Jason Mattera caught up with New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg at the US Conference of Mayors on January 18. Bloomberg has been making headlines lately for pushing gun control, and New York State passed one of the most sweeping gun bans in the nation earlier in January.
Mattera confronts Mayor Bloomberg and asks him to disarm his praetorian guard, in the spirit of gun control. Bloomberg balks.
“Uh, we’ll get back to you on that,” Bloomberg says. Bloomberg’s five visible, and very large and armed, bodyguards get between Mattera and the mayor.
But that’s not where the story ends.
Once Mattera’s brief conversation with Bloomberg is over, he leaves the scene.
And one of Bloomberg’s body guards follows him.
Though the confrontation took place in Washington, D.C., NYPD Officer Stockton claims that he has “security jurisdiction.” Officer Stockton then tries to get Jason’s personal information. Mattera refuses, so Officer Stockton follows him down the street. The officer is clearly trying to intimidate Mattera for asking Bloomberg a question that made the mayor uncomfortable. There is no reason to believe that the officer is acting without orders from Mayor Bloomberg.
Mattera has been playing clips from the video today on the Andrea Tantaros Show with Jason Mattera. Watch the full video here.
More: Register … or Rebel: How Many New Yorkers Will Defy New Law?
Update: Jason Mattera tweeted that there Officer Stockton’s claim of “security jurisdiction” doesn’t hold water.
We checked with a former NY prosecutor who said there is no such thing as “security jurisdiction.” Paging Bloomberg: breitbart.com/Big-Journalism…

Nothing to see here. No need to protect ourselves from a tyrannical government or over zealous government employees who use their position to intimidate those who disagree with them.
Liberal tyranny is okay, apparently.
Failure to recognize sarcasm is not o.k.
Perhaps he was simply agreeing?
So where these guys violating D.C. law?
Gun control supporters aren’t against guns, they are against guns for the little guy.
It’s hard to accept that the security officer has the authority claimed. Does this apply to the security team for any U.S. mayor? Any government official?
No he has no authority to follow the journalist down the street, since the journalist has not violated any law and there is no felony occurring.
I think that the journalist can easily sue him for harassment and intimidation.
And he is in violation of the First of course.
But of course the courts are often controlled by the same feudal lords…
Maybe being harassed by a security officer is a “tax”…
I doubt there are grounds for a successful lawsuit. Mattera should have refused to show his ID. Then the security jerk would either have to respect his rights, or not (then subjecting himself and Bloomberg to a lawsuit).
Aint that the truth because you know the DC DA won’t do squat about this obvious violation of this mans 1st amendment rights. Jagoffs.
If the officer is outside of his jurisdiction, he’s got the same citizens’ arrest authority as any other citizen, and nothing more.
And since they were in DC, and this was a NYC cop, the really proper answer would’ve been “Screw you.”
And that’s not even touching on the “Where the hell do you get the ‘authority’ to demand ID because someone asked a question?” matter.
I remember a story of someone who was sent to the hospital by an entire NYC precinct, male and female, simply for arguing with a NYC cop. Then they charged him with “assulting a police officer”. This was quite some tinme ago, before cell phone cameras changed the equation.
I don’t how many would have agreed wityh me, but I would have just stood there and screamed “help, police!” at the top of my lungs. I wonder if he had a license to carry in DC; perhaps there is reciprococity for things like that.
I’m curious why he asked if he wanted a sip of his soda. I’m guessing it was a joke, but I can already hear my classmates explain this away as the reporter somehow suggesting he was going to poison Bloomberg. Any one know what that was about?
Patty, it’s because Bloomberg pushed a ban on sodas over 16oz in New York. “New York City Health Department became the first in the nation to ban the sale of sugared beverages larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, mobile food carts, sports arenas and movie theaters.”
Read more: http://healthland.time.com/2012/09/13/goodbye-big-soda-new-york-becomes-first-city-to-ban-large-sized-soft-drinks/#ixzz2JIQGJ1nP
Bloomberg banned sodas of a certain size. So offering him a soda is just a way of pointing out what a fool he is and to offer him a chance to be as hypocritical in that realm as he is with his own security.
Patty – Bloomburg passed that silly legislation banning large sodas. It was a dig at the stupidity of the law.
Because it was a big gulp. Banned in NY by Mayor Bloomberg.
That Patty didn’t know that speaks volumes.
Is anyone surprised. All Democrats (and Bloomberg once had that “D” after his name) live by the same creed: do as I say, not as I do.
Bloomberg for King!
Down, peon! Who asked you?
Greetings:
Well, MAyor Bloomberg didn’t say he was in favor of goon control now, did he ???
Haha, good one!
Okay, this thread has a winner.
