Now along comes the influential, left leaning, Salon.com with this “most read” piece by David Sirota.

The headline and subhead are enough to make me first recoil in horror and then weep for our nation. See if you do not have the same reaction.

LET’S HOPE THE BOSTON MARATHON BOMBER IS A WHITE AMERICAN

There is a double standard: White terrorists are dealt with as lone wolves, Islamists are existential threats

The piece is accompanied by the above photo of Timothy McVeigh and Osama Bin Laden.  Please read the entire piece because it is a window into a warped left-leaning mind set.  In my opinion here is the most offensive paragraph:

Because of these undeniable and pervasive double standards, the specific identity of the Boston Marathon bomber (or bombers) is not some minor detail — it will almost certainly dictate what kind of governmental, political and societal response we see in the coming weeks. That means regardless of your particular party affiliation, if you care about everything from stopping war to reducing the defense budget to protecting civil liberties to passing immigration reform, you should hope the bomber was a white domestic terrorist. Why? Because only in that case will privilege work to prevent the Boston attack from potentially undermining progress on those other issues.

Now, here is my theory about why the left and the mainstream media are openly cheering/hoping that the Boston bomber will turn out to be a Timothy McVeigh type rather than an Islamic terrorist.

If the perpetrator was “radicalized” (a term the media is now using) in a training camp somewhere other than in the USA, that could mean President Obama may be forced to take some future international retaliatory action.  In fact, that action might even resemble actions taken by George W. Bush after 9/11 when he ordered the invasion of Afghanistan.  Oh, that would not sit well with the left, but you have to admit the irony is priceless.

Furthermore, if the bomber turns out to be influenced by foreign radical Islamic forces that would also mean homeland security, once again, becomes a front and center issue in our national dialog. It also means that President Obama failed to protect this nation from an Islamist inspired terrorist attack and that would be his worst nightmare — giving his past propensity to want to downplay that kind of threat.

But if the Boston bomber is revealed as a right-wing nut job, then the mainstream media has a more explainable, less feared villain.  And that would make similar attacks easier to prevent in the future by just rounding up all the right-wingers and taking away their pressure cookers.

The name of Timothy McVeigh has been mentioned countless times since Monday’s bombing, but wishful thinking will not make it so. The truth is more than likely the real perpetrators may be from the same group that then Secretary of State Condi Rice referred to when she testified before the  9/11 Commission saying:

The terrorists were at war with us, but we were not yet at war with them.

Hopeful headlines such as the one above from Salon.com, will not make a 2.0 version of Timothy McVeigh the Boston bomber, no matter how many times his name is mentioned.

In case anyone's wondering about Canadian reaction to the Boston bombing, our newly annointed Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau (son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau) had this to say:

-----
In an interview with the CBC’s [Canadian Broadcasting Corporation our equivalent to the BBC] Peter Mansbridge that aired Tuesday night, Trudeau was asked how he would have responded to the attacks that killed three people and left about 170 injured.

Trudeau said he would offer the American material support “and at the same time, over the coming days, we have to look at the root causes.”

“Now, we don’t know now if it was terrorism or a single crazy or a domestic issue or a foreign issue,” he said. “But there is no question that this happened because there is someone who feels completely excluded. Completely at war with innocents. At war with a society. And our approach has to be, where do those tensions come from?

“Yes, there’s a need for security and response,” Trudeau added. “But we also need to make sure that as we go forward, that we don’t emphasize a culture of fear and mistrust. Because that ends up marginalizing even further those who already are feeling like they are enemies of society.”

As you can see, he's a bleeding heart. I'll bet he's gearing up for an apology tour already. The bad news is that of the five major parties, the NDP, the Liberals, the Bloc Quebecois and the Greens (the Greens have only one seat in Parliament but are treated like a big party) are all Leftists. Only the Conservatives are actually nominally conservative. The good news is that the Conservatives are the party in power right now and will be for at least two more years. But we had a really weird election last time and it's entirely possible the Leftist parties will get in power next time. The media loves Justin Trudeau so they may con the voters into choosing him next time around. Obama may already be looking forward to having a like-minded empty suit running things here.

Justin Trudeau's track record prior to entering Parliament is similar to Obama's before he entered politics: no real accomplishments at all. Mind you, he is the son of our most-socialist Prime Minister so he has a bit of a JFK Jr. vibe (except that he's alive).

Setting aside the ridiculous assumption that is "white privilege", does Sirota really not see that there are several influential NGOs (al-Qaeda, etc.) whose animating purpose is explicitly Islam? Or that several Islamic states openly support these groups?

Normal people just want us to 1) find the guy 2) if American, give him a fair trial, 3) stick a needle in his arm or lock him up for life.

Myra, they don't want an easier explanation, they want a "blame non-leftists" explanation.

You can bury the murder of our ambassador under a false "video" explanation and then weasel out of it by saying "it no longer matters", but you can't bury this story...Boston is not Benghazi.

Will Bill Ayers, Michael Moore, Oliver Stone and Jeremiah Wright call these attackers "minutemen", saying that Obama's drone chickens are coming home to roost?

No, ...so they have to hope beyond hope that it is a white, Republican, Tea Party, "religious extremist" who is mad about the taxes being damn high. Otherwise, ...a Saudi national with family at Gitmo and ties to Al Qaeda means that our crack team of Obama/Biden, Hagel, Kerry, Holder, Brennan, Rice and Napolitano...have to formulate a response.

Who wants to bet me that they "arrest and go dark"?

"Myra, they don't want an easier explanation, they want a "blame non-leftists" explanation."

Frankly, I think some of them want a "starting pistol".

Now I'm getting paranoid about the new ricin incidents. Real attacks, or attempts by someone to gin up an "anti-government extremist" narrative?

Especially the mysterious package supposedly addressed to Obama. Won't the paranoid Left rally around their poor, precious One if the's threatened?

Sirota does a good job of cherry picking here, but actually provides more evidence that his most feared theory is correct. McVeigh really was a bit of a lone wolf (lone wolf +1 as it were). The much-hoped-on-the-Left militia ties were slim and the militia movement was never more than a boogeyman anyway. Anyone remember anything militia related since the mid-90's?

OBL and Islamic terror groups are whole groups with a common ideology of destruction.

Actually - McVeigh was not a lone wolf and sponsored and trained by what appears to be Iraqi's. That's not some hairbrained conspiracy theory - just facts covered up by the FBI and Janet Reno (remember her?) because it would have looked bad to have missed the obvious signs.
Read "The Third Terrorist: The Middle East Connection to the Okalahoma City Bombing" by Jayna Davis. The copious notes, interviews, eye witness accounts, etc. are impossible to ignore. (the book is a bit of a slog but worth the read)

FBI - Fumbling Bumbling Investigations (and I have friends who work there that chuckle at the acronym well earned with prior screwups) Let's hope they get it right this time.

What the left most fears is that the bomber has ties to the OWS movement and given what we what know at this point that an OWS/Truther is the mostly likely candidate for the bomber. Just consider the target was an event celebrating the founding of the Republic, not the IRS or LE and no group wants to take credit for it. I am betting on a lone wolf OWS type who wants to "strike a blow against the man"

OWS has definitely come to my mind. It's been long enough for the most radical members to realize that no popular uprising will come out of the OWS movement, so they'll be desperate.

So Sirota is hoping the bomber is Bill Ayers?

"Islamists are existential threats" Um, only because they have the stated goal of destroying the West.
