This photo appeared Tuesday night on the Texas Border Volunteers Facebook page. It shows a torn black bra and a small purse hanging from a tree in what is said to be a “rape tree” — a place where Mexican drug cartel members and coyotes who smuggle humans across the border rape one or more of the women among them. Rape trees have been known of since at least 2009, but they tend not to feature in any discussions of comprehensive immigration reform.

Border activist Linda Vickers took the photograph near her home in Brooks County, which is in the Rio Grande Valley southwest of Corpus Christi. It is not on the border, but it is on the pathway between Hidalgo County, other border counties, and points north.

Vickers posted these comments along with the photo.

Rape tree and increase in illegal alien traffic abounds in Brooks County.

Rape trees in Brooks County are becoming overly abundant. This is not the first one I have found on my property or on surrounding ranches. Nor is it the only one I have heard about recently.

I spotted this(torn black bra and an empty little purse) across the fence on my neighbor’s property on the 13th of December. The proper authorities were called and the information passed along to law enforcement. This is way too close to my home and tackroom. Illegal alien traffic is off the chart in this area of my home. It is overwhelming and every day that passes….I feel less and less safe. In the last few weeks, this feels like a legitimate invasion that we are experiencing in Brooks County, Texas.

A friend told me that he called in 50 illegals that he had a visual on. Border Patrol could not send anyone!!!! Not their fault since they are undermanned and many times they have large drug busts at the BP checkpoint.

The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, is right that the Feds should be protecting our borders and doing something about this, because they are constitutionally obligated. But they don’t care, and the Federal Government isn’t going to do anything but give us lip service and tie the hands of Border Patrol. It’s time, hell it’s past time, for Texas to take care of Texas. This insanity needs to stop!

Yeah, she's the problem. How dare she fear for her own safety when people are trespassing on her land and commiting violent acts.

What's horrifying to me are jokers such as you who look past the actual problems with your disgusting moral relativity.

Not buying it. The BP is not undermanned. They are mismanaged. There is a difference. Sending two guys in a SUV to patrol 100 miles of border while a dozen or so stay at the office is mismanagement of resources. The BP is also subject to Comrade Obama's whims and often are not allowed to enforce the law.

If the people of the great state of TX were allowed to treat these people like trespassers there wouldn't be many crossers. (I lived in TX for 8 years, trust me, the law allows a property owner to cap your ass if you're uninvited on their property after dark) But the feds have disallowed this, even charging landowners defending their property with crimes and allowing lawsuits. Shameful.

But it's the Republicans waging a War on Women. Honestly, how can a few hundred rapes even begin to stack up against the real horror of making grad students pay for their own birth control?

This faux creation named Barak Hussein Obama and his claque are buying future votes with this deliberate inaction of theirs on an obvious national security problem.

First things first:
..........Future-voter harvesting trumps National security.

There's no end to this Obamas**t.

I can tell by the comments that most of you are not from the border.
Illegal traffic flows both ways.
The bra and purse belong to a woman from the US side of the border Dude.
The coyotes do rape women who have hired them to assist in a crossing, but this ornamentation of the rape tree is a warning and a sneer at someone on the US side. The girl was snatched.
A good site to keep up with cartel news out of Mexico is boderland beat.

Now, are these acts of rape committed by men with the best intentions or are they perverted acts by human smugglers who take advantage of the situation created on our border by our administration's non-enforcement. Our administration is working hand in hand with these sick perverted beasts and giving them virtual immunity.

Rape trees have been around longer than 2009. I remember reading about them at least two years before that.

Coyotes are the scum of the earth, they are essentially slave traders. The only solution to the coyote problem is better border security. I am convinced, however, that our politicians have been bought off by drug traffickers to keep our southern border open for easier smuggling (drugs, weapons and people).

I think Paul Ryan should experiance a rape tree. I am not beig crass here. These people in DC have no clue. The projection of American morals and values on the Mexican people is a fatal flaw.

They do not believe in much of anything that accords to American values. Simply does not exist in their culture.

But to subject the American people to this onslought of unfettered illegal trespassing due to politics is not only immoral, it is amoral.

Serves no one. Mankind is less human when the Feds promote the circumstanes that propogate such.