The Supreme Court has made it clear with their rulings over the years..Law enforcement has NO right to ask for citizens ID’s on the street if the citizen has broken no laws. You cannot be “detained” for a crime or under scrutiny for “Probable Cause” with law enforcement just thinking you are a threat. I would have told this ass hat to stuff it.
Sorry, not trying to hide. Just forgot to put my handle in the 1st post before hitting “Submit.

After Squeaky Fromme, Sarah Jane Moore, and John Hinckley, we need to recognize the dilemma for executive protective details. The video indicates that the detail got sucked into tunnel vision focus on Mr. Mattera. On the video, it appears Mr. Mattera initiated physical contact. Following Mr. Mattera for some distance from the scene is ridiculous, depletes the detail and draws exactly the attention we have here. I suspect that there were fixed position cameras recording the incident. If the officer needed to identify Mr. Mattera, there are ways to do that without a street chase and intimidation.
This mayor has long had an “above the herd” attitude as far back as the limos with engines and air conditioning running for extended periods while empty.
What precisely are the protocols these days for non-native D C armed protective assignments ?
It is now a matter of record that the District will only selectively prosecute violators of its own firearms laws.
Ridicule is a great tool for the toppling of naked emperors. Mr. Mattera is using traditional techniques to educate folks about a serious problem.
On the larger question of the Second Amendment, the discussion was actually exquisitely framed almost 45 years ago by Dohrn, Ayers, etc when the progressives and left incited everyone to have firearms, and to resist government. I feel everyone should have the right to possess the same items and supplies which they did. If they now object, then they demonstrate that it is not a Constitutional issue, but one of the fungible membership of the nomenklatura maintaining power.
Imagine the MSM outrage if Romney had began his public political life in McVeigh’s visitation cell, and had continued to work with and praise him for years. McVeigh and Ayers and Dohrn all did exactly the same acts. McVeigh was caught, tried, and executed. Ayers and Dohrn weren’t. Why ?
Laws apply equally and always to everyone, or they apply to no one. In effect, now, there is no law, only power. History is stuffed with examples of how that ends. GBUSA
They got out on tainted evidence or something.
On the other hand, I don’t think there is a statute of limitations for treason. Why can’t Jane Fonda and others who encouraged mistreatment of American POW’s, be prosecuted? In fact, I wonder if John Kerry can be (although not for treason).
@Pat, it was just a jab at Bloomburg for banning large sodas in NY. Mattera has a tallent for snark.
I mean @ Patty, not Pat.
Choose Your Own Crime Stats
An interesting look at Crime Stats in the United States using data from the FBI that doesn’t seem to be getting much discussion from either the press or politicians. There has been a 50% reduction in the violent crime rate in the last twenty years and neither political party is taking credit for this? I thought politicians always wanted to take credit for good things? Perhaps they don’t want to draw attention to the fact that higher crime rates seem to correspond with inner cities? The great thing about living in the United States is you’re Free To Choose, at least for now, so feel free to Choose Your Own Crime Stats if you don’t like these.

This is just great, Jason Mattera in less than 2 minutes show the hypocrisy of Bloomberg and the rest of those Democrats that have tax payer security. While Obama uses ‘gun control’ for political purpose his children are protected by 9 Secret Service agents and 11 private school guards; hypocrisy. Just last week he signs for himself life time security paid with tax payer money; hypocrisy. I have heard that Congress has exempted themselves from any gun laws including carrying guns in DC by become a “Federal Marshall”; hypocrisy. Look at what these elected people are doing, they are acting like rulers rather than elected, these people are complete hypocrites, Feinstein is armored up because she ‘needs’ protection, how did we ever get into the position of having such AH’s in Washington.
A NYPD officer in Washington DC, is out of his jurisdiction, and has NO authority to be behaving as this officer did. If there was a perceived threat to Mayor Bloomberg, the DC police should have been notified and handled the situation. Since Mr. Mattera, had already left the scene of his interaction with Mayor Bloomberg, there was no threat, and no need for any follow up. In fact, the NYPD officer in question, has no authority to be carrying a concealed weapon in DC, as he most probably is doing. But the DC police will not arrest a brother officer, where they would arrest you in a heartbeat. However, if you are an upstate NY State police officer, the NYC police WILL arrest you if you carry your concealed service weapon in NYC.
The “sip of my soda” thing was a joke. He was holding an eeeee-vil Big Gulp…
@Patty and Ray
Probably a subtle jab at the NYC 16 ounce soda ban, however…
Not to go full Tarantino on the video, the “sip of soda” could have just been a cute reference to Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, right before Jackson and John Travolta shot up the punk’s apartment. A subtle way of calling the security detail a bunch of goons.
With the almost total disarmament of the civilian population in the District, the only ones left with guns are the Government and the Criminals. Difficult to tell the difference these days, though.
