Companies that advertised on Rush Limbaugh’s show, and pulled their ads under pressure from the left, seem to be learning a business lesson: Ya still gotta advertise. Carbonite’s stock tanked and the company went into a turtle shell. Sleep Train has begged Rush to take them back on, but Rush has reportedly said no.
In an email to Sleep Train President Dale Carlsen (obtained by The Blaze), a representative of the show says that Limbaugh personally considered the company’s request, but denied it considering its public comments following the controversy.
“Thank you for your requests last week and this week to restart your voiced endorsement in local markets of The Rush Limbaugh Show,” the email begins. “Rush received your requests personally.”
“Unfortunately, your public comments were not well received by our audience, and did not accurately portray either Rush Limbaugh’s character or the intent of his remarks. Thus, we regret to inform you that Rush will be unable to endorse Sleep Train in the future.
“Rush appreciates your long friendship and your past support, and we wish you good luck in the future.”
Sleep Train had been a Limbaugh sponsor for 25 years. They practically built their business on Rush’s massive and affluent audience (look at the demos and drop your idiotic ideology, Alexandra Petri — Rush’s audience is among the most coveted in America). The companies that dropped Rush may have learned a valuable lesson over the last week: The liberals behind the anti-Limbaugh boycott don’t care about their business. They only care about destroying Rush. If his advertisers lose out too, that’s none of their concern. That attitude popped up when liberals tried to get the apolitical Kim Komando show to drop Carbonite, because she’s a woman and Carbonite was at that time still a Rush advertiser. Komando politely showed the liberals the back of her hand. Had she acquiesced, she would have been hurt, and Carbonite would have been hurt. And the liberals wouldn’t have cared. Their sweet, sweet Soros money insulates them from the realities of business and advertising.
The boycott may also hurt local radio stations that depend on Rush to keep them afloat. Rush Limbaugh single-handedly saved AM radio when he went national. His show is, for most of the local stations that run him, the largest revenue stream they have by far. Take that away and there is no replacement: Jobs will be lost. Will the leftist progs care about that?
