Minutes ago, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton answered a singular question about the new emails showing that the Obama administration knew that the Benghazi assault was a terrorist attack two hours after it began. Clinton once again said that “No one wants to get to the bottom of what happened more than I do,” before touting her “independent review board” and its progress in investigating the attack. That board will not report any of its findings prior to the election, and it is operating under the secretary’s control. The State Department has not even released the names of the board members. As Clinton described the board’s work, she said that it is reviewing every piece of evidence, and not “cherry picking” pieces here and there. As she said the words “cherry picking,” Clinton nervously grinned and chuckled.
The White House, meanwhile, is downplaying the import of the emails that Reuters and other media outlets obtained late Tuesday. Despite the fact that the emails show clearly that knowledge of Ansar al-Sharia’s claim to have launched the attack reached the highest levels of the government, the White House is insisting that that was but one piece of information obtained that night.
The emails reached the very top of the Obama administration. The redacted addresses show that they went to the secretary of state’s top aides, and to the president’s White House Situation Room. That room is capable of accepting and displaying real time video feeds from military aircraft and personnel around the world in real time. CBS has previously reported that not only was there a Predator drone monitoring the battle as it played out, but that there were multiple reconnaissance aircraft on the scene. Any Predators on the scene were probably armed with Hellfire missiles, as Predators have been used in the Libya conflict and around the Middle East to eliminate terrorist leaders and suspects as the opportunities to do so have arisen. Additionally, there were AC-130 gunships and other military assets within reasonable striking distance, but none were ordered in to relieve the besieged consulate. So far there is no indication that a fire order was ever given for the Predator(s). Fox reported Tuesday that the attackers used accurate mortar fire to support their infantry assault of the compound, indicating a high level of organization, scouting and other pre-planning and pre-positioning prior to the attack.
The Obama administration has floated a claim that it ordered no relief in because it did not have the permission of the Libyan government to send aircraft to the scene. The Libyan government, such as it is in the post-Gaddafi chaos, has said that it did grant permission to enter its airspace. Then there is the matter of the recon aircraft which were reportedly already on the scene.
The Obama administration did not seek permission when it launched the 2010 SEAL mission that eliminated Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

In addition to the grin, Clinton insisted that “we are holding ourselves accountable” for Benghazi. Clearly, she and the White House are not doing that. They blamed a movie when the earliest evidence pointed in the direction of terrorism. Clinton is in control of the “independent” board. That is not accountability. It is furthering a cover-up.
More: Clinton also says in the clip that a Facebook posting by the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia is not enough evidence to rule Benghazi a terrorist attack. But as someone noted on Twitter, Clinton et based their version of the attack on an obscure YouTube movie. Why does a YouTube movie merit more attention than what the terrorists are claiming, as the attack is ongoing, on their social media?

I’m not a lawyer, but there is a legal concept of what a person in a position of responsibility SHOULD HAVE KNOWN.
Obama should have made sure that his minions would always inform him, without delay, everything they knew about any attacks on US diplomatic personnel and facilities.
At best, this is gross dereliction of duty.
On the other hand, if Obama is too mentally impaired (via drugs, HIV-related dementia, or inborn stupidity) even to comprehend what was taking place in Benghazi, then we have quite a different problem on our hands. Notice that there has not been any mention of the blind sheik since the murder. This theory provides a rationale for why there was no interference, and also why the drone was overhead – it was there to monitor the transaction. The administration was watching and waiting for a ‘civilized’ kidnaping with a ‘civilized’ request for ransom. It did not expect nor was it prepared for an attack.
However, every theory raises questions. It was Morsi who had asked for the return of the blind sheik. So how/why did Ansar al Sharia in Libya get the job? Maybe to disguise the fact that the initiative really came from Egypt. That’s problematic.
But if that is the way it went, then it seems possible that Al Qaeda wanted to show Morsi that it was in control and not the Muslim Brotherhood. The MB tries to look cooperative; Al Qaeda wants to look tough. So Al Qaeda went gangbusters, tortured, raped and killed the ambassador and burned the consulate – all to show Morsi, the US and Obama who is in charge.
But even this theory does not explain how Obama could so callously go off to Las Vegas for a fund raiser the next day.
Of course, there is this other story — that Obama was responsible for Stevens being in Benghazi on 11 SEP. Steves was sent to negotiate for the return of weapons with the very people who ended up killing him. This doesn’t contradict the kidnaping theory. In fact, it complements it. It provides the means by which Stevens was guaranteed to be in a position to be kidnaped. It explains how Ansar al Sharia knew where Stevens would be – and when.