Since NYC is supposedly a gun-free zone, why does Bloomberg need all that security? Just wondering.
They’re in DC, as well — another gun-free zone.
Why does Bloomberg need protection in places he’s declared safe?
And it’s only going to get worse, gang. If you dare ask a real question, they will shut you up faster than you can say “First Amendment.” These people don’t believe in anything that’s in the Constitution, don’t you get that yet? They only believe in the rights THEY think you should have. And THAT is the difference. So when they come for your guns, and they will, I think that’s when the country officially falls apart. Do NOT force Americans, real Americans, to choose between the Constitution and an ever more repressive central government in Washington. Washington will lose.
The reporter should have demanded this supposed police officer’s identification (which every citizen has a right to see when someone represents themselves as a law-enforcement officer on duty) and if he refused to produce it, he should file a report of impersonation of a police officer.
If it did not clearly grant them civil authority in the jurisdiction, he should have told him to go pound sand – not shown his ID.
This self-proclaimed flatfoot has his rights and his responsibilities inverted.
I’m sure the mainstream media will sneer at this type of “journalism” but I recall Sam Donaldson screaming at President Reagan at the GOP Convention. Am I recalling that incident right? He was a hero for doing that, right?
Didn’t that reporter in Iraq throw shoes and Bush laughed about that… and he was important, unlike minnow Bloomberg.
“Papiere bitte”: The motto of the Democratic Party
He should have asked for the “Officers” ID and Badge number and pulled out a pen and paper to write it down saying he was filling a complaint against the officer for harassment and violations of his civil rights.
It is in fact seems, by the description, intimidation by a “law enforcement” officer, vice a “peace” officer. All too common.
are we talking about mayor bloomberg or senator palpatine?
Yes. And that’s Emperor Palpatnine to you.
Bloomberg: Dark Lord of the B’nai Brith.
Bloomberg’s no more a Jew at heart than Muhammad Morsi
I would have told the Bloomberg thug I don’t recognize your authority, asked for his ID, pulled out my cellphone 9/11 and said, “There is a stalker following us impersonating a police officer.”
Bloomberg is the biggest “small” penis going. I hope the entire world starts mocking this little, fascist twit.
Awesome job Jason!
Jason should have called MPD on his cell phone saying he was being stalked by someone with a gun.
That would have gotten somebody’s attention.
“Though the confrontation took place in Washington, D.C., NYPD Officer Stockton claims that he has “security jurisdiction.””
That’s a new and interesting assertion. I have “security jurisdiction” for myself where ever I go.
Make Bloomy spend some of that ill gotten gain of his and Sue the Bast_rd.
When the little man from Austria took away law abiding German’s guns, only the little man’s guards had guns.
When the little man of NYC takes away law abiding NYC citizens’ guns, only the little man’s guards have guns.
The similarity is staggering…
Fascist Bloomberg surrounded by 5 ARMED guards. Is anyone surprised?
But look at the ass on that—(now run away.)
If someone had written about banning large sodas in a science fiction novel in the ’50s, it would have been considered the height of wit, cuz it would never really happen.
Nor would civil rights groups turn out to be the successors of white supremacist groups,
or that foreign nationals would dictate our immigration policy by basically saying thieves should have the right to tell banks they can’t lock their doors,
or that a too white city was wrong,
or that a hit song would be called “F-ck You,”
or that children would imitate sex by humping parquet floors at the half-times of high school basketball games,
or that the ideal American would be a fat, black, Mexican, lesbian.
Hahahah. Never happen.
And it’ll never be mandatory for kids under 14 to wear helmets at all times outside the house. Or use salt.
There is no such thing as “security jurisdiction.” A NYPD officer has no authority outside of the five burroughs and certainly not in Washington DC. If he thought that Mr. Mattera was a potential threat he should have asked a Metro DC police officer to get the information.
NYC operates on a double standard. An officer out of his jurisdiction cannot bring his weapon into NYC. That include Federal Agents not on duty in the city.
Jason Mattera is to be admired, for this and in general.
Mikey “the nanny” Bloomberg and DiFi have double standards on guns, disarm thee and me, absolutely, but themselves or their “security” ? No freaking way.
There are certain people who have the admirable quality that they prove class is innate to the individual and not to the currency they can throw around.
Trash like Mikey Bloomberg and John Kerry show that no matter how much money or power or media fawnery you have trash tells. It simply does.
Matera’s only mistake was in showing the thug his ID. The proper response should have been, “Are you detaining me?”, and if the answer was “No,” then Matera should have continued on his way and refused to talk to the asshole.
“I have security jurisdiction.” What a damn joke.
