Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was in a position of some responsibility when Obamacare passed and became the law of the land. She was speaker of the House and led in crafting the bill. As a Democrat leader, she continued to bear some responsibility for the implementation of the law. She certainly took credit for passing it.

But last night, she told The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart that she doesn’t know why its rollout has been so awful.

The segment opens with Stewart asking a simple question: “I meant more in terms of like, ok — we are going to set up a health care web site that is an exchange. People are going to come to it. Why is it so hard to get a company to execute that competently?”

Dumbfounded, Pelosi responds, “I don’t know.” After an awkward pause, Stewart bursts out laughing in her face and then riffs on her position in the Democratic Party.

“Uhhh — let me get the House minority leader here, I can ask her. Hold on. Wait, what do you mean you don’t know? How do you not know?”

Pelosi finishes up with a shirk: “It’s not my responsibility. But I will say this: we worked very hard to honor our responsibility to pass a bill that honors the vows of our founders: life, a healthier life,  liberty to pursue your happiness.”

She did not say, "honors the beliefs of our founders life, liberty and property to pursue your happiness.". She said, " ... life, a healthier life, liberty to pursue your happiness ..."

A HEALTHIER life? The founders believed in socialized medicine? The founders never said a thing about a healthier life. She lied and tries to make the liberty dishonoring monstrosity that is Obamacare into a founding principle of the nation.

That's all they do. Lie, lie, lie. Big government projects and forcing people to buy what they don't by calling it a tax even though it is not has absolutely NOTHING to do with the principals of the founders. The "life" in "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is not about health. It is about the right not to be killed for the convenience of an out of control tyranny, something like what the Obama administration is becoming with the president enforcing only the laws he likes, giving out illegal exemptions to the law, and bypassing checks and balances by executive order. I wonder how many people will die from Obamacare, due to its forcing people off plans that worked for them.

That's death, not life, you liars.

OMFG. She and her cronies and fellow-travellers CHOOSE to disrupt our health insurance system, and it's NOT THEIR FAULT? Horse crap. It is ALL their fault.

"But I will say this, we worked very hard to honor the responsibility to pass the bill that honors the beliefs of our founders life, liberty and property to pursue your happiness.” I doubt that even she is stupid enough to believe that, but I suppose it's possible.

Thanks, California, for inflicting absolute morons like this on the rest of us.

Oustanding comments. Indeed, the TX GOP is run by incumbent money and power, which attempts to control the Court system, as the only branch of government that really matters. So much for fiscal conservatism, socialism has come to Texas in the form of the PAC, "TLR" Texans for Lawsuit Reform.

WOW. A totalitarian is faced with the failure of her own totalitarian policies (that she personally championed!), and she bleats out random words from the Declaration of Independence to try to wish her way out of the increasingly uncomfortable limelight. AMAZING!

Maybe performances like these will gradually push Stewart away from his own socialist views. One can only hope.

And yeah, I think we all caught that she misquoted the Declaration of Independence—but then, given her agenda, she would have to misquote it.

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
—Declaration of Independence.

First, the less the government gets in the way, the more opportunity I have for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Second, why do all our government official only quote this, the first line, in the Declaration of Independence? There is a lot more to it. A lot more that their current policies don't line up with. Perhaps they need to reflect on the line

"whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it"

for awhile.

That is one of the most gaseous statements I've ever heard coming out of a politicians mouth. And it sounds SO stereotypically Democrat.

Stewart caught her out. She literally has no idea what's going on. Nope, not her problem. She "honored the Founding Fathers" - her work here is done. Let somebody else worry about the pesky details.

Stewart, a hypocrite, believes on socialism. He does not want the socialist brand to crash and burn because some of its' leaders are dumb.So he is calling her out to protect the cause.

Stewart is a complicated fellow. While you can tell by some of the things he says he is very smart, he also is a believer in socialism. I have hopes that someday he will really apply his intellect to the ramifications of what will happen if socialism were adopted and leave that bunk.

Socialism is just repackaged serfdom and slavery to appeal to the 'scientific' and 'modern' intellectuals and elites.

He was trying to give her a chance to redeem and promote her vision. She failed utterly. Even Stewart couldn't save her debacle and didn't try.

There are many opportunities for the GOP to re-brand and redeem itself. That they choose not to is in itself a very telling statement of the vision and direction the GOP leadership has. We are past tired and yes, I think they may have crossed the Rubicon already—"alea iacta est".