I might add that the “kidnapping” plot would also explain why (1)the drone [No- I don't believe it was an unarmed surveillance only drone] didn’t fire on the attackers and (2) it wouldn’t bode well for the conspirators to kill the co-conspirators or (3)why assets weren’t brought in from the Mediterranean fleet or Sigonella [45 minutes or less from Benghazi].

Four personnel assigned to support the U.S. Government Mission in Libya were killed on September 11, 2012, in Benghazi, Libya. Pursuant to Section 301 of the Omnibus Diplomatic Security and Antiterrorism Act of 1986, as amended (22 U.S.C. 4831 et seq.), the Secretary of State has determined that this attack involved loss of life that was at or related to a U.S. mission abroad. Therefore, the Secretary has convened an Accountability Review Board to examine the facts and the circumstances of the attacks and to report such findings and recommendations as it deems appropriate.
The Secretary has appointed Thomas R. Pickering, a retired U.S. Ambassador, as Chair of the Board. He will be assisted by Admiral Michael G. Mullen, Ms. Catherine Bertini, Mr. Richard J. Shinnick, and Mr. Hugh J. Turner III, and the Executive Secretary to the Board, Uzra Zeya. They bring to their deliberations distinguished backgrounds in government service. If you are contacted for an interview with the board, I ask you to give them your full and prompt cooperation.
The Board will submit its conclusions and recommendations to Secretary Clinton within 60 days of its first meeting, unless the chair determines a need for additional time. Appropriate action will be taken and reports submitted to Congress on any recommendations made by the board.
Anyone with information relevant to the Board’s examination of these incidents should contact the board promptly at (202) 647-6246 or send a fax to the board at (202) 647-6640. This notice shall also be published in the Federal Register.
Convening a board is the official process to investigate such incidents, as created by an act of Congress. She did not tell us the whole truth, though, about covering up what the call was about, and that should would not take action to save lives in real time, but would aid and abet all aspects of a terrorist incident that detract from Obama’s political future (and her’s) and turn foreign policy over to Axelrod and Plouffe, and the campaign staff.
Worst than that is that Obama took of to do some campaigning the day after this incident.

So let me get this straight, Ansar al-Sharia claims they were behind terrorist attack, we know they were, so why haven’t we struck a blow yet on them? Could it be our commander and chief is dithering? I know what Bibi would have done or should I say already have done. We need a strong leader who will let the world know that we will not take a terrorist hit without immediate consequences.
The idea that we just left four Americans to die, to DIE, without lifting a finger to really help them just sickens me. I kind of want to believe that if I were overseas and got into trouble, my government would try and rescue me under similar circumstances. But the thought that both the State Department and the White House just let these people twist in the wind while watching this unfold on a video in REAL TIME is simply criminal. Obama and his minions will have to answer for this some day. Our government owes it to the families of the dead to find out what happened and when and, if possible, prevent it from happening again. It’s the least our own government can do for us.

It has been something to watch her style of diplomacy over the last 3+ years. She spends most of her time jetting about. When she touches down we get disasters like the “Arab Spring” where she Carters out and throws an ally like Mubarak under the truck. Yet she had nothing supportive to say about the greens in Iran. Poland lost its missile shield. Israel is isolated. Putin and Castro both endorse her superior. The media fawns all over her as a great diplomat. Maybe that is finally over now.

If they’d had the inclination to react in a timely way, their unfamiliarity with their own jobs would have caused additional problems.

