The island chain 300 miles off the coast of Argentina has two names. The United Kingdom, which controls them as a protectorate, and the rest of the world call those islands the Falklands. Argentina calls them the Malvinas. Argentina has never owned the islands. Islanders are 90% British, descendants of the original settlers, and support their relationship with the UK. The UK has controlled the Falklands since 1830, and fought a war over them against Argentina in 1982 to keep them.
But that didn’t stop President Barack Obama from attempting to use the Argentinian name for the islands. And he even got that badly wrong.
President Obama erred during a speech at the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia, when attempting to call the disputed archipelago by its Spanish name.
Instead of saying Malvinas, however, Mr Obama referred to the islands as the Maldives, a group of 26 atolls off that lie off the South coast of India.
It takes someone with a very limited understanding of geography to confuse the Maldives, a sovereign country near India, with the Malvinas, a political name attached to islands that are actually called the Falklands. For starters, the two island chains are in different oceans, more than 8,000 miles apart. The Falklands are in the south Atlantic; Maldives are in the Indian Ocean.
Of more importance, though, is Obama’s decision to wade into a sensitive issue between two of our allies in this way. The Falklands war was 30 years ago this month. The Argentine government has been ratcheting up anti-British rhetoric, demanding that the UK hand “Las Malvinas” over, and threatening to invade again. In his summit speech Obama claimed that the US is neutral, which was our official stance during the 1982 war and is now, but attempting to use the name “Malvinas,” and then bungling that, can be taken to suggest that he isn’t so neutral and would side with Argentina against the British.
The Telegraph calls this an “uncharacteristic” error, but this isn’t the first time Barack Obama has betrayed his geographical ignorance and political boneheadedness. In a recent speech in Hawaii, the president thought he was in Asia despite being born in Hawaii. Hawaii, a volcanic island chain 4,000 miles east of Asia, is not part of Asia or any other continent. In November 2011, Obama said that he was disturbed when Iranians stormed the “English embassy” in Tehran, which was actually the British embassy. England is one of four nations, along with Scotland, and Wales, plus Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom. Calling it the “British embassy” would have been accurate; calling it the “English embassy” was not.
Besides all of that, Obama made the “Maldives” remark at the Summit of the Americas, a summit which has been full of outrages, errors and scandal. In this summit we’ve had the Secret Service call girl scandal and pics of our secretary of state boozing it up have hit the web. The error was by no means “uncharacteristic.”
The Falklands gaffe is the most significant, though. In the mixed signals and inattention it betrays on the part of the President of the United States, it could lead to another war.
Update: In another “uncharacteristic” gaffe, in 2009 Barack Obama invented a language: “Austrian.” There is an Austrian school of economics, but the Austrian people speak German. I suppose we should be thankful that he didn’t confuse them with Australians.

I wonder how happy the rest of the world will be when Obama is defeated this November.
Unfortunately, a significant number of foreigners love “O” and any other American politician who steadfastly refuses to put America’s interests first.
I think a lot of foreign Heads of State will be relieved to see him go. However much they might even agree with his policies, no one wants to have to deal with such an oaf, such a boor, such an unsophisticate. There are standards, after all. He is clearly from the wrong side of the tracks. They have to grit their teeth every time they deal with his oafishness.
I suspect you are correct, but they will never say so publicly.
After all, he IS on the same team, doncha know.
Unlike England, Obama’s gift set of VHS tapes of all the Godzilla films was probably appreciated. And then there’s the new bicycle factory.
Let us not forget his stunning performance at the Queen’s birthday party.
Don’t know about the rest of the world but one thing I am certain of is that the US urban Blacks will RIOT and there will be blood on the streets when they see what they consider their power base and gravy train being taken away. Mark my words.
“the US urban Blacks will RIOT and there will be blood on the streets”
Yeah. Theirs.
Unfortunately, I think you are right about riots if Obama isn’t reelected. What they fail to realize is that he is only half black and shares almost no experience, except racial quotos,, with them.
