Curt Anderson: Cain Never Even Told Me About his Sexual Harassment Allegations

On Fox News, Curt Anderson categorically denied not only being Politico’s source for the Cain story, he denied even knowing about the sexual harassment allegations at all. Anderson also said that he continues to have very high regard for Herman Cain. Anderson worked on Cain’s 2004 bid for the US Senate, and is currently working on Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign. Anderson also appeared on CNN earlier and answered the same questions.

BORGER: Are you the leaker?

ANDERSON: No. Well, there’s two problems with that. One is, I didn’t know anything about this. It’s hard to leak something you don’t know anything about, of course.

The second problem with it is this: if someone tells you something in confidence, a family member, a friend, a candidate, a client, and then you go out and blab it to other people, that’s just unethical. That’s not the way I live my life.

But that’s sort of immaterial in this instance because I didn’t know anything about this.

BORGER: So, you are saying that that conversation never took place?

ANDERSON: That’s correct. I don’t have any knowledge of any of this and, you know, it’s just not true.

BORGER: So, are you saying Herman Cain is lying?

ANDERSON: Well, I’m not here to add any more name calling to what is already —

BORGER: My characterization, though. Is he not telling the truth?

ANDERSON: I’m not going to attack him in any sort of personal way or anything.

One key detail didn’t come up in the Fox interview, though, which is the fact that Politico was working on the story before Anderson joined the Perry campaign. Cain is fighting allegations he calls “baseless” with allegations against others that appear to be baseless. Cain has taken what was an opportunity to unite the GOP base against a thinly sourced MSM hit piece and turned it into an even more thinly sourced attack on fellow Republicans, dividing the base and revealing his own campaign’s rank incompetence. He did the same thing when the Republican he is accusing now was under fire from another ridiculous MSM hit piece.

Meanwhile, we seem to be up to five accusers now (three from the NRA, and the two radio producers in Iowa), though none are yet willing to put their names to their accusations.

But hey, at least the Cain Train got its money bomb going.
