The Gospel According to Apostle Barack – A Real Book Title
Seriously, this book entitled The Gospel According to Apostle Barack: In Search of a More Perfect Political Union as “Heaven Here on Earth” is not a joke. It is just an incredibly sacrilegious and downright embarrassing book given that its author, Barbara A. Thompson, is a professor at Florida A & M University.
Pity her poor students who are going into hock to attend her classes. Now I fear even more for the future of our nation if this is the kind of manure students are hearing from their professors.
The book’s premise is God spoke to Professor Thompson, telling her that Apostle Barack Obama’s 155 speeches made between February 10, 2007 and January 20, 2009 had the answers to unlock the kingdom of “heaven here on earth.”
This book was written to be taken seriously but I find “God’s words” to Ms. Thompson totally laughable.
Get ready for more books discussing Obama’s legacy, real or imagined, from both a divine and human perspective. All I know is that it is going to be a very long four years.
In case you were wondering if there is any sanity remaining among Americans in light of President Obama’s reelection, read the customer reviews at the end of this piece. This one is my favorite:

Yes, Barack had worked tirelessly on behalf of the American people, especially those who elected him in 2008. His followers needed to re-elect him to a second term, so that he could continue to accomplish the promises he made, thus, realizing his vision of America as a more perfect political union or “heaven here on earth.”
Then, as I began to contemplate ways to assist Barack in his 2012 re-election bid something miraculous happened. I felt God’s (His) Spirit beckoning me in my dreams at night. Listening, cautiously, I learned that Jesus walked the earth to create a more civilized society, Martin (Luther King) walked the earth to create a more justified society, but, Apostle Barack, the name he was called in my dreams, would walk the earth to create a more equalized society, for the middle class and working poor. Apostle Barack, the next young leader with a new cause, had been taken to the mountaintop and allowed to see over the other side. He had the answers to unlock the kingdom of “heaven here on earth” for his followers. The answers were repeated – over and over – in speeches Barack had made from his presidential announcement to his inaugural address. Those speeches or his teachings contained the answers to the middle class and working poor people living in a “heaven here on earth.” For when the answers were unlocked and enacted, Apostle Barack’s vision of America would be realized.
About the Author
Barbara A. Thompson is a native of Tallahassee, Florida, with graduate degrees from Florida A&M University and Florida State University. She has been teaching for more than twenty-five years at the university level with experience in the areas of health, physical education and sport management. She is a professor at Florida A&M University, a former assistant vice president for academic affairs, past president of her university’s chapter of United Faculty of Florida, a graduate of the National Education Association’s Emerging Leader Academy and a two-time recipient of the Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers Award.
The Gospel According to Apostle Barack: In Search of a More Perfect Political Union as Heaven Here on Earth, her first work of nonfiction was inspired solely for the desire and the goal of re-electing Barack Obama, Jr. to a second term as President of the United States. The words contained in this manuscript were extracted from one hundred and fifty-five (155) speeches Barack made between February 10, 2007 and January 20, 2009. It is the intent of the Author to offer this manuscript as a guide to the President’s followers in their formulation of re-election focus groups based on the percepts espoused herein. The one good thing that may come out of the effective neutering of the Christian Right is that there is probably going to be a little fight between the African American Christian community and the elite-college community.
It doesn’t have to happen, but the first is not used to be told “no”, and will not take it well.

And I’m not really joking here about the “can’t be told ‘no’” bit. Ancedote is not data, but….two weeks ago I was listening to a new sports radio station, and one of the hosts–a clear African-American voice–was talking with his other host and said “I’m bigger than you. I’ll beat you up” as his justification for something or the other (I think who was going to present something first).
My telling of it is poor, but believe me when I say that given the context, it was clear that what we had was a very self-confident man whom society has so encouraged that he now considers himself “booted and spurred”, with others to ride. You see the same thing with all the post-football play posturings on the field. They are exactly what I imagine Achilles did after every kill. Displays of pure Id.
I’ll be even more blunt–you are kidding yourself if you do not think there is a “master race” sub-thread going on in certain ethnic communities. I don’t think it will come to predominate, but it is there.

Full disclosure: I’m going to allow others to spin this any way they want, but I strongly feel the above–that some black men now indulge their egos to a level inappropriate, and get away with it because society will give them the benefit of the doubt should you complain–because I’ve been the loser of such a thing. I quit that job, will never work for that organization (it was the Navy) again–but I still lost.
Call me old-fashioned, but would God’s earthly representative really work tirelessly “especially for those who elected him in 2008″? That seems rather selective even for a run-of-the-mill President, not to mention a divine representative. If President Barack isn’t going to represent the hundreds of millions of Americans who did not vote for him, could Apostle Barack at least put in a little work on our behalf?

Not that I support Prez O or this wingnut author/”teacher”, but most of the 18 Amazon “book reviews” look and feel like op/eds parading as reviews. In plain English, those people don’t appear to have read the book. Not that I disagree with them, but it discredits our side because these aren’t credible reviews. Why give prog/soc/fascist/libs valid ammunition to derogate us for being deceitful?
(Yes, a few reference the book, but they read the “Look Inside” preview.)
If somebody wrote such comments about the book here at Tatler, they would be appropriate in this venue. If one wants to write a book review, please read it first. I know, I know: I won’t read it either, because I’d rather pound nails into my skull…and I won’t review it, either.
Amazon allows abusive reviews by people who clearly have never read a book, let alone the one being “reviewed”, on conservative titles.

Howard, you don’t have to buy the book or read the entire caricature. Go to the Amazon page for the book and click on the picture of the cover. You will get a pop-up that allows you to “Look Inside” and read as much as you can stand. It’s amateurishly formatted in Bible style and damned near unreadable…both in format and the pabulum printed therein. Go ahead and give it a go. If you can read everything offered for free and still want to unload >$15 for this howler, send Amazon your loot. I didn’t have to read more than a chapter of Dan Brown’s sophomoric prose to know that he’s a poor writer…I didn’t have to read two pages of this woman’s crap to recognize that she’s an unhinged lunatic.
FAMU has been most famous recently as having quite a few African-American professors who believe their own poop don’t stink, and that the band should be able to get away with hazing-manslaughter.
I’m quite pleased that my tax dollars go to keep you esconded in your little racist enclave in North Florida, keeping you the hell away from the rational people in the rest of the state.
Does this book deserve any publicity even if that publicity is in the form of ridicule? The book is self published via a vanity press company and the author probably paid more to get it into print than she will ever earn from it–unless all the free publicity from posts like this give her some sales.
Books like this were written by the dozen in praise of Kim Jong Il. North Korean authors strove to outdo one another in idolizing Dear Leader. I imagine that Professor Thompson would feel right at home there.
In 2008 when Hussein Obama was elected president my college age daughter and I would get into serious discussions regarding whether or not he was the antichrist. I told her no because too many people were able to see through his thin veneer and rejected him and his transformational agenda. Now? Not so sure.
If he isn’t, he’s the closest thing I’ve seen in my lifetime. And I’m not even religious.
Antichrist will have to be accepted by the Jews (who’ve already rejected the Christ) as their Messiah – that’s the whole point of his coming. Given that, it is highly unlikely they will accept a non-Jew. However, given that this time period will run concurrent with the great deluding judgment from God, there’s no telling but I still seriously doubt Antichrist will be a Gentile.