Secretary Clinton says “I [she] is holding myself [herself] accountable to the American people.” Well, last I checked, we do not have a monarchy. The American people have members of Congress our Constitution tasks with the responsibility of holding members of the executive branch accountable for their failures.
We must vote to make sure we have a Congress that will fulfill that responsibility in the coming year.
As I just posted in the earlier Benghazi thread, Ansar al-Shariah’s statement was translated and discussed online back on the 12th of September. This is not news. You can find some information about it here:

Whatever that “smoking gun” email claims, that group was not exactly “claiming responsibility”, not by a long stretch. And the statement specifically cites a popular uprising in response to the much-discussed rubbish video. So anyone who had access to the FULL statement (like, say, maybe the state department or the CIA or the whitehouse) won’t have been drawing the same conclusions as whoever wrote those emails.
This isn’t your October surprise. Sadly, the media’s been woeful at pointing this out.
Well, again, if they didn’t know for sure then they shouldn’t have said anything. Instead, their first priority was pacifying the Muslims by blaming something “we” did to insult Islam. It was a knee-jerk reaction based on their long-standing worldview: that America causes terrorism by doing things Muslims don’t like, and that the solution to this is to apologize every time Muslims say “boo.” Tells me all I need to know about Clinton as a diplomat and Obama as a President.
If anything about this situation could be considered good news, it’s that both Obama’s and Clinton’s political careers are kaput.
It appears that Hillary is letting out a nervous titter – in other words, she’s lying so bad to the audience that she starts giggling. Something you’d see a little kid do when busted in an obvious lie. This is how little she thinks of all of us – and the dead ambassador/guards.
Also a sign of significant emotional pressure…perhaps the stress of possibly going down with Obama is getting to her. Bill has retained ‘several’ heavy-hitting DC insider legal eagles…just in case. That in itself tells me volumes; they are scared to death how far and how big this scandal will be.

No word from the Libyan Gov’t investigation four months on. Also, this ambassador was appointed in Nov. 2011 and replaced one who was assigned on Oct. 16, 2011, 4 days before Gaddafi was killed, that guy left a few weeks later for reasons unknown.

It’s looking as though Obama went to sleep as real time information and video was streaming in about Americans under an hours long attack, while we had assets an hour away, then got up the next day and went to Vegas. While it is true that we would have properly required the assent of the Libyan government (right) to conduct a military response, the subsequent cover-up, denial and blatant effort to simply evaporate the story in the face of the Obama campaign is a treasonous act that makes Watergate look like child’s play. The gulf in media response to this with uber-Leftist Obama in office, as opposed to a conservative, is awe inspiring. Were this a Republican president, it would be the biggest story with the highest media coverage for a single event since 9/11, and I have no doubt several demands for impeachment proceedings would have already come to pass.
Society is so conditioned to what really is a form of propaganda machine in our country that the lack of mainstream “coverage”, which is hardly a valid term any more, might actually be enough to brush aside this entire despicable dereliction to duty, this political sacrificing of American lives that was made so as not to endanger the Campaign with an actual judgement call that could not be based upon weeks of polling and propaganda build up to assure it would reflect favorably upon our dear leader. The very fact that we are having to piece this together largely by ourselves indicates that objective journalism is not only dead, it exists as the undead zombie that will do all in it’s power to push this man across the finish line for a second time, and in turn to once and for all extinguish what for them is the abominable myth of American exceptionalism and greatness in exchange for their own omniscience and totalitarian misery.

Well, Madam Secretary, neither is what was posted on YouTube, such as the movie trailer which ALLEGEDLY started this entire foreign policy debacle!!!! The post from the terrorist organization wasn’t the only evidence that you had. The e-mails that were received prior to the attack, the information that you received from other diplomats in the area, the attack on the British Ambassador, the pleas from Ambassador Stevens, the prior attacks including the placement and detonation of an IED at this consulate a week prior to the attack, the information from the US area security specialist and so many others all pointed to a potential for a terrorist act.
Yes, Madame Secretary, in and of itself the Facebook post doesn’t prove anything, but you had a lot of other evidence that it was and you and the President failed to connect the dots.
Do a little research on Thomas Pickering… on the board of The American-Iranian Council, took pro-Palestinian/anti-Israeli stances while ambassador to Israel in 1988…

What Hillary was doing is called “whistling past the graveyard”. She has NO defense, NO words that can explain the utter failure of her department, and her boss’s administration, for their incompetent negligence & complicity in the deaths of American citizens. I will cut her just a little slack though, ONLY in this regard: at the moment the Obama Adm. became aware that this was an organized terrorist attack, it became a MILITARY matter, NOT a State Dept. one– thus the Secretary of Defense (Panetta) is responsible for the lack of response to the desperate pleas from the Navy SEALS for backup. She knows her time is short as Secretary of State, as her boss is about to be kicked to the curb on Nov 6, thus the nervous laughter on her part.
