I’ve often seen the literary phrase “lamentations of their women,” but I’ve never actually heard what such a thing sounded like — until today, that is.

In the early morning of February 26, after hours of debate, the UCLA student government rejected a motion to divest their funds from Israel, despite a concerted campaign by anti-Israel activists on campus.

Immediately after the vote, one of the anti-Israel activists on the panel burst into tears and started screaming and whining incomprehensibly, and in general throwing a tantrum worthy of a frustrated two year old. Luckily, the whole meltdown was captured on camera:

Commenters across the internet are saying that this exemplifies how liberals act when they lose. But I think it’s more than just that. This typifies the level of emotional maturity of the millennial generation who have only heard “yes” their entire lives, who have never been criticized, and who have always gotten exactly what they wanted. We are becoming a nation of spoiled children, and when reality smacks these youngsters in the face for the very first time — well, the reaction can be quite troubling or amusing, depending on how much you embrace the schadenfreude.

UPDATE:

The two videos on the next page seem appropriate, considering the circumstances:

What kind of babbling BS is this? We've got rockets on our northern border, threats to blow us off the planet, and this bimbo throws a temper tantrum because she can't BDS us? I wonder what she'd do if somebody explained to her that her behavior is antisemitic.

As a UCLA alumnus (undergrad, MBA, medical school) crap like that is why I will NEVER donate another cent to the school, the alumni association or the student body.

What nonsense from pampered princesses....grow up, honeys. Here's a message from Copernicus: The world does NOT revolve around you.

You've misattributed that video: that's from a science fiction convention where they learn the new Dr. Who will be played by yet another white man.

Thanks for the hysterical woman from "Airplane" references. I'll certainly join the queue to administer the remedy for this poor suffering child.

On a more serious note, American (Western) economic success has enabled and/or caused a disturbing infantilization of too many people. Our society fosters and encourages dependency and over-long metaphorical suckling by aging children who are plenty old enough to be functioning adults, but simply don't have to be because no one expects it from them.

I truly believe we need to shift law and public policy away from things like keeping "children" on our health insurance until they're 26 years old. I think we need to actually LOWER the age of full adult majority, to 18, for everything, including drinking alcohol. We should lower the age of sexual consent, too, IMO, to a biologically based number. Schools should have mandatory vocational and life skills training, like driver education. We should institute school policies that stop coddling, and begin holding children responsible for failure to advance and become reasonably well-functioning adults by the age of majority. Free public school should absolutely end by age 18 (or 19, if we want to give a grace-period), and tuition support for babies going to college should end. Colleges and Universities should NOT be surrogate parental maturation factories, as many of them currently seem to be.

Clearly, this would be a complicated and painful transition. But we should get started. Ending the Obamacare 26-year-old children rule would be an excellent first step. Ending partisan bias and green, eco-fascist curricula in public schools would be another good step, via vouchers and competition. Schools should return to teaching fundamentals in science, math and literature. We should outlawing tenure programs, public sector unions, and defined benefit pension systems (public and private), which infantilize the teachers. If we did many of these things, there would be whole lot of growing up going on..

I don't suppose there would be a transcript of her "oration" would there?

There is one, but it's not very detailed. Much of what she said was unintelligible. She actually wasn't an activist. She was a student note-taker whose job it was to neutrally maintain the transcript. Hence why she said that she always holds her tongue in these debates (until now).

According to media reports, her name is Danielle Dimacali. She's apparently involved in a number of left-wing student groups, and is also an undergraduate student assistant in a neurology lab. (Ironically, the lab's run by a pro-Israel professor. Presumably, she doesn't intend to divest herself of her job. For that matter, the iMac she's seen using has parts made in Israel... will she be divesting herself of that?)

On Legal Insurrection, a student claiming to have been against the boycott has demanded that the video be removed because she was neutral in the debate and she's a nice person and civility and stuff. What I find interesting is how advantageous it is for the Left to be able to put radicals into non-partisan, neutral positions like this. Normally, the mask doesn't slip like it did here.

The student (if he even is who he says he is) thinks that because she hid her feelings so effectively that that's a sign of character. But where do the Lois Lerners and Jamie Gorelicks of the world come from? Quiet, unassuming, ostensibly neutral bureaucrats who only slip a finger on the scale when no one is looking. Normally, these people are administrators, enforcing an ever-shifting set of "neutral" policies that always seem to benefit the far Left while shutting down moderates, conservatives, and libertarians. I'm not going to give her a cookie because she (barely) contains her hate, hysteria, and bigotry under a thin veil of neutrality.

Sad on many levels. A reminder of why I always did my best to avoid pointless membership in student organizations and still avoid meetings if I can. Never could understand people who got themselves so spun up over basically symbolic votes in inconsequential organizations.

You're really surprised at the temper tantrum? Why haven't you learned that most of the left are really spoiled brats used to getting their own way, so this is how they act when they don't?
