The Arab Spring continues to bear poisonous fruit. In the past week, Hamas has fired more than 100 rockets against civilian targets in Israel. Israel responded today with a precise surgical strike that eliminated a top Hamas terrorist. Israel followed that strike with a warning to Hamas militants not to show their faces for a while. Egypt now says that it will no longer tolerate Israel defending itself from terrorists.
CAIRO: Egypt’s Islamist Freedom and Justice Party, formerly headed by President Mohamed Morsi, said on Wednesday Egypt would no longer stand by as Israel attacked Palestinians after air strikes killed a Hamas leader.
The FJP, the political arm of the powerful Muslim Brotherhood movement, said Israeli air strikes that killed top militant Ahmed al-Jaabari in Gaza earlier on Wednesday required “swift Arab and international action to stop the massacres.”
The party, which fielded Morsi in a June election to replace toppled president Hosni Mubarak, said Israel “must take into account the changes in the Arab region and especially Egypt.”
The Israeli Defense Forces and Hamas have — I’m not making this up — started a war on Twitter in addition to the shooting war.
Egypt recalled its ambassador to Israel, and Israel’s ambassador in Cairo is reportedly leaving as well.
Yet the media asked zero questions about any of this during President Obama’s annual press conference. Maybe next year.

Can anybody count the times the U.S. involved itself in nation building since 1947, that has paid any real dividends? Can anybody independently estimate the number of lives mmaimed and lost directly or indirectly to nation building efforts since 1947? Can anybody independently estimate the number of billions upon billions of dollars wasted on nation building since 1947? Most often it is the wiser to deal with a devil you know, understand and can marginally control than one you don’t know or can control.
You are right! Of course, you are. No More Nation Building!
People who pose a credible threat to us or to our close friends, and who appear as though they would be getting ready to make good on their threats, should have their butts kicked pronto, and so hard and for so long as it takes to make them cry “Uncle” three times! AFTER that, and only if they beg us really nicely, should we even waste one word of debate concerning us helping them rebuild THEIR mess.
Nation building is not our job, certainly not the job of our military. And even if it were, all of recorded history, but especially our more recent attempts, should have taught us how completely futile that is until the above conditions are met. No point talking with people who are still shooting at you, or whose past behavior has shown that they routinely call for truce only when they’re losing, but resume hostilities as soon as they have caught their breath!
I hope Israel attacks and takes BACK all of the territory she foolishly returned after 1967, hoping for a lasting peace. Not gonna happen! Sooo, she might as well get set to defend a strategically more defensible territory! And, this time, KEEP IT! “Nothing to negotiate. Attack us, you lose it all. ” After 45 years of the Peace Process (LOL), that seems to be about the only proposition which hasn’t been tried, yet. Time she were!
We started out on a relatively good course in foreign relation strategies until immediately following WWII when morons came up with what we know as the United nations today. Its been cascading downhill for America every since! Just look at the hostilities around the globe and the general disdain for America today.
Quite so. — Playing “nice” to a bunch of human rights violating dictators and their kept destitute and uneducated rabble, in the hopes of gaining their “respect”, let alone “cooperation”, has not been working too well?! — Did anybody expect otherwise? They live by corruption backed by force. They need to croak, all by themselves, from that cocktail, so they can’t blame us.
Unless they pose a real threat; then we can speed up that process. Only after all that would there even be the ghost of a chance that things might improve. I’ve come to believe that, these past 40 years. Being “nice”, UN style, has cost time, treasure, and blood, and accomplished nothing but our own impoverishment. That dog never did hunt.
