Like many of you, I have been following the sexual harassment allegations surrounding Mr. Cain and have been both fascinated and appalled by the campaign’s complete failure at crisis communications and the media’s reluctance to put forth more details to substantiate such serious allegations.
In all honesty, the way the Cain story has been handled (by both the campaign and the press) makes me yearn for greater coverage of the Kim Kardashian divorce and Lindsay Lohan.
But Kimmy K. and LiLo aside, this whole goat rodeo has brought to mind this clip from 2008 in which then-candidate Barack Obama called a Michigan reporter “sweetie” while touring a plant in Detroit:
Now I bring this example up, not to point out the obvious bias and hypocrisy that comes along with covering such instances, but to illustrate a bigger problem: we’re losing focus on the narrative.
Let’s just briefly revisit a couple items:
1) President Obama has been giving Congress the runaround and is unilaterally issuing executive orders as a way to push through his agenda
2) The Fast and Furious scandal has escalated with news that Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer knew about potential problems with the operation back in 2006
3) Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac has asked for an additional $6 billion in aid. Add that to the $169 billion taxpayers have already spent to bailout the fledgling federal agencies
4) And let’s not forget the growing list of failed alternative energy companies after Beacon Power filed for bankruptcy. Another one bites the dust, eh?
Now the allegations involving Mr. Cain are serious and do need to be answered and investigated with the utmost care. Most of Cain’s wounds have been self-inflicted by mishandling the media. And it doesn’t help to finger point a rival campaign without evidence. But what is most disturbing to me is the fact that attention to important issues that have a direct impact on the health and prosperity of our country have fallen by the wayside.
I hope Mr. Cain can clear up these issues soon so we can get back to the business at hand.
Because if we don’t, we’ll all be sorry, sweetie.

HES BUSTED!!! ITS OBVIOUS HES LYING.. DONT BLAME HIS STAFF!! OR THE MEDIA ON THIS ONE!
Yes you are right no matter how the Bad-Boy-Sweet-Talker-in-Chief bamboozles the Sweeties his lies can no longer be hidden by the media idiots who voted him President.
President Hollywood’s paper-mache’d fake Greek columns are falling apart center stage.
HOLY SHIRT, WE GOTS TROLLS WITH CAPSLOCK BUTTONS ON!!!!! OMG PONIES1111
“Now the allegations involving Mr. Cain are serious”
No, they are not. This is a tempest in a teapot. This is a couple women out of thousands with whom he has dealt in a lifetime. Some folks will take offense no matter what you say.
Let me remind you of what serious is:
Cain is a political naif;
Romney lies and switches positions left and right. His performance as Governor was poor;
Gingrich lied about balancing the budget. His positions are erratic. He QUIT as Speaker and Congressman under an ethics charge;
Perry cannot string two sentences together. He’s worse than Bush in that regard. He’s another Texas mental mediocrity;
Bachmann needs far more seasoning;
Paul is a far-right crazy uncle;
Huntsman is just a standard pol with nothing really to offer;
Johnson who? Roemer who? McCotter who?;
Meanwhile, the world economy teeters on the brink. We have an imperial President who ignores Congress and laws both. Congress passes no budgets. Government has broken down completely. The Far Left has removed their masks and are openly talking about suspending votes. We might not make it to 2013, folks. We may have to bring out the guns. Wouldn’t that be just lovely?;
And you think these womanish accusations against Cain are serious? Really? WTF?!?
This is all one big distraction. This is the usual GOP circular firing squad. It helps no one but the Left. And it is only possible because people are stupid enough to think it is serious. We no longer have adults in this country, just gossipy, petty high-schoolers.
If women didn’t vote, this would not be an issue. If women didn’t vote, the Dems would not have the power they do. If women didn’t vote, this stupid article would not get published.
You had me until your last paragraph.
“If women didn’t vote”..? Your cure for the litany of ills you recite is to strip women of the vote?
Really?
I was following the reasoning with some interest until that last paragraph as well. I suspect that this post was actually made by a poseur trying to make conservatives look bad.
Of course, Marky Marc Malone. Before women & minorities could vote there was no such thing as Communists/Socialist/Marxists or a “Democrat” for that matter and certainly no Commies/Socialsist/Marxists are ‘men’! *cough-cough*
;p
Well, lacking the wit to find a more suitable thread in which to share this, I’ll just post it here ( the deja vu moment is at 1:32 – 1:36 ) -

As Julia Child surely must have noted, history reheats itself.
Somebody needs to tell that fool to keep his hand in his (own) pocket for a *change*.
