I happened to be looking up something else today, and came across a PJM article of mine from just about two years ago, called “Obama’s Stage Magic“.
Here’s what I said:
Watch the other hand. Since the administration took over, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has canceled oil-drilling leases on wide areas of the U.S. that already have known reserves, and the Obama administration is seriously considering making even more of the American West inaccessible for oil production — and lots of other uses — by declaring millions of acres as national monuments. ANWR, with well-known oil reserves, is out, but other areas in Alaska are being opened … for exploration. In fact, even this announcement included the Department of the Interior canceling already pending sales in Alaska so that the areas involved could be made available for exploratory studies. (Got that? The administration canceled pending lease sales and “opened” the area for exploration.)
Just thought it was interesting, now that Obama is claiming that his administration has massively increased oil production and that it’s the nasty old Republicans who canceled the Keystone XL pipeline.

“The media continues to be fooled.”
Did you write that Charlie? You know perfectly well that the media are part of the con.
– hey hey
Lay off
La Vey!
He just looked so cool.
But I can see why someone who was merely an avowed Satanist wouldn’t want to be associated with this bunch.
“canceled pending lease sales”
contract law just doesn’t mean schmidt to these people
when did ‘public land’ become THEIR land? where’s title?
“Watch my right hand. See, nothing up my sleeve…now watch. POOF! New leases!”
Meanwhile, the left hand, out of view, has picked those leases from the pockets of the executives in the front row.
Oh, and I just realized that my sound effects might be considered homophobic…
Not sure if you saw the BI article on Keystone Lite yesterday. TransCanada is now planning a very large pipeline from Oklahoma to Texas. Somehow they managed to find a 480-mile stretch that didn’t have a pipeline connecting those two (adjacent) states.
I suppose the idea is to use this giant pipe as a collector of all the little pipelines running in from the north. I like lots of small pipes versus one very large pipe. Seems more secure to me. Small pipes are easier to repair. Small flows (thru small pipes) are more easily rerouted or are not missed as much as an interruption of a very large flow.
You must love pumping costs. Perhaps you sell pumps, or electricity? Because the physics of one large pipeline makes the transport of the fluid an order of magnitude cheaper than with many small ones. Oh, the carbon footprint!
Thank you, InSen. To the fourth power. Because that’s how flow increases with pipe diameter at the same pressure – Poiseuille’s Law. Double the diameter, get SIXTEEN TIMES more flow with the same pressure. But who are we to let the laws of physics get in the way of our progressive ideas?
I loved the president’s speech last week at the University of Miami.
“Domestic oil production is up.”
What he doesn’t say, of course, is that the domestic production increase is all on private or state land. Domestic production has actually decreased significantly on Federal lands, as the Administration has put up roadblocks to expanding production there.
But you can’t keep good capitalism down. All we need to do is continue to expand production and improve drilling techniques on private and state land, and tell the Federales to pound sand.
Its worse than that. Because of about a 5 yr delay from lease granting to actual production (to actually drill the wells and get them producing), any production increases on public lands now are due to leases approved under BUSH. One reason why prices are being bid up now is the experts know that Obamas lease policies will lead to a collapse in domestic production 5 yrs from now, and they are bidding up prices in preperation for it. Oil prices dont just depend on production today, but projected production 5 yrs from now. Of course anybody making projections like this, and pricing accordingly, is an evil speculator, according to dems. In reality they are smart people that look at the market ahead, and not just today, unlike dem politicians. Because of Obamas recent leasing policies on public lands, that production will collapse, and that is a major factor in todays price hikes. this is yet another example of Obamas total ignorance of the free market.
Of course Obama is not the only ignorant one. Bill O’Reilly has been playing the evil oil companies card on his show recently. I expect dems to be incompetant regarding free market issues, but it is even more dismaying that someone who claims to be a conservative is equally ignorant.
The best news is that the democrats think energy production is important enough to lie about. From now forward it will be admitted that we can and should develop our own sources of energy. Obama gets the credit, the country gets the victory. Incurable optimism?
It isn’t the Obama Administration’s fault that Domestic Producers won’t drill for Oil where it’s not. They’ve left open plenty of leases where there is no sure reserves of Oil, and the Oil Companies won’t drill there.
Will you people please give The One a break.
Leases = squat. You need BOTH leases AND permits to drill… which the EPA will be happy to… what’s that… they’re not giving any permits?
Like the author said: watch the other hand.
Uh, that was sarcasm I think.
sorry… it’s so hard to tell these days.
You clingers still cling to your lying eyes.
The students in the audience thought Obama’s speech was great, and they can hardly wait to vote.
(facepalm)
