Obama's New Ambassador to Argentina Hasn't Been to the Country, Probably Doesn't Speak Spanish

But he raised an awful lot of money for Barack Obama’s campaigns.

Presidents often award diplomatic posts to campaign donors and fundraisers, but Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., suspects that Obama’s choice of ambassador to Argentina — a man who bundled more than $500,000 for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, but who has never been to the country — is in over his head.

“Have you been to Argentina?” Rubio asked Noah Mamet during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing Thursday.

“I haven’t had the opportunity yet to be there,” Mamet replied. “I’ve traveled pretty extensively around the world, but I haven’t yet had a chance [to visit Argentina].”

For a bit of extra spice, watch State Department spokesman Jen Psaki pretend to give a crap whether the guy even speaks Spanish.

This is the third or fourth ambassadorial nominee this week who has turned out to be totally unqualified, but who won consideration by donating to Obama’s campaigns. That’s the kind of thing that Prince Hopenchange swore he’d put a stop to.

President Obama is selling ambassadorships to his donors. He hasn’t put specific price tags on specific countries (that we know of, anyway) but selling these gigs is what he’s doing. It’s been done before, but probably not on the scale or with the shamelessness that Obama is doing it now. He seems to be going out of his way to find ridiculous nominees just so he can make a mockery of the entire confirmation process.