Totally in agreement with Marc Malone. This is the typical obfuscation that will continue to get worse under the circumstances of running against the communist in chief. Republicans are looking pretty shabby in this also. The woman vote is very fickle but let me just throw this out: Obama’s policies will just make women’s lives more difficult and less satisfying. From employment in going-nowhere jobs to raising children. If we cannot dump Obama this terrible economic situation will worsen.
Before the ’08 election and I witnessed these adoring looks from that multitude of women that were in the audience I was scratching my head. I sincerely hope these same women have buyers remorse and wake up to the realities that we face today. Now we have an uphill climb and we will not get back to our former prosperity in my lifetime and I do hold these women responsible. My grandchildren will be pushing a boulder uphill for many years.
This—if we don’t vote him out of office now. If he is defeated the recovery will be difficult. If he is re-elected we will be slaves to a socialist/communist state. There I go re-stating the obvious again.
A lot of Cain supporters here have been saying over and over and over again, “It can’t be the Dems!”
This right here shows why it most certainly can be the Dems behind the leak of this story. It lets the Democrats and their willing accomplices in the Dinosaur Media shift the focus from the abysmal job Obama is doing and onto the alleged sexual peccadilloes of (gasp!) a black Republican!
That, ladies and gentlemen, is why there’s a good chance it’s the Dems behind it. Oh, and there’s the obvious parallel to the Clarence Thomas smear, too.
Very well said, Alexis. Thank you for your succinctness.
In the end I think Mr. Cain is burnt toast and we’ll will be moving on shortly. I hope then that we don’t go desperately seeking someone, anyone else we can project up on the conservate screens to be the next great hope without thorougly vetting him or her. We’re far to quick to become infatuated!
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are “fledgling” agencies? Don’t you mean “flailing”? Fledgling implies new, IIRC, and they’ve been around quite a while – too long.
You are exactly right. Right now, until some other credible evidence comes forward, this is a non-issue. We need to focus on ourselves and which candidate promotes the best future for our country.
A Stroke of genius! Look at Cain’s numbers climb!
Everybody understands he is being slimed by the MSM. Considering how the public feels about the MSM, it’s easy to see why Cain’s numbers are climbing.
I think Perry did it. It fit’s Perry’s MO and his inclination for the dark side of politics. Perry would make a good POTUS, the last 2 years of his second term. First Term would be rough sledding. Perry’s learning curve is a little on the shallow side.
Unlike Mitt, who’s learning curve is almost straight up. It seems every few seconds he learns something new that causes him to change his mind. Maybe Mitt should ask Biden to be his running mate, Then we could call it the ‘Windtunnel administration’. The down side of that is it will take Romney from indistinguishable from Obama to a clone of Obama. I’m sure the New England RINOs would grok that but the average voter would wonder why voting for a clone was a good thing when the real deal was right there, just the push of a lever away.
Someone should ask Cain about his opinion of Jennifer Flower’s and Juanita Broaderick’s involvement with Clinton. The questioner should not help him by pointing out the difference between the two — sexual harassment versus alleged rape. I bet Cain comes across as sympathetic to Clinton in general and clueless about the different circumstances of the two women. There’s little point trying to defend Cain at this point, because this sort of “rumble before the storm” is just how it was with Clinton immediately after he broke into national politics.
Just like there’s never just one story about how loudly and inappropriately a powerful executive lost his temper without much provocation, so there’s never just one women unhappy with how a powerful man treated her. The more these unhappy women see him on the nightly news, the more likely they are to try for their 15 minutes of fame. This has nothing to do with American culture and everything to do with human nature. Look at what has happened to DSK since he was indicted in New York. Beating the rap there has not solved DSK’s problems, and getting by these first ambiguous allegations will not solve Cain’s.
If the Republicans nominate Cain for president they will not only end up having to defend the mistakes of an amateur and inexperienced candidate as he runs for office (Obama) but also have to push back against ever more substantial and believable allegations of sexual misbehavior (Clinton). Who could possible resist this sort of two-for-one package deal?
The fact that the marxist in chief has had a two-week vacation from the horrors he has inflicted on the country is one of the best arguments that the smears come from him.
Serious charges? There were no charges. There are accusations of gestures. Gestures. What a scandal. Unprecedented scandal. We’ve never had a Gesture Gate. Politico breaks new ground. Cain and his crew are babes in the woods for the predatory media. But the guy has a solid record of integrity and this will pass. I would rather see Sarah in the race but she is working on replacing the GOP crony capitalists in Congress with outrageous tea party patriots who can’t be bought off or threatened. So, Herman, get your act together. I think the Marxists are freaking because they plan on having race riots next summer to oppose the GOP candidate and give El Duche’s understudy an excuse for cancelling elections. Mr. Cain really ruins the very last hope they have.