FWIW, Spaniards in general and the Spanish media absolutely adore the Big O, just like they did Bill Clinton, any non-Republican for that matter. Here, they also refer to the Falklands as the Malvinas and support the Argentine claim on the islands. Just as they claim Gibraltor belongs to Spain and not to the people who live there. Yet they are oh so indignant when Morocco suggests that the North African enclaves of Melilla and Ceuta should revert to Morocco.
Cameron gets his just reward, that is all.
Yep Cameron’s and the UK Lame Stream EneMedias recent sycophantic, lick spittle moronic fawning over Obambi is really put in to perspective now isn’t it. Cameron allowed himself and the UK Govt to be used as a political ‘tool’ by the Obama Regime.
Prime Minister Cameron now sees what the Kenyan’s other BFFs see, just ask the Catholic Bishops and Cardinals, the US Military, the great “folks” at NASA, the original share holders of GM,BB and most recently Hilary Rosen.
People need to understand that We need to wait until the election is over so our Kenyan leader can do what he really wants to do with his real BFF Vladimir.
No surprises here. Obama hates British government. However they feel about him, he personally hates England due to how they treated his fraternal grandfather during British rule in Kenya.
Oh, do me a favour! Don’t give me that Mau-Mau nonsense again! The Mau-Mau were a Kikuyu organisation and most of their victims were indigenous Kenyans, who were non-Kikuyu (the Kikuyu being the biggest tribe in Kenya, which is a country in East Africa, which is part of a large land mass between the Atlantic Ocean, a considerable quantity of saline, fish-infested water, and the Indian Ocean, similarly salt-polluted and home to zillions of fish). I just added those details for the benefit of any readers whose names might happen to be Barack Hussain Obama.
You may know where Africa is but you are absolutely wrong about the Mau-Maus. They slaughtered hundreds of whites in Kenya during that time. They were the normal bloodthirsty savages in sub-Saharan Africa and things haven’t changed since then.
Yes, the Mau-Mau murdered many whites. That doesn’t alter my point. Most of their victims were indigenous Kenyans, who were non-Kikuyu. The Mau-Mau were exclusively Kikuyu. Obama’s non-Kikuyu grandfather is more likely to have been a victim of the Mau-Mau than a victim of any evil British, but that story doesn’t sell many many books in your sorry country, does it?
Actually you have no point, you spew gibberish. The Mau-Maus were savages among savages who murdered people who were trying to civilize them. One group of savages is pretty much the same as any other group of savages. That’s what they all were and that is what they are today. If anything they have grown more feral in the last 50 years.
You seem not to liek the USA much, just curious what language would you be speaking now if we hadn’t saved your sorry asses, German, Russian or Japanese? There is nothing more ungrateful than the recipients of charity.
Yes, but I bet he said the wrong name with his faux spanish/latino lilt.
obama is obviously the smartest in the room… full of libs
Why, of course Obama is smart! He graduated from the Ivy League! Don’t you know that? But then, so did George Bush (both of them), John Kerry and a host of others. Could it be the Ivy League isn’t all it’s cracked up to be?
Come to think of it, the best president of my lifetime (and one of the best ever) graduated from Eureka College. Hmmmm.
Ivy League education isn’t all that its cracked up to be, it’s mainly a socio-economic staus symbol than anything else. Its like the guy still driving that Hummer despite $4.00 a gallon gas, conspicuous consumption at its finest but only in education. The onther side of that is the “good ol’ boys college country club” connections that it is supposed to foster.
The ivy league is about connections, not education. The connections are obvious and should not be ignored. This is why Bush would side with Obama before Sarah.
The only good news in all of this is that Britain has placed a lot more troops and aircraft on the Falklands, so I doubt Argentina would try another attack. Add to this the fact that the Argentinian Navy is a lot smaller and less capable than it was back in 1982, so there really wouldn’t be any way to isolate or blockade the Falklands, either. So the Argentinians may stamp their feet and scream a little, but the British will hold onto the islands.
