The president who says we’ve gone soft now says we lack ambition as a nation.
“We have lost our ambition, our imagination, and our willingness to do the things that built the Golden Gate Bridge,” President Obama said at a fundraiser in San Francisco on Tuesday.
About that. America freed millions from tyranny over just the past decade while Obama and his friends carped about it. Americans built the Golden Gate Bridge on time, under budget in the midst of the Depression. Today, the World Trade Center that terrorists destroyed more than 10 years ago is just now being rebuilt. Whatever the published pricetag says, everyone knows it will cost more. It’s not a lack of ambition that’s gotten us to this point, it’s that we’ve grown government to the point that it’s nearly impossible to get anything done. Environmentalists routinely file suit to stop worthwhile projects, and often get paid by the federal government to launch these lawsuits. Obama’s own NLRB is strangling Boeing’s development of the next generation of airliner in South Carolina, which may end up giving foreign concerns an edge over our own. Obama’s fine with all that. If he wasn’t, he would put a stop to it. But no, you’re the problem, not him.
Notice also that the only ambition Obama recognizes involves government spending to build stuff. He’s living 70 years in the past — he wants to be another FDR but we’ve already had one. While he laments America’s past ambition (by which, he really means he just wants to build big stuff and put his name on it like some tinpot Dear Leader), Apple has become the most valuable brand in the world by innovating and improving without any government say-so. Private entrepreneur Richard Branson has come to the US and built the world’s first private spaceport. Every day in ways large and small, Americans born here and naturalized do their best to get by despite all the obstacles government keeps putting in front of them. If Americans have lost any ambition, it’s because Obama and his leftist ilk have beaten it out of us.
