Bob Woodward: Obama is Showing 'Madness'

Legendary reporter Bob Woodward is blasting President Barack Obama’s sequester antics, labeling them “madness.” Woodward made the comments on MSNBC this morning, ironic given that network’s hard left politics and Obama boosterism.

Specifically, Woodward cited an Obama decision not to deploy an aircraft carrier to the Persian Gulf, citing “budget concerns,” i.e. the sequester.

“Can you imagine Ronald Reagan sitting there and saying, ‘Oh, by the way, I can’t do this because of some budget document?'” Woodward said.

“Or George W. Bush saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to invade Iraq because I can’t get the aircraft carriers I need?'” Or even Bill Clinton saying, ‘You know, I’m not going to attack Saddam Hussein’s intelligence headquarters,’ … because of some budget document?”

The Defense Department said in early February that it would not deploy the U.S.S. Harry Truman to the Persian Gulf, citing budget concerns relating to the looming cuts known as the sequester.

“Under the Constitution, the President is commander-in-chief and employs the force. And so we now have the President going out because of this piece of paper and this agreement. ‘I can’t do what I need to do to protect the country,'” Woodward said.

“That’s a kind of madness that I haven’t seen in a long time,” he said.

The president’s fearmongering campaign reached a hysterical new level today, in an email signed by operative Stephanie Cutter that predicts a rise in homelessness if the sequestration cuts kick in. If they do, they would amount to a slowed rate in the growth of overall spending, barely a drop in the overall federal spending bucket. In the face of these modest cuts in the rate of the growth of spending, which has been accelerating wildly under Obama’s presidency, the administration is releasing illegal aliens and threatening to drop the nation’s guard at the border. The decision not to deploy the Truman says that the administration is content to drop our guard globally, all for the sake of politics.

We’re a long way from the president who promised that his election would be the moment that the planet began to heal. This president is wrecking the country. Obama is threatening to go Soviet and starve people if he doesn’t get the tax hikes that he wants. The media today have the same obligation that Walter Duranty had during the Stalinist famines that he witnessed — to tell the truth. Duranty chose to lie. It remains to be seen whether the current media will follow Bob Woodward’s lead and tell the truth about what this president is doing.

In response to Woodward’s truth-telling, leftist Media Matters has attacked his age and called on him to retire.