Ok! Let’s do this again. Imagine if ole GWB had done this! Or even worse Sarah Palin! Ho hum says the msm, we know what he really meant and it is not a gaffe. It also does not show his true intelligence because the TPOTUS was wrong! Once he gets back from the 57th state he will address this matter with the medical corpse!
It’s “The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”. Your syntax made it appear that GB = UK. Not true. GB is England, Scotland and Wales.
Right – I’ve cleaned up the syntax a bit.
Barack Hussein Gabacho, in spite of himself.
Give him some slack – he’s only half gabacho.
I fear Obama’s sympathy is with Argentina. He certainly has no respect for the British who he appears to see as colonialists and oppressors. We were very grateful for the AIM-9L sidewinders that Ronald Reagan released to the Fleet Air Arm in the weeks prior to the conflict just as we also noted that France supplied Exocet and Super Etendard to Argentina. It is unlikely that there will be another war but not clear what Britain would be able to do now if there was.
FerFal, an Argentinian expat in Ireland, has this to say about the possibility of a new war:
There really isnt a chance in hell that Argentina will go to war. They just can’t, its impossible. Chavez talks a lot but he’s not stupid nor is he suicidal.
First of all there’s no military force. At all. The Kirchners themselves made it their policy to completely destroy the Argentine military as their political stance.
To understand this you have to understand where the Kirchners come from. In their youth they aligned with an organization called the “Montoneros”. These where supposed to be left leaning peronists. They were so much to the left that not even Peron liked them. During the Argentine “Dirty War” the ruling Junta committed crimes against humanity though they claimed to be fighting local communist terrorists, groups like the Montoneros. Where does the truth lie? Somewhere in between. Its true that innocent people got killed by the Dictatorship just as its true that these Montoneros and other terrorists groups murdered innocent people themselves and even bombed schools.
When the Kirchners took power it was time for payback, the Montoneros now had the power (in fact many known terrorists became government officials) and they dismantled, disarticulated and very much destroyed the Argentina’s already weakened military.
Argentina hasn’t bought a fighter plane since before the war, nor has it bought any serious weaponry and most of the local military machinery got sold to Brazil long ago. Today there’s even a lack of properly kept small arms, ammo and other elemental supplies. Argentina couldn’t fight a war against Lady Gaga´s dance squad, let alone the UK.
Cristina Kirchner is using this as a way of distracting people from the much more serious local problems such as rampant crime, inflation and corruption. I dare say that given the fact that media such as the BBC reacted as if another war was coming David Cameron was likewise using it both to appeal to people’s patriotism to regain some support and as a smoke curtain to cover more real and urgent problems like the local economy.
FerFAL
d @ 5: obama is obviously the smartest in the room… full of libs
LOL
Of course they would all vote for him, especially as long as he’s POTUS, but of course none of them would actually mean it since each and every one of them would think that he/she/it was the fairest of them all.
Still, that’s a great line, thanks, I’ll see if I can use it and cause a leftoid head to explode.
I think we had a clue to Obama’s lack of grasp of geography when he bragged he had campaigned in 57 states and had one more to go.
Just what I was thinking.
Why is everyone blaming Obama when it was the idiot programming the teleprompter that made the mistake. Sure Obama hates the UK and was clearly too, let’s be nice and call it “geographically challenged,” to catch the mistake, but everyone knows the man can speak coherently without someone putting words in his mouth.
Are you kidding? He is a mush-mouthed idiot off the teleprompter. He is just barely literate and mis-pronounced Malvinas. He was trying to be clever and failed.
The great thing about Australian is that it is so much easier for Americans to learn. Day=Die, Mate=Mite.
Beeya!
In Aussie slang, Obama should go drink with the flies.
The only interest the Argentinian govt has in the Falklands is to use it as a distraction when things go south in the country. They whip the people up into a frenzy over some imagined slight the British have done to them so that the pitchforks and ropes dont show up on the steps of the presidential palace.
Obama’s position on the matter can be understood by listening to the hate-mongering Rev. Wright. He spews nothing but hate for white/european culture. Anyone who thinks Obama doesnt feel the same in his heart is sadly mistaken. This is a very clear indicator of that.
