Situations like this, which happened Wednesday near Houston, are among the reasons it would be unwise to ban magazines based on their round capacity. Erin was in her home putting her young son to bed when three masked men broke in.
“When I saw three of them, I knew I was in a lot of trouble. I said, ‘The TV is the most expensive thing I own. You could take that through the front door and go with it,’ and they said, ‘No, the money, the money,’” said Erin.
Erin said she had to think fast as the men headed towards her son’s room. The mom said she distracted the men as she rushed to get her gun.
“Somehow the way it happened, as they were going down the hallway, I told them sometimes I keep money under the mattress, which is not true. But I needed to get to where my gun was,” she said.
The men followed her to her bedroom.
“I was pretending to move the mattress. It’s really heavy, so I was trying to move their attention to the mattress because they wouldn’t take their eyes off of me. I needed a split second for them to take their eyes off of me. I said, ‘It might be under here.’ They started talking to each other in Spanish and then a roll of duct tape came out,” said Erin.
At this point, Erin said she prayed for something to distract them so she could grab her gun. She said her prayers were answered when her dogs ran in and started barking.
“They all turned around and looked. I grabbed my gun, cocked it, I turned and shot him right in the stomach,” said Erin.
More at the link, and a second video version of the story here. The one she shot was later arrested at a local hospital. Erin’s quote after the attack deserves to be spread far and wide.
“Protecting yourself goes into our Second Amendment, the right to bear arms. And thousands of people died to give me the right that saved my life,” said Erin.
Indeed.
Odds are that the three men are in the US illegally, whether they are or not, though, they obviously broke a number of laws. Odds are they have come into contact with law enforcement before. Odds are Erin and her son would be dead if she had not been armed and known how to operate her firearm in a stressful situation.
Here is the gun Erin used to save two lives and stop three criminals. It’s obviously a modern semiautomatic, making it evil by definition.

I’m guessing the “cowering in fear” tactic that the government proposes wouldn’t have worked here.
Slightly off topic: supposedly, 2/3 of the gun deaths in this country are suicides. How, then, do the anti-self-defense folks argue for a magazine size limit? Think about it…
Close, for 2010, the latest CDC data available, suicide was 61.2% of all gun-related deaths. But you’re right, they only need one round. That’s why gun control is about banning all guns.
Unfortunately her situation doesn’t carry the same amount of moral authority as Gabrielle Giffords or Paul Heslin. And when she stated her gratefulness for the 2nd Amendment is sure to get her labeled as a teabagger, gun-toting, Bible thumping, homophobic, xenophobic zealot.
Then learn how to turn the alinsky when it happens. Call them a bigot. Do they know this person? Are they saying everybody who defends their child is a teabagger? Do they know this woman hates homosexuals? Are they saying homosexuals don’t have the right of self-defense from violent gay-bashers because defending themselves is politically incorrect?
See where I’m going with it? Study Alinsky’s rules for radicals. Learn to turn the topic and personalize it, attack them and don’t give up until after they do. Make them go away, preferable far, far away to another country where they can live in their gun ban utopia instead of telling others how to live.
