It happens all the time in talk radio: a caller will say that he is a lifelong Republican, and will recall fondly how he voted for Ronald Reagan. Then he says that today’s Republicans have gone too far, and for the first time ever he is voting for a Democrat! These callers are nearly always lying. If you look them up, you likely will find that they are Democratic Party precinct chairmen.
The Obama campaign is trying to perpetrate the same deception. It has just released a video called Republican Women For Obama, which features four or five women who claim to be Republicans, or to have been Republicans until recently. But, of course, they are appalled by Mitt Romney–it is hard to say why, apart from a couple of discreet references to abortion, but did they really just now figure out that the Republican Party is pro-life? The ad is surprisingly ineffective, but it is also dishonest. At least one of the women who pose as “Republican women for Obama” is a long-time Democrat.
Her name is Maria Ciano, and BuzzFeed finds that she has been a registered Democrat in Colorado at least since 2006.
Ms. Ciano’s mother is also in the commercial. She too, claims to be a former Republican — except she lists as one of her favorites on her Facebook page, The Rachel Maddow Show.
How very Republican of her.
You have to wonder what they’re thinking when they try to pull something like this. Perhaps they take comfort in Mark Twain’s old adage, “A lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its shoes” and don’t worry about being exposed because no one will see it, or no one will really care.
Romney could easily make a commercial about people who actually voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and will vote Romney this time. There are likely to be millions of them, however, and would be very difficult to fit them all in camera frame.

Like all those employees of the various state Democrat Party offices back in 2008 that were Republicans but going to vote for Obama.

Romney is already running commercials in Florida that have various 2008 Obama voters saying that they will NOT vote for Obama this time.
I’d love to see if the Demos could shake up even 1 person in America who was a legitimate 2008 McCain voter, who is now going to vote for Obama.
