Obama Set the Precedent for Blocking Laws You Don't Like

President Obama and his allies in the press insist that now that Obamacare is the law, everyone should just get in line and take it. Stop resisting. Do as you’re told. Respect Obama’s authoritah! Even if the law is a pile of partisan junk intended to fail and usher in a government-run system.

But just two years ago, President Obama sang a very different tune on what to do with laws on the books. The Defense of Marriage Act, which had been passed by a bipartisan congressional majority and signed into law by Democrat President Bill Clinton, was the law of the land. Obama’s own Department of Justice had defended it in court in 2009. But in 2011, with DOMA still the law of the land, Obama ordered the Justice Department to stop defending it.

WASHINGTON — In a major policy reversal, the Obama administration said Wednesday it will no longer defend the constitutionality of a federal law banning recognition of same-sex marriage.

Attorney General Eric Holder said President Barack Obama has concluded that the administration cannot defend the federal law that defines marriage as only between a man and a woman.

DOMA was the law. It was the administration’s obligation to defend it, but Obama ignored that and has militated against laws affirming the traditional definition of marriage ever since his own election year conversion on the issue.

So, as usual, he is a hypocrite with no ground to stand on when he tries to stifle dissent on Obamacare.