No reasonable case can be made that argentina has any kind of claim on the Falklands, or that the British acquired them at anyone’s expense or by crooked means. The islands were uninhabited and unclaimed by anyone when the British discovered them. Yet, obama sides with the argentinians. Who coulda guessed?
Hmmm. You misspoke. Let me fix that for you:
Cartagena, Colombia. Hmm. Coulda’ been the lad doin’ some BLOW you know..
No, no, no. You got that all wrong!
The two island chains are in different neighborhoods, separated by 57 states.
And I know it’s so because Obama says so.
Oblunder has caught Biden foot-in-mouth disease. With one word, he insulted everyone. What a fool, but the uninformed, as usual, won’t hear a word. How embarrassed I am that this Ship of Fools represents me and my country.
Is Obama mentally defective?
Ya think?
–delenda est?”
“It takes someone with a very limited understanding of geography to confuse the Maldives…with the Malvinas…, the two island chains are in different oceans, more than 8,000 miles apart.”
Yes, but they are linked by the Intercontinental Railroad, don’tcha know?
It happens, he was temporarily distracted by a Brazilian hooker…
When is a gaffe not a gaffe? When Obama mutters it.
I’m convinced all the supposed “gaffes” this clown spits out are not gaffes at all. They are done completely on purpose. He knows he won’t be called on anything by the MSM. His gaffes are mainly distractions to make his enemies (us) get our panties in a wad. And it works.
“57 states”, “my muslim faith”, “Navy corpse man”, Austrian language, the Queen of England music flub, Hawaii’s in Asia, 10,000 people died in Kansas, signs the wrong year in guest book at Westminster Abbey, etc. The list is legion.
I know it’s hard, but if we’d just ignore him and stop spilling all these pixels over him he will go away.
Axelrod (reading paper): Hm, says here that you said “Maldives” instead of “Malvinas” and that some consider it some sort of gaffe.
Obama (snickering): Those stupid clingers. Uhhh, they have no smarts at all. “Gaffe” *snicker*
Axelrod: I know…I know.
Obama: What do long-necked animals have to do with those islands? They don’t even live there. Everyone knows they come from zoos. I saw them in Pittsburgh once. Don’t they know ANYTHING?
Well played, sir! You captured the cynical, intentional use of incorrect terms, AND the mal-educated idiocy all in one!
Also the $50k for a tonsillectomy.
So the most brilliant President America has ever had adds yet another blooper to his idiotic outpourings. The NONE EXISTENT “Malvinas’ are the ‘Maldives are they Obambi? Austrians speak ‘Austrian”(at least he didn’t say Australian LOL), the US has 57 States and he has visited them all and the Navy has Corpsemen.
But of course the Lame Stream EneMedia will never ever tell you when he does this and will run interference for him and Left Wing moonbats will”understand’ why the Messiah makes so many f*ck ups.
But ask yourself this question ‘What would we be hearing from the MSM and moonbats if Bush had done this?’
Whoa, dude, separated at birth much?
I prefer “like minds think the same’. But whichever way you cut it Obambi is a DOOFUS.
Getting the wrong island chain was the gaffee. However, he didn’t error in what he meant. He was following the standard U.S. geographic names policy by using both Malvinas and Falklands. http://www.geographictravels.com/2012/04/obama-bad-at-geography-good-at.html
Don’t knock it.
A nice little war is extremely high on the contingency action list in the unlikely circumstance that Obama’s reelection isn’t going as well as planned.
Nothing rallies the suckahs like a little shoot-em-up with a bunch of expendable red-staters who couldn’t cut it in a good college serving as convenient heartstring pullers.
As usual the “smartest man ever to be President” commits a couple of fresh geographic wailers and you can barely hear the crickets from the poodle section of the MSM. However in the case of the Falklands I doubt if it matters much. Great Britain (let’s call it that) is so decrepit and in such a state of free-fall moral decline that a troop of Argentine Boy Scouts could show up at Port Stanley and take the place over without a shot.
