“My fellow Americans,
“We gather here this evening to engage in a conversation about the future of our great republic, a nation that our 40th president, Ronald Reagan, reminded us was, ‘the last great hope for man on Earth.’
“That statement still rings true today, because of the bravery of another generation of Americans who dare carry the torch of freedom into the dark against the ever-present threat of creeping tyranny and oppression.
“Tonight, before embarking on this conversation, we pause to remember the life of Border Patrol agent Nicolas Ivie, killed tragically Monday morning in the line of duty near Bisbee, Arizona.
“May God usher his soul home, and comfort his family and friends in this time of loss.
“Tragically, Agent Ivie is just the latest fatality resulting from the failed domestic policies of this administration, which encourages the criminality of illegal immigration, and in so doing, cheapens those who respect the laws of this republic.
“It bears noting that Agent Ivie was stationed at the newly dedicated Brian Terry Border Patrol Station in Bisbee, AZ. Agent Terry, as we all know, was gunned down in the line of duty by another group of cartel gunmen, who used just two of thousands of weapons provided to drug cartels by this administration in a criminal gun-walking operation that has led to the tragic murders of at least 300 Mexican citizens as well, including the 14 teenagers murdered as revealed recently by Univision.
As the son of a Mexic0-born father, I say to you, “Lo sentimos por su pérdida. We are sorry for your loss.
“Mr. Obama continues to refuse to discipline Attorney General Holder for this gun-walking plot known as Operation Fast and Furious, whose Department of Justice is ultimately responsible for these deaths. Nor has Mr. Obama sought to appoint an independent prosecutor to investigate the thousands of felony violations of the Arms Export Control Act, the Kingpin Act, and other federal and international laws broken on his watch, by his administration.
“We must also remember the lives of our ambassador to Libya, Chris Stevens, diplomat Sean Smith, and the two former Navy SEALs who were killed as they attempted to provide aide to the ambassador in a 9/11 terrorist attack on our consulate in Benghazi, an attack that President Obama literally chose to sleep through.

Once and for all, I would like it if all campaign events, debates, conventions, etc. would drop the excessive pining after the great leaders of yesteryear. Reagan is not running this time. Clinton is not running. FDR, Coolidge, JFK are not running. Keep focused on the current rabbit pack of corrupt, venal, narcissists and cut the bait-’n-switch attempts.
If Clinton and Kennedy were great leaders of yesteryear lest it be deflowering the interns, I’m Spider Man.
If FDR would have been a great leader, rather than a major fascistic statist, we wouldn’t have half the problems we do today.
If he could follow up with wave after wave of hard hitting facts detailing the failures of this president in creating jobs and dealing with the deficit, entitlement reform, energy and national security, I think Obama would crumble.
“Mr. Obama, get out of our way.” No, Ronald Reagan is not running this time. Can’t complain about the echo in this line of “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” though. Good one, Bob!
Right on. You should be writing for him. If the American people are exposed to actual facts, this presidency is toast. Will Romney have the stones? I hope so. An opening like this may help diffuse some of the inherent advantage accruing to Obama from the left wing PBS moderator. A statement like this could perhaps preempt much of the balance of the debate.
Masterful! Lay the groundwork before any “questions from the moderator.”
Geez, I would love to hear Romney speak this way!
. . . though I realize the media pundits would slam him for using an agent’s death for political purposes. (One wonders if Obama has CAUSED deaths for political purposes.)
BULLSHIT. Do you forget when Romney asked for all illegals to “self deport”? Sigh….Sadly Mitt is too full of himself to be this sly. The debates will provide many great laughable moments for both sides. Stay tuned.
America is not “the last great hope for mankind”, indeed we are the instrument of its destruction.Try not to be so full of yourself. Sometimes humility is the more noble trait.
Look around. If America is not “the last great hope for mankind”, who is? Also, try not to be so full of yourself – pontificating about humility is the ultimate irony.
And the ultimate in false piety. The sanctimony from that crap above waffles through my screen.
Try not to be so full of bull excrement.
And please do not forget that these gun running operations started long before Fast and Furious.

It is shameful that one of ours died, but that pales in comparison to the scope of murder going on across the border in Mexico.
When the gunwalking program went sour, Bush discontinued it. Fast and Furious was a Dem-led disaster from the get-go, and O’Bama and his cronies lie about it. By the way, if everything the Bush administration did was evil, why does O’Bama imitate and/or continue and/or escalate (drones) these policies, albeit poorly?
There is a key difference between F&F and Wide Receiver, WR, what went before; it is the difference between major felonies and inept law enforcement. The axiom of any police effort is that weapons which are permitted to fall into the possession of criminals, are interdicted, and arrests are made before the weapons can be used in crimes. Police may not become accessories to gun crimes. Every cop knows this hard limit.
Mr. Owens has written that, per treaty, and law, WR was conducted in coordination with the Mexican government, and other US departments. Apparently F&F was not. In WR there was an effort to trace the weapons across the border, and capture them and the gun runners. In F&F, there was none, even after screaming sessions between our cops and DoJ attorneys, who ordered them to allow the car to drive into a foreign nation, Mexico, with no hope of stopping the use of their cargo, in mass murder. US employees aided and abetted, the scope of murder going on across the border in Mexico.
A number of executives within the government have taken the Fifth, or demanded immunity for their testimony about F&F, after years of foot dragging.
There are big differences. DoJ needs a wire broom.
DAYUM – but I would have taken a paragraph or three on specifics of failure economically, and his solutions – in bullet point format.
On topic – but Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot:
Each candidate TALKED about a “Fair” or flat tax – and then it’s always in the dustbin.
That alone would stop so much of the Washington shenanigans.
Reforming SS & Medicade to private accounts, secured by gov’t as to their being UNTOUCHABLE and with matching funds – in 30 years our entitlement problem would be a bad memory of history.
Get RID of the Dept of Ed and go to vouchers and put choice in the hands of the parents and competition on the schools for students.
The ATF needs to just be abolished. I’m not blaming the rank and file – though I know some here and elsewhere have sincere grievences with those folk – but rather a culture of arrogance, secrecy, and a complete lack of transparent oversight.
And any president would be my hero if he appointed someone to go through all the federal laws that are out of date, misused, and conflicting and just delete them.
Just my wish list Bob. (posting on your site too – hope you don’t mind)