I'm just a guy on a farm in South Texas. Again, people need to know what is going on. You will not hear it from government. Their motives are not your motives.

This whole immigration of illegals into this country is shameful. Stop it, and send those here back to where they came from.

Problem solved.

Live in Mexico for awhile. Nice place on its own merits. Not a culture you want in its millions in a politically correct America. That's nothing more than a suicide cult scenario.

Horrifying. Also horrifying: that the person who submitted the picture seems to be far more "offended" that this is happening on or near her property than that it is happening at all.

What I don't get about the "rape tree" is why its there? Is the bra and purse a sign so a guy knows where to go to rape a woman? Or is it a warning? If its a warning I'm not sure who the message is for, since the victim is an illegal being transported along a route. If its a sign, do you really need help finding a convenient place to rape some woman? Just not getting it.

And if people know where the tree is, why not put up a trail camera and some IR sensors so that when the guy shows up to rape a woman someone can cap him with a .30-06?

What I was wondering, too. What is the point? And do illegal females wear black bra's when they're trudging miles through the desert. I immediately wondered to myself what size bra the lady making the report wears, and if her wardrobe is missing any small black purses that she never wears. I don't blame her, though -- if she set it up to get publicity that she's being invaded, good on her. I don't understand why the states along the border don't send in their own cops. Didn't there used to be something called the Texas Rangers, for example? Where are they ranging these days.

No, not "good on her" because faking a situation, and especially a rape situation, would undermine credibility.

That she, a self-proclaimed "activist", faked this photo had occurred to me, but her use of the term without much explanation in the letter suggests it's a thing and that others involved in border patrol are familiar with it.

I suppose it's a threat, a territorial mark, so to speak, from the cartel thugs. It does seem weirdly obvious, though.

Her attitude is _a_ problem. That's a far cry from this woman being _the_ problem.

Yes, she should be afraid and she should be angry that her concerns are not being appropriately addressed by law enforcement agencies. However, I'd have a lot more compassion for her plight if she'd evidenced a shred of sympathy for the women who are being raped.

But then, I'm not the moral relativist...rape is wrong, it's dehumanizing and it's evil, regardless of who the victim is.

Plus, I'm skeptical of anything self-proclaimed "activists" do and say. You can credit the Obama administration for that.

No Sunny Jim, I hold you responsible for the attitude you are exhibiting which is to condemn someone not for their actions, which was to report on this tree, but for their so-called lack of compassion for which you have no evidence. There is nothing wrong with the attitude shown by this woman but yours leaves much to be desired.

Worry about holding yourself responsible for your unfounded assumptions and cold, cavalier dehumanization of others, 'k?

Yes, I condemn this "activist" for her clear lack of sympathy for the women who are being raped in the same breath she's complaining about law enforcment's lack of sympathy for her plight. Her letter is evidence.

If you don't like my attitude, feel free to ignore it.

Charity starts at home.

You start at home & work out.

For instance, air plane passengers are told to done their own masks 1st in case of cabin depressurization.

You assumed she is unsympathetic. Would you also assume a person who passes a beggar on the street without giving any aid is unsympathetic to the homeless? The Blaze had a story of a NYC cop who bought a homeless man a pair of boots only to have the homeless man sell them for money so he could obtain whatever.

If you confront the coyotes you'll be out gunned. If you are not out gunned then the ACLU, SPLC, Eric Holder and the other leftists riff raff will sue you.

When the government supports the citizens, all citizens, they tend to be more civic minded. If not some will & some won't.

This is not a one off. If she confronts the coyotes they be a next time and another and another. Very soon her luck will run out and her ticket will be punched.

But I am sure you are sitting safe somewhere.

You cannot even hold yourself to the standards you expect from others....cold, cavalier, and dehumanizing sounds exactly like your condemnation because she expects the Federal Government to do their job. She didn't show any such lack of sympathy for the "plight of the illegal immigrant". That's just your ridiculous projection. As to ignoring you, don't comment and I will.

You are correct, sir/madam. I not only do not see your accusation but reject it outright. Expecting the border to be policed properly is not suggesting that rape victims were asking for it. In fact, it is begging the Federal Government to do their job and prevent the rapes from happening but I suspect that you are incapable of seeing that.
