Via R.S. McCain, the Miami Herald took a trip to the Dominican Republican, not on Dr. Melgen’s private jet. The little but important details of the prostitute scandal swirling around Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey check out.
[S]hreds of evidence in Santo Domingo show that, at the very least, the women Williams described exist.
Take an apartment in Santo Domingo’s upscale Gazcue neighborhood that Williams said was used for sexual liaisons. In April emails to a watchdog group, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, Williams alleged that Dr. Salomon Melgen, a friend and major campaign donor to Menendez, rented a unit for a Brazilian prostitute named Maria and a Colombian prostitute named Geraldine.
The apartment exists. When reached by phone, the landlady said that two young women named Geraldine and Maria had indeed lived there last year, and said the nationalities matched.
However, the landlady, who declined to be named, did not believe the women to be prostitutes — she said she thought they were beautiful foreign exchange students — and had never heard of Menendez or Melgen visiting the apartment. But she complained that the women had nearly destroyed the unit, even leaving the wallpaper torn up when they abandoned the apartment last year.
When the little details check out, there’s usually a foundation of credibility to the story.
And then, there’s the mystery Easter flight of Dr. Melgen’s private jet.
Details, details. They keep checking out.

When ever you hear someone say they won’t dignify the charges? GUILTY as HELL. The Clinton defense. Next we will be hearing about some vast, right-wing conspiracy.
This Senator Menendez is pure scum – the bottom of the barrel; a corrupted freeloader and child predator posing as statesman.
There is one good thing to come out of all of this, though – that is, besides a world class hypocrite and fraud has been busted. Perhaps since her daddy is a known pedophile, it will keep that insufferable Menendez daughter off the tube; another talentless stooge “famous” solely on account of her well connected daddy.
He’s already calling them ‘smears’ by ‘right-wing blogs’.
Expect the media to fall in line.
What’s the difference? It’s his personal life.
The “D” after a politician’s name can work like Teflon. Nothing sticks.
I’d be careful about making that inference. A lot of accusations and insinuations are made just to take up the accused’s time and energy with denials. A non-response tells us nothing in which we can have confidence.
There’s a story about a Broadway producer — call him Smith — whose show was tottering financially. One day Smith was called by a top Variety reporter — call him Jones — about it. The conversation went thus:
Get the idea?
Well, you side with Harry Reid and I’ll side with hookers and we’ll see which one of is right.
You mean to tell me if you had just been accused of hustling under age girls, your public response would be, “I’m not going to dignify that accusation with an answer?” That going to fly with your wife?
Come on Francis. You’re better and smarter than that.
Why not have the guy who called Dingy Harry Reid to tell him that Romney hadn’t paid taxes in ten years check this sleaze out? He’s a reliable person and is well trusted by our media.
Just like with Clinton, John Edwards and Anthony Wiener the big media guys are moving heaven and earth to sweep the Menendez story unde the rug. Too much stuff there already, not gonna work.
It won’t matter. There will be no consequences. The man’s a Democrat, so none of this is considered newsworthy by the LSM. It’s a ‘smear’ concocted by the evil right wingers.
• The age of consent in the Dominican Republic is 18. Prostitution is legal as long as it is a person-to-person transaction with no third party involvement. It looks like Senator Menendez is guilty on both counts.
Exactly how much extra revenue via page hits have been brought in?
In order to find some truth behind all of this, young prostitutes in the Dominican Republic were rounded up and shown pictures of the genitals of Senator Menendez.
It was felt that if they could positively identify Menendez, there would be some evidence against him. So they were asked to name the man, based on the picture.
Harry Reid objected furiously… but… his name was guessed six times.
Thanks for your article on this weblog. From my own experience, occasionally softening up a photograph may possibly provide the digital photographer with a little bit of an imaginative flare. Many times however, the soft clouds isn’t just what exactly you had at heart and can in many cases spoil an otherwise good picture, especially if you consider enlarging them.
