Welcome to Orange County, Mr. President
President Obama is in the middle of a fundraising swing through California, rocking with the Foo Fighters and Jack Black last night at the home of a producer of The Bold and the Beautiful.
Tonight, he heads up to San Francisco for the only one of his eight fundraisers that will be open to radio and TV coverage.
This morning, though, he got a chillier welcome in the Southern California GOP stronghold of Orange County when he helicoptered to an event in Corona del Mar.
The White House pool reporter, from the Washington Post, said that sign-wielding residents lined the motorcade route with signs — and stuffed animals — against Obama:
Among the signs: “Evict Obummer,” “Evict Obama” and a large banner reading, “Protect Religious Freedom.”
Two people held signs reading “Remove the skunk from the White House” with stuffed animal skunks attached. Another read: “Gas prices up 91 percent under Obama.”
A woman yelled at the motorcade as it snaked through the posh neighborhood: “That’s our money at work.”
As we wound into the neighborhood, one manicured lawn had a sign reading “Bye bye Obama” with three young children playing out front.
Tickets for the Corona del Mar breakfast cost a mere $2,500, while the $38,500 tickets at tonight’s dinner by the Bay (with musical performance by Chris Cornell) should soothe any feelings hurt by Orange County’s skunky welcome.

– open to coverage because the reporters there will only fall over themselves while fawning on him.
“Gas prices up 91 percent under Obama”
How mathematically illiterate is that?
Okaaay.
I live in california, gas price, sept 2009 “$3.15/gal”
for the whole country, $2.58
now:
california average 3.91 up 24%
national 3.53 up 37%
Wrong.
According to GasBuddy.com, the average national gas price was $1.86 the day Obama took office. Today it’s around $3.50
That’s a 90% increase.
http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx?time=24
Prices did hit a high of $4.14 in July of 2009 due to fires, power outages and slowed maintenance delays, but it was back down by inauguration day.
Nobody competent at arithmetic, much less more complicated mathematics, supports Obama. For them, two plus two equals fourteen trillion.
I don’t remember the gas price around here being under $3 in the last 8 years.
Then I guess Consumer Reports is wrong and The Great Josh Scholar Is Always Right.
It appears that Josh has the idea that gas prices in his neighborhood are the same as in Texas, Alaska, Nebraska, and the rest of the US.
I’d imagine it comes from the lefty’s eternal love for central planning and price controls. He just can’t comprehend that gas prices might vary from state to state or even city to city.
Oops! Meant for the comment above to go under Chiefparker’s.
That’s what I get for commenting in a hurry.
Hi JS, It’s been apparent for some time now that there is little difference for you, between memory and manufacture.
Hang in there buddy, because one day the bulb is going to illuminate and I think almost everyone here is going to give you a standing O.
You see, what most of us have in common here, is we want to remove the sitting O.
The meaning of “national average” also seems to escape him.
Yesterday my hubby paid over $4/gal for regular in either Rosemead or Long Beach.
(His commute.)
Ever go to the daily schedule for Obama?
What does he DO all day for $400,000/year???
“What does he DO all day for $400,000/year???”
Prevent the XL pipeline, stop pomestic oil drilling, allow Iran to flex its muscle and drive up oil prices, go on Oprah and other talk shows, play class warfare, hit up really rich people for money, demonize Super PACs then tell his supporters to funnel tons of money to Super Pacs that support him… Seriously do you really need a list? Maybe if we paid him less he would do less damage. (I hope I do come off as angry towards you, its mostly in jest towards your question, with anger towards the non-Commander in Chief)
Presidentin’ be hard!
I heard that Obama golfs alot in hopes of hitting the pro trail with Tiger.
Gonna be a Tigorama. Ain’t cheap all that golfing.
Gosh, Josh. Inauguration is is September? Learn something new every day.
Why don’t you go back to Chucky J.? I’m sure he’d welcome you back with a parade.
Ya know, Snork, I find it interesting that Flaming Liberal has been silent since this morning, and yet Josh Scholar, who’s been pretty much absent for some time suddenly reappears.
Coincidence?
Yes of course, there’s only one non-right-winger in the world.
In fact I single-handedly voted for Barack Obama 69 million times in the last election with the help of Santa’s Sleigh.
That’s interesting. I have it on very good authority that your current IP address tracks back to a foreign country. I bet your mailman wasn’t happy about having to carry all those ballots to the North Pole for Santa to bring to… which eastern seaboard state was it again, Josh?
I mentioned what state I’m in already in this thread.
And yes, my IP address is currently cloaked.
Thanks for admitting your dishonesty.
Wasn’t someone bloviating about how dishonesty is bad earlier?
What the hell are you talking about?
Where am I “admitting” to “dishonesty” you unpleasant nutcase?
Insults? First warning.
I believe he was referring to your cloaking of your IP. I won’t speak for CW, but I certainly don’t hide who I am here, regardless of the effect writing for PJMedia has had on my MSM career.
Surely you won’t try to say a conservative trying to be a member of the MSM doesn’t face discrimination now will you?
Mr. Preston I think my reaction was reasonable considering his nonsensical and insulting “Thanks for admitting your dishonesty” attack.
Whether you thought it was reasonable is irrelevant.
Patrick is right. I happen to work in an industry that is, shall we say, rather politically sensitive right now and I’d rather not have my views used against me at review or promotion time, so I write under a nom du cyber, and have used the same one for years. It’s actually not that uncommon, Zombie does the same here, as does Allahpundit over at HotAir.
