For the first time in his presidency, a majority of Americans believe that Barack Obama is not honest and trustworthy. A new Quinnipiac poll also finds that Obama’s overall approval rating is down as voters disapprove by 54-39. A majority also oppose Obama’s initiatives on a host of major issues.
38 – 53 percent on foreign policy;
35 – 53 percent on immigration;
32 – 62 percent on the federal budget;
36 – 60 percent on health care;
38 – 59 percent on the economy.
More worrying for the Democrats, Obama is slightly underwater with a demographic that they covet nationally and need if they’re to win anything in massive Texas: Hispanic voters disapprove of Obama’s job performance 47-41.
Obama’s signature issue is also a loser.
Only 19 percent of American voters say the quality of care they and their families receive will improve in the next year because of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), while 43 percent say it will get worse and 33 percent say ACA won’t affect their health care.
Voters oppose the ACA 55 – 39 percent, with men opposed 59 – 37 percent and women opposed 51 – 41 percent.
American voters are divided 46 – 47 percent on whether Obama “knowingly deceived” the public when he said people could keep their existing health insurance plans if they wished.
The magnitude of that lie, told serially across several years, just hasn’t sunk in yet.
Obama’s signature response to a crisis — give a speech — isn’t likely to help improve his numbers. Once trust is lost, people tune you out.
Quinnipiac’s finding squares well with Rasmussen’s, which finds that 55% want Obamacare repealed.
