.

It was signed by the head of government in the region and was distributed by masked men outside the Donetsk synagogue after Passover prayers, and beyond. The region is home to about 17,000 Jews.

The leaflet was written in Russian and had Russia’s national symbol on it, as well as the Donetsk People’s Republic insignia.

“Dear Ukraine citizens of Jewish nationality,” the flyer began, “due to the fact that the leaders of the Jewish community of Ukraine supported Bendery Junta,” a reference to Stepan Bandera, the leader of the Ukrainian nationalist movement which fought for Ukrainian independence at the end of World War II, “and oppose the pro-Slavic People’s Republic of Donetsk, (the interim government) has decided that all citizens of Jewish descent, over 16 years of age and residing within the republic’s territory are required to report to the Commissioner for Nationalities in the Donetsk Regional Administration building and register.”

The leaflet detailed what type of documents the Jewish citizens would need to supply: “ID and passport are required to register your Jewish religion, religious documents of family members, as well as documents establishing the rights to all real estate property that belongs to you, including vehicles.”

If the message was not made clear enough, the leaflet further stipulated the consequences that would come to those who failed to abide by the new demands: “Evasion of registration will result in citizenship revoke and you will be forced outside the country with a confiscation of property.”

To add insult to injury, the leaflet demanded the Jews pay a registration fee of $50.

Anybody remember all the Putin apoligists who were constantly charging that the new Ukranian gov were Fascist anti semites, and Putin was going to take over Ukraine to protect the Jews. So now a pro Putin gov in the part of the Ukraine that Putin is about to take over is ordering the Jews to all identify themselves as potential enemies of the state. At least now we know who the real Fascists are.

This might be an attempt at creating crowds of refugees ... to be used as an excuse to "restore" order.

Why is there not a coalition force in the Ukraine today, facing East, saying "never again"?

If I was still in uniform I would happily be there. Sod it, I will go now if someone will give me an aircraft to fly so I can be of use and a firearm to defend any person who does not threaten another.

Is this the part where the the far left Democratic peaceniks and the dangerously isolationist, incoherent and naive Rand Paul wing of the Republican Party apologizes to Hillary Clinton for laughing when she correctly compared Putin to Hitler?

Thank goodness Hillary understands America needs a strong commander in chief who will protect this country and understand that America can't be scared of being a leader who will stick by our allies -- unlike not-ready-for-prime-time establishment Republicans.

You have got to be kidding. Hillary was the one with the reset button, who declared that Bush was too hard on Russia, and we could all work together from now on, and then cancelled the anti missle defense. Is anybody actually stupid enough to swallow this pro Hillary propaganda.

You see Hillary Clinton as a strong commander-in-chief? The woman who claimed to have been under fire in the former Yugoslavia when none of the others who were there can remember anything of the kind? The same woman who would have us believe that she would be the best person to handle a 3 AM emergency call, even though she only slept (occasionally) with a guy who had to handle a few such calls? Thanks but no thanks. I'd sooner put my trust in one of the White House gardeners.

The insistence that Jews pay $50 - I assume that is actually the equivalent of $50 in the local currency - is alarmingly consistent with the practice of East Germans while the Berlin Wall still stood.

I remember seeing a document about an East German couple who were expecting their first child. They felt that they couldn't bring a child into that place so they set about finding a place where they could cross the border to the West. While scouting out a possible route, they were suddenly fired upon by East German border guards. There was not even a warning shout, the border guards just opened up on them. The man threw his wife to the ground and covered her with his body until the soldiers stopped shooting. Unfortunately, it was too late; she'd been hit by one of the first shots and was already dead. He served seven years in prison for trying to leave his own country. Then the East German regime sent him a bill to make him pay for the bullets used to kill his wife and unborn child; he had to pay to avoid being jailed again.

Making Jews pay to register themselves would be quite consistent with the approach of throwing salt in the wounds....

Does no one commenting actually listen to what Rand said???

Neither the Russians or the Chinese or the Iranians are the problem in getting back into LEO that the Congressmen and Senators who have NASA Centers in their districts are. They are the ones cutting back commercial crew funding to slow it down so that Dragon Rider won't get into orbit faster than Orion. What they cut from the $820 millions for commercial crew is about 1/10th of what they are spending total on the SLS/Orion boondoggle.

What the General is trying to do is get then to stop that, and all anyone here can do is take pot shots at Obama? He's bad enough, ...don't make yourselves worse.

Speaking of worse, ... I am finding that scripts for PJ Media are becoming so dominant on my computer they are making it nearly impossible to get through Instapundit. My latest problem was this bit of code:

http://vdl.brandsmind.com/data/anyclip_1013d.php?cp=Anyclip%20-%20US%20-%20CPM%20-%20US_pjmedia.com:22

Could PJ Media please mitigate this. I am spending more than half my time at PJ Media pages looking at a spinning beachball by now.

I love it. We've got everything going now. Nazi tactics (think Czechoslovakia 1937/8) brnging in probocatuers, locals rising up, now the right-wingers are popping up. Glorious.

And yes, its bad. But so glorious.

Come on... If the US was in Ukraine, they'd be using the US symbol to back up their propaganda.

The Democrats, under Obama's Smart Diplomacy, assigned Democrat diplomats to Ukraine and approved USAID's support (a Democrat 'NGO'), both of them working under the authority of, and under the approval of, a Democrat Secretary of State, mind you. The Democrats, under the Obama administration, used your tax money to finance, organize and materially support the overthrow of a legitimate government in a foreign nation, causing chaos, death and destruction - and in the process they may have started WWIII.
In the process, they also replaced an admittedly bad regime with a much worse and well known far right wing NAZI organization.
We destabilized a government on the borders of Russia, a nuclear power, while endangering Russian nationalists and Russian citizens during a time when our relationship with Russia is not at its best...because of Obama's smart diplomacy.
BUT...somehow, you've bought into the MSM narrative that the Russians are the bad guys, here???
I thought the MSM always lied and couldn't be trusted because they were the Democrat propaganda arm of that party???
There's a reason the lefties think that conservatives and libertarians are stupid, you know.

Hahahaha

A few things. First the Nazis were not far right, they were left. Second, the Nazis are supporting the Russians in this one, openly Nazi in many cases. Stop blindly repeating Russian propaganda, you are one of the useful idiots. Recognise it, correct it.

No Russian citizens nor Russian nationalists (apart from a few authoritarians in government) were threatened until Russia attacked sovereign Ukraine, whose borders are guaranteed by the US, the UK and Russia by treaty.

Get a clue, stop making a fool of yourself.