Whenever Bloomberg says that he traveled by subway he omits the fact that he takes a Big Suburban to the 72nd Street station from his townhouse on 78th street. A squad of a dozen NYPD cops go into the station and clear out a subway car for Bloomberg. The Suburbans race to City Hall to meet the Mayor there. No one is allowed in the Mayor’s subway car except for his security detail. I don’t think that Bloomberg has ever met a middle class person since becoming King of New York.
This ‘reporter’ is an idiot. He should have told the “cop” to stuff it, and walked away.
And what’s wrong with the cameraman? He should have been filming the whole thing.
Anybody else see the goons commit assault?
Yes, they did.
Mayor Bloomberg’s a totalitarian.
If the cop is from New York, then he was sworn in in New York state, and that’s where his jurisdiction ends.
GM
The man could be a jerk, but he at least knew enough to not be a Fascist Jerk.
Still, New Yorkers voted for the man over and over again, and that the Democrats pretty much presented oatmeal from last week to run against him every time is only a partial explanation, and no excuse.
I hear that every night while he sleeps Bloomberg grows a little moustache right under his nose that doesn’t extend out beyond the borders of his nares. He has to shave it off every morning.
or his asshole?
Bloomberg’s got a raging Napoleon complex and New Yorkers are shockingly allowing the diminutive nut-bag to control every aspect of their lives. According to a report in the Daily Rash, in an interview with Maury Povich, Bloomberg warned that women who refuse to breastfeed their babies in NYC hospitals could face jail time. http://www.thedailyrash.com/mayor-bloombergs-impassioned-crusade-for-mandatory-breastfeeding
Yup, and he wanted hospitals to lock up formula and the mother had to give good reason for each feeding. He doesn’t see the irony that just a month before that, the woman was free to expunge that same life from her body in a macabre procedure, now, she has to beg the state’s permission to use formula.
I vowed never to set foot in Manhattan again unless I had to, and I mean it. New Yorkers can have their petty dictator.
Aren’t journalists in DC above the law? So, why was Mr. Mattera being harrassed by bloombergs’ goon?
Wrong kind of journalist. Not a Party Member.
Politicians trump journalists, and left-wing creepazoids trump anybody who questions them. Didn’t you get the memo?
what Jason should have asked the mayor is: “How are you going to dis-arm the bad guys?”
remember what Thomas Paine taught us: “Because bad men will not
good men dare not cast aside the sword ” .
Mike is a two-face who needs to shut his piehole regarding guns, large sodas, and anything else he can think of except bloomberg terminals.
With Bloomberg as with the USURPER its just the perennial Liberal case of ‘Do as I SAY not as I DO’.
The greatest MASS MURDERERS of the 20th Century, Hitler Mao and Stalin, were all Socialist CONTROL FREAKS just like the USURPER and the rest of the ‘Liberals”
Any civil rights lawyers out there? Is this grounds for a section 1983 claim? The security guy was clearly acting under ‘color of authority’. If his acts otherwise deprived the reporter of any protected civil right (was the stop long enough to be ‘false imprisonment’, perhaps), wouldn’t that be sufficient to at least make the claim?
Unlawful detention by the NYPD outside of their jurisdiction.
Sue them under 42 U.S.C. 1982.
*1983
They did the same to me. I reported to CCRB and IA because Det. Lynch of Mike’ s private security got physical but he did not hurt me and refused to identify himself and they have to obey police protocol.
They tried to remove my 2 YouTubes.
I will have CCRB letter today.
Also Leopold McClean same division shot someone off duty and also did not obey protocol he is in jail.
so much for bloomberg and guns
Your Youtubes?
NEW FLASH: There is only ONE Youtube, and you don’t own it. Ergo, there is no such thing as YOUR “Youtubes”.
You may have a Youtube account, and you may have a Youtube channel, and you might possibly have posted two videos on Youtube, but there is no such thing as “my Youtubes”.
Is there anything more boorish that a pedant?
We all understood what Suzannah was saying.
Why be an ass when there is no reason.
As a former federal personal security person – there is no such thing as “security authority.” WDC has mutual agreements with Maryland and Virginia, but I do not know of any mutual security agreement between NY City and WDC. In HOng Kong we US security were required to turn in our weapons to Hong Kong police and THEY provided out of this world security for our dignitary. Bloomberg is a pig and an ass and a bully and . . . I could go on. He bought his election and wants to appoint his puppet as he next mayor. I propose no one – no one – buy anything made in New York City and no one spend as much as a dime in that slime hole. Bucks is the only way to get to Bloombeg, since his deity is the almighty dollar.
http://mayorbloombergkingofnewyork.blogspot.com/2013/01/mayor-bloomberg-private-nypd-in-trouble.html?m=1
Read copy and paste I get a letter will read on Youtube with CCRB response to Bloomberg Private Det guy just like this one not following protocol and also discourteous and intimidating.
