Benghazi: CIA Station Chief Contradicts Key Obama Administration Talking Point

For weeks after the fatal attack at the US facility in Benghazi, Libya, President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Susan Rice and other administration officials insisted that the attack occurred because of a protest. The officials charged that an obscure YouTube movie offensive to Muslims caused the protest, which led to the spontaneous attack.

According to the CIA’s station chief, there was no protest.

The attack was “not an escalation of protests,” the station chief wrote to then-Deputy CIA Director Michael J. Morell in an email dated Sept. 15, 2012 — a full day before the White House sent Susan E. Rice to several Sunday talk shows to disseminate talking points claiming that the Benghazi attack began as a protest over an anti-Islam video.

That the talking points used by Mrs. Rice, who was then U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, were written by a CIA that ignored the assessment by its own station chief inside Libya, has emerged as one of the major bones of contention in the nearly two years of political fireworks and congressional investigations into the Benghazi attack.

What has never been made public is whether Mr. Morell and others at the CIA explicitly shared the station chief’s assessment with the White House or State Department.

We may learn the answer to that question in a congressional hearing on Benghazi tomorrow. But most likely, we won’t. A source says that Morell did tell the White House about the station chief’s assessment, which would just provide more evidence that the Obama administration from the president on down lied repeatedly about the deaths of four Americans. Their motivation was clear at the time: They had an election to win. Obama had to rest up for a big fundraiser the following day and couldn’t be bothered to do his job as commander-in-chief. The Democrats have circled around the key lies in both the IRS abuse and Benghazi scandals, plus they now have the GM recall to provide a distraction. The media refuse to cover either as genuine scandals anymore, and they will also follow the GM storyline much more closely than they ever covered Benghazi. The Republican investigations are taking years and are far from aggressive enough. Both scandals cry out for special prosecutors, but neither are likely to get one.

Chances are, no one will ever be prosecuted — other than the man who made the film, that is — and Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton et all will have gotten away with yet another cover-up. In denying repeated requests for increasing security from Ambassador Chris Stevens, Clinton appears on track to get away with negligent homicide.
