Apparently Vlad is jealous of Barack Obama. America’s president doesn’t have to make any moves to tighten his grip on anything, not when the majority of our media do his bidding voluntarily.
(Reuters) – President Vladimir Putin tightened his control over Russia’s media on Monday by dissolving the main state news agency and replacing it with an organization that is to promote Moscow’s image abroad.
The move to abolish RIA Novosti and create a news agency to be known as Rossiya Segodnya is the second in two weeks strengthening Putin’s hold on the media as he tries to reassert his authority after protests against his rule.
Most Russian media outlets are already loyal to Putin, and opponents get little air time, but the shake-up underlined their importance to Putin keeping power and the Kremlin’s concern about the president’s ratings and image.
That last paragraph sounds like MSNBC, where hosts devote entire shows to promoting a single Obama policy and where they go out of their way to ask the Lightworker “easy” questions. It also sounds like the New York Times. Most writers at Politico. ABC and NBC, both of which helped create and sell the race angle in the Martin-Zimmerman incident. CBS other than Sharyl Attkisson. Etc.
We think Putin’s actions can’t happen here, and they probably can’t, but not for lack of trying. President Obama is among several leading Democrats who openly attack Fox News. Some Democrats in Congress want to legislate a definition for journalism that would clamp down hard on bloggers and others who do journalism outside the left’s gated journalism community.
But for the First Amendment, it could happen here and already would have.