I doubt if Cameron’s government could work up an angry press release much less mobilize a military force to hold the islands. If Argentina wait a few years the British government will just give them the Falklands along with an apology for the war.
Again shows how Ivy league schools teach nothing—except social justice and earth day
let Obama watch Sportscenter. NBA is his level.
Excet the lapsus ( Maldives instead of malvinas ) BHO proves again and again that he prefers to stand with anyone either southerner or mideasterner AGAINST any western nation. When Great Britain slapped in the face the fascist argentinian generals it was a wonderful page of western right setting back the clock to where it belongs and a wonderful affirmation of history and human will against the pretense of geography and the determinists either fascist or marxist .Now we see again that confrontation in the mideast where the fascist muslims are trying and succeeeding to impose by violence their determinist creed. And not strangely at all the international left do welcome this upheaval as a welcomed move.So the fight is back to square one , the demise of the nazism, then the demise of the communism was not enough to suppress in the western part of the world the perverse attraction towards the most regressive system now threatening the west , fundamentalist islam , which can counts on Obama as a useful idiot , a incredibly grotesque character.Pleas quick him out once for all.
Another day, another example of ignorance and base stupidity by the teleprompter in chief.
2012 ABO…
Obambi HATES the UK that was obvious from the ‘get go’. His first action on entering the WH was to tell his Aides to ‘Get that Bastards bust outta here’ referring of course the the Sir Winston Churchill bust gifted to the USA ,not Obambi, by the UK Govt. He then insulted the Queen by allowing his wife to lay hands on her and giving her a gift of HIS speeches on an iPod and giving the UK PM a gift of crap DVD’s with the WRONG regional coding.
This man is the son of a Kenyan Muslim father, with connections to Kenyan TERRORISM, and the adopted son of a Muslim Indonesian.Where are his Barry Soetero/ Barrack Obama name change Document BTW and is that why his school and College Records are so carefully hidden, along with so many OTHER Documents by this Man with no history, as he most likely went there as Barry Soetero FOREIGN STUDENT. Who was raised and schooled as a devout Mosque going Muslim, in his FORMATIVE in Indonesia.
So the question is not ‘Does DOOFUS Obambi hate the UK?’ the real question should be ‘How far will the US people allow Obambi’s hatred of the UK go”
Can you imagine the msm if it was Sarah Palin instead of Obama….?
Saluti from Italy
Obama fits right in right where he is – failure among failure. We could’ve sent someone from a pimp convention with much the same effect in real terms. I’m surprised he didn’t express solidarity cuz he’s from the D. of Columbia.
Maldives,Malvinas…220,221.
50, 57 states, makes no matter to Barry Obongo, any and all criticism no matter how valid makes you a racist.
One of Obama’s lawyers apparently said recently that Obama’s birth certificate is “irrelevant” to his eligibility to be POTUS. Well then … it must be so. I say that the Falklands are the Maldives, and the fact that the island is populated by a British majority is irrelevant to the fact that it belongs to Argentina. Obama is getting very desperate …. … but he’s managed to yet again, cause a distraction and further stoking of bitterness and resentment that he’s our POTUS, with authority of our nation.
The may be merit to the notion that a not too distant UK government…perhaps some eurocrats in Brussels will gift the Falklands to Argentina….
At the conclusion of the unpleasantness of 1982….the RAF deployed a coupla F4 Phantoms at Stanley….now replaced by 4 much more capable Typhoons….
In 1982 Argentina deployed a mass of poorly trained conscripts and the British professional volunteer army once ashore easilly overwhelmed them.
Currently the British military has atrophied but so has the Argentine military.
However the Brits are battled hardened veterans infantry and aircrew….thnaks to involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Falklands like Syria’s Krak de Chevalier will only fall to deceit andf defeatism….not direct attack.
Imagine if President Bush had done this? Letterman and Maher would not have had enough time to tell all their jokes about a dumb conservative. I have posted over on The Diplomad 2.0 about the disaster that is Obama’s policy in Latin America and at the Summit. The Secret Service scandal has been a godsend as it has diverted public attention from how badly this President did at the Summit.
