Washington Post Unofficially Joins Terry McAuliffe's Campaign

How does the Washington Post love Democrat Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe? Let’s count the ways.

1. It helps him bury bad news, and leads to its own stories, by publishing his failures on Friday nights.

McAuliffe stepped down as GreenTech Automotive Inc.’s chairman sometime before Dec. 1, which is the date of a letter from GreenTech’s chief executive, Charles Wang, accepting McAuliffe’s resignation. Wang’s letter, forwarded by a company official Friday, thanks McAuliffe for his service but does not mention any reason for his departure or specify the date of his resignation.

That’s one of those “See, we covered it!” stories the Post will flog when anyone questions its objectivity.

2. It lauds the abrasive McAuliffe as a jolly sort who brings people together.

Part of the reason Terry has been a successful guy is because he works the phones and brings people together to get the best ideas,’ Schwerin said. ‘We’re lucky to have the 2009 team helping us even as they’ve moved on to new day jobs.

3. It happily breaks news that he’s doing something he couldn’t really get away with not doing, participating in debates.

Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Terry McAuliffe has agreed to take part in five debates.

The McLean businessman and former national Democratic Party chairman will face Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II (R) in November.

“I look forward to a discussion about how we can make Virginia the best for business through workforce development, a modern transportation system and 21st Century jobs,” McAuliffe said in a statement Friday.

4. It publishes editorials aping McAuliffe’s campaign talking points, in what ought to be classified as an in-kind donation to his campaign.

So, the Washington Post has found four ways to show its love for Democrat McAuliffe, just in the past couple of days. How sweet!
