Breitbart reports that Virginia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe has declared that he wants to import Colorado-style gun control legislation to the commonwealth.

In the section titled “Investing in Virginia’s Urban Centers,” TerryMcAuliffe.com now contains the heading, “Support Common Sense Gun Control Measures.”

Under that heading, it says McAuliffe “will support mainstream and majority supported gun control measures like universal background checks, limiting the size of magazines, and a return to the 1-gun-per-month rule.”

The limitation on magazine capacity is a Colorado-like gun control measure that will put law-abiding Virginians at a disadvantage the moment it is enacted. This is because criminals will not obey it but will keep their “high-capacity” magazines so they can outgun their victims.

Universal background checks will mean an end to private gun sales in the state of Virginia, as they did in Colorado. This happens because Virginians will have to get the government’s permission, via a background check, in order to sell or buy a firearm.

Virginia may be trending blue thanks to the Beltway bandit and government employees infesting NOVA, but the state’s gun laws are among the most open in the country. Virginia is an open carry state. Outside NOVA and Virginia Beach, where they expel kids from school for using airsoft guns on their own property on their own time, Virginia remains pretty conservative.

When Colorado Democrats forced laws similar to those McAuliffe supports through the state legislature, two Democrats were swiftly recalled and booted from office. It’s beyond certain that Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli will use McAuliffe’s support for similar laws against him.

Terry McAuliffe may have just killed off his chance to win.

McCauliffe is going to, if elected, try to rule by fiat, rather than govern within his actual delegated powers as governor. He has made similar noises regarding VA's newly restrictive abortion laws.

People need to remember that when Democrats these days are elected to executive office, whether President, mayor, or governor, they become autocrats, and ignore both legislatures and courts. This also goes for Mega RINOS like Bloomberg. Trying to "moderate" these authoritarians by electing an opposing legislature doesn't work anymore.

Last poll I saw, said only 33% of the population supports new gun control laws of ANY kind.

Somebody ought to inform McAuliffe there are no "majority supported" gun control laws.

If Cuccinelli were smart, he'd connect McAuliffe's desire for Colorado style laws and the Va Beach suspensions. The latter is about punishing the parents more than punishing the kids involved; it's about killing the chicken to scare the monkey: It's part of a whole and with a little help, people will see that, if they don't already.