Just can’t wait for his campaign to get rolling in states 52 thru 57!
Whose side will Obambi take if the Argentinian Navy takes his lead and travels to the Indian Ocean to take over the Maldives? Mightn’t they be justified in asking the Potus for assistance in lending them the US Fleet? The Maldives might be alot more valuable than the Falklands.
When I studied geography in grade school I always said “Whose going to ever need this stuff?” Now I know
I understand India is thinking of petitioning the East India Company to make a come back. Bit of a cock up on the organization front.
Obamao is “the smartest man ever to occupy the White House” according to parrot Michael Beschloss. My god, based on the evidence, your country in deep sh!t.
At least he didn’t say, “Ich Ben Ein Hotdog!” as another idiot liberal POTUS did.
Wondering how many Harvard Law graduates have removed their diplomas from
their office walls since BHO began his hilarious (shameful, uneducated) wailings during and since his run for the presidency?
You know what the saddest, if not scariest, part is? All the people Obama has surrounded himself with are as boorish and ignorant as he is.
So what else is new this jacka$$ can’t talk on any subject without his teleprompter
Affirmative action foreign policy. The inevitable result is putting a clever but unintelligent oaf in the White House.
Passed through for reasons of color and now in charge of our country.
The march of the morons continues.
Some people seem to accept the British version without realizing that there is another version. When the British first claimed ownership based on a British sea captain discovering the islands the Spanish challenged the Britsih to tell the world where the islands were. They were hundreds of miles off. Also: the Spanish were very legalistic and inserted clauses in treaties getting all European powers to acknowledge the islands were Spanish. Britain simply took the islands and took the people to Argentina, throwing them overboard. Most of them did not make it to land. Britain has always distorted history to support its imperial land grabs. The islands legally belong to Argentina.
Now who’s distorting history? You left out the part where the convicts sent there by Argentina mutinied and set up their own pirate base for a few years. Argentina abandoned that, other powers tried to stop the pirates (including the U.S.A. bombarding it), and finally the British threw out the pirates and set up a new settlement to stop them coming back.
So, no, Britain never threw out Argentina in the 19th century, the convicts/pirates had already done that. Britain had a formal claim at least as good as Spain’s, and the only Argentinian claim rested on the idea that, on rebelling against Spain, it had got Spain’s claim. Not only is that arrogant, not only does it suppose Spain had a better claim in the first place, but also it is the same as Argentina’s claim to Paraguay, that Argentina had stolen whatever Spain had claimed and never mind the wishes of anybody who lived there! None of these kinds of claim hold water, and when the original General Belgrano tried to enforce the claim on Paraguay he got a flea in his ear.
Surprise, surprise! Don’t think I’ve seen this “gaffe” in my daily paper—didn’t even see it in the Daily Telegraph this afternoon!
However, he’s not the first “gaffer”(N.B. This word has another meaning in British English, one that black Africans in South Africa should have noted!) On one occasion a White House official wrote to a Scottish newspaper and addressed it to “Edinburgh, ENGLAND”. Enough to have the fiery cross sent round the glens and the clans marching on Washington! And, Sassenach though I am, had Mr Obama dropped such a (Mac)Clanger in my hearing I would have been more than tempted to interrupt him with the exclmatiom “A’Thaoseach! Chan eil Dun Eidean bail’ nan t-Sasunn!”[Mr President! Edinburgh's not an English town!]
No, “gaffer” doesn’t have that meaning in British English at all. That’s what “kaffir” means, and that’s rare – it’s taken from African colonial usage. However, some Africans have occasionally taken offence on hearing British visitors referring to their leaders as “old gaffers”, and then misunderstanding it.
Suggest you have a good look at the following two dictionaries, viz. the Concise Oxford Dictionary, and the Readers’ Digest Word Power Dictionarg. The first lists the following: “Elderly rustic, old fellow; foreman of gang[contraction of godfather, by association with grandfather]“. The second gives “1.Brit. informal, an old man; 2.Brit. informal, a boss; 3. the chief electrician in a folm or television production unit. Origin: probably a contraction of godfather”.