However, I’ve never cloaked my IP here or at any other blog, so Bryan knows where I am and that I am me.
I am not willing to accept that you voted for Dumbo 69 million times. I am willing to accept that you voted for Obama 25 times as did your dead grandmother, your dead great grandmother, your dead great great grandfather, your pet rock, cat, dog and fish along with your orchid named Charles and your cactus named Phoebe.
That would not surprise me. You are probably also dead.
I would not be surprised. You are probably also dead.
>> In fact I single-handedly voted for Barack Obama 69 million times in the last election…
How’s the weather in Chicago?
Wanderer, I think you are out of line. There is nothing dishonest in cloaking an IP. Some of us just like privacy. Some people have legitimate reason to fear retaliation. Some people just like to be careful.
http://www.gasbuddy.com/gb_retail_price_chart.aspx?time=24
The average on the first half of the chart looks higher than the second half of the chart.
So they’re comparing a momentary dip to other times.
How dishonest.
But dishonesty is good now. Don’t pretend you hate untruthfulness now! Since when has dishonest in your favor ever been anything but loved? Not any time recently.
Oops you have to manually hit the 6-year button to get the long chart
At last you admit you love to lie.
It’s called sarcasm
No it was not sarcasm it was the truth and another truth is your thinking and whoever taught it to you are Evil and damned by GOD!
You have fallen victim to believing demonization of Democrats that is every bit as outlandish as “Bush did 9/11″
American politics is never a Manechian battle of good vs. evil.
You want a sense of perspective? Look at Syria where they’re firing antiaircraft guns through houses!
Josh Scholar….gas where I live was $1.84 gallon in March 2009. Today it is $3.67. Do the math.
Orange County generally is not Obama-friendly turf.
Although, UC Irvine, is not generally friendly to Jews…the rest of Irvine and Newport Beach are not going to likely be a hotbed of Obama fanatics.
(there was a long standing OWS campout in Irvine that went largely ignored, not at UCI, but at the Irvine Civic Center, which drew …almost no attention whatsoever)
Obama will certainly take California in November, especially if Santorum wins the nomination, his brand of hard line bedroom issue campaigning will sink him like a shot put in the ocean here…but, a Paul Ryan, Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie type could have put this state in play this year.
Old information, cfb.
Santa Ana, CA is now America’s largest predominantly Spanish-speaking city.
It used to be part of ONCE-solidly Republican Orange County.
Only a scant 40% of Californians are ”white, non-Hispanics.”
But a fast-growing 37% are Hispanic and NOT conservative in any sense of the word.
(Unless you call pulling your 12 or 13 year-old daughter out of public school because you had a baby and need full-time day care conservative……more like Old World.)
Most Hispanics are not even assimilating, either.
Nine out of ten high school students who are not fluent in English in CA have been in US public schools since 1st grade!
have to agree with nan g
the notion that orange county is conservative is not true, although, there are many very strong conservative voices to be heard here
there are hordes of libs and tons of milquetoast/”cant we all get along republicans”/independents(because they are afraid of admitting to being republican)
there is a more than fair share of libertarians of which a significant portion are the ron paulistas
the vast majority of people here are uninvolved- end of story- scores had obama stickers on their cars in 2008 but now those stickers are gone fwiw
Hee hee. SB1070 is working just as I planned and it hasn’t even been implemented!
The country of Puerto Rico is officially considered 100% Mullato. I learned from a Puerto Rican friend of mine that the term skunk refers to Mullatos, i.e., being both black and white. What those protesters did using skunks was truly racist.
If you had to learn the meaning of the term from a Puerto Rican friend, why do you then assume the protestors knew about a Puerto Rican term? Perhaps they just think his policies stink? That would be the more common cultural context. The race card days are over. Go peddle that nonsense somewhere else.
No- Obama stinks all right. He stinks as a President. Really, really bad at it. He is redefining what it means ‘to suck at one’s job’. I wouldn’t hire the guy to run a fried dough stand at the county fair.
Oh, puh-leeze, not the race card again.
Made that whole thing up on the spot, didn’t you?

At this stage of the game, I’m surprised more people aren’t throwing eggs at the presidential motorcade. Well, give it time. We haven’t even hit the summer months yet.
I doubt if he’ll be visiting south Orange County again. He only goes where he’s “adored.”
A woman yelled at the motorcade as it snaked through the posh neighborhood: “That’s our money at work.”
Speaking of money at work, it’s so nice to know that BDD’s (big democrat donors) are driving United States policy.
When you hear that “the base” was against Keystone (for example), don’t think of all those scraggly Occupiers…
but of hugely wealthy party donors
“”They do it because I represent money. And that’s not right,” she said. “Isn’t it sad, that it’s all driven by money?”
Yes it is, Susie. And you’re one of the principal reasons.
How CLEVER… a SKUNK… perfect… absolutely PERFECT… I must find a skunk for my convention hat… remove the skunk from the white house….
Once I was never so proud to be associated with a group as when the Riders of Rolling Thunder turned their backs on President Clinton when he c=spoke DOWN to them at the Vietnam Memorial. Now I am proud to have lived about a third of my life in the OC!
@josh scholar: U don’t think gas has doubled in price. Lets ask Chitcago where gas it now $4.95 a gallon. They beat NYC and LA both but they are close behind. I don’t think it was anywhere that in 2008.. Look it up for yourself