Although that word is rarely heard these days, it was in use well into my own lifetime, and it seems odd that some intelligent African did not discern the similarity in sound between “kaffir” and “gaffer”, and the fact that the latter translated easily into the Afrikaans “baas”[boss].
Why suggest that I look at a dictionary? Doesn’t that support just what I was telling the person I was replying to?
As for the “seems odd”, it’s not about the African being intelligent but about his understandable lack of familiarity with that particular British term – so he heard it as something similar used in his part of Africa (I think, but I am not sure, it happened in Zambia).
Ah… looking back at what I was replying to, someone has altered it since then, taking out the faulty reference to the meaning of “kaffir” that I was pointing out was wrong. That makes my reply spuriously appear to be about the real meaning of “gaffer”; no wonder you thought I didn’t know it.
Maybe SNL can do a skit? “I can see the Maldives from my house”
I remember watching the Falklands War unfold on ABC back in 1982, and being the novice military expert (I was still 3 years from joining the AF), thinking that the Brits were completely justified in defending their territory…after all, they had pulled out of Rhodesia and pretty much abandoned the empire by that time. Now, 30 years later, we have boy wonder, who would have been about five years older than me at the time, chiming in, intending to call the Falklands the Malvinas (must be his anti-colonial Kenyan upbringing), and then to mislabel them the Maldives. This would be comical if it did not expose the ignorance of the malcontent in the White House. I never thought it possible, but I’m laughing and crying at the same time…if he gets four more years, we will live in far more interesting times than our parents and grandparents…
I strongly suggest you study history before continuing your biased report on the Malvinas/Falkland Islands which were argentine before the english threw them out by force, and have NOT been threatened in any way other than by international
political action. All of latin américa calls the islands ” Las Malvinas “
I do not recall Argentina ever having possession of the Falkland Islands and the British did not throw Argentinians off the islands, they kick them the hell off their islands to protect their subjects who inhabit the islands. What year was Argentina in control of the FALKLAND ISLANDS?
From the date the islands were discovered by the Caboto expedition until 1833, and from April 2 to June 14 1982.
Sorry to disappoint you, but that was Spain.
No. Argentina only asserted a claim after 1820, and only settled and controlled a penal colony there from 1828 for about two years until that mutinied and started operating as a pirate base. Britain never evicted Argentina; the pirates had already done that, and Britain evicted those.
There is no legitimate proof obama was born in Hawaii or any other part of the US. There is proof positive his birth certificate, social security card and his selective service cards are forged. Remember hew was in all 57 states in America. Somebody in Indonesia should have taught obama some geography and why is America dumping so much money into Kenya on the sly?
The article includes a mistake. Argentina, and before Argentina Spain, owned the islands UNTIL 1833, with industries and a governor called José luis Vernet.
Wrong. Spain only claimed the islands; other countries did too, and Britain actually had temporarily settled them in that period. Later, Argentina claimed them after 1820, but only settled them briefly with a penal colony that mutinied and drove out Argentina. After that, Britain cleared out the pirates and re-settled the islands to prevent a recurrence of piracy.
We should keep in mind that Hillary Clinton is our chief party person and she doesn’t object to have photos taken of her enjoyment.
Bush gaffes were a result of his limited intelligence…Obama’s gaffes are a trivial thoughts getting skewed in a complex, genius mind…sort lf like Einstein’s inability to tie his shoes…In other words…its expected of Obama to ellicit erroneous minutia from time to time….because his brilliance is engaged in other more important matters…where he makes no mistakes…
And of course…you can extrapolate from the Bush/Obama contrast….and surmise that conservatives as a whole “gaffe” out of stupidity…and liberals “gaffe” out of brilliance….Therefore….conservatives gaffes are highlighted and reported…liberal gaffes are not…In fact, a liberal gaffe could be construed as an asset because of the larger brilliance and intelligence it is associated with…while conservative gaffes are, of course, liabilities.
See how that works?
