A re-release of audio tapes analyzed with modern equipment shows clearly that shots were fired that were not coming from either the guards’ M-1′s or their officers’ 45 1911s. Guardsmen had claimed they were responding to shots fired, while at the same time being pelted with chunks of concrete. The riot — not a demonstration — was orchestrated and planned the day before, and small-caliber pistols were carried by at least two of the plotters. Much of this was known to authorities at the time, but the MSM, like now, chose not to cover that.

Sorry JS but you are showing your ignorance about weapons every time you open your mouth. The ranges that you are discussing are minimal compared to what the rifles were capable of. The M1 Garand rifles being carried by the Ohio National Guard are chambered in 30-06. Those rifles are capable of hitting targets out past 2400 ft. The round itself is accurate to over 3000 ft. It is completely possible that a number of those people who were hit by rounds that had passed through someone else, garbage cans, or any of a number of other objects. The fact that only 4 people were killed is a miracle. The fact remains that protestors on colleges across the country were burning buildings and assaulting police and National Guard members with bricks, stones, and bottles.
Wouldn’t you be a little nervous at being a 19 yr old straight out of basic training in a handful of guardsmen armed with 8 round rifles that your father (or grandfather)may have carried at Normandy or Chosin facing a crowd of hundreds of protesters? Especially ones that have resorted to violence before? If not, you would have to be like Kevin Bacon’s character at the end of “Animal House”, stomped into the sidewalk and still shouting “All is well. All is well.”
The fact remains that the same people who are protesting in the streets of our major cities about what CEOs earn, are huge fans of pro athletes, actors and rap “artists” who make substantially more, while producing far less. Hell, some of the protestors ARE the same people who make more money but produce far less than the average CEO. There is also the fact that the very people who are protesting are the ones who riot after a freaking basketball or football championship game.
BTW we had protesters on campus when I was in ROTC. I ignored them because they were such cowards that they wouldn’t say anything to your face unless there were 15 of them, or at least 8 to say something behind our back. When I told my ROTC instructors my attitude about them, they thought it was hysterical.

Not all were infantry or combat arms, but they were still trained how to shoot. It would not be an easy thing to do, but neither is it realistic to think that the socialist protestors would be able to just go around and pull whatever kind of Che Guevara bullsnot they think they can get away with…the time is not here yet, and hopefully it will not come, but I agree with the other veterans: I didn’t spend all those years in the military to just see this place turn into a complete toilet and be sent off to some wanna-be gulag so a bunch of little whiny lazy jerks can profess their worship of Karl Marx.

She just hasn’t grown up enough to realize it is not Wall Street that is responsible for her economic woes, but the simple fact she smokes pot, and is shacked up with a deadbeat “baby-daddy” who refuses to do anything productive.

I thought, and was taught, in public school, that the US is a Republic and not a Democracy. Also, these protests might have started by frustrated people out of work and the like but it is something else now. These people at these events need to work hard and find a job or jobs as many jobs still exist. Agree with the above comment and mindset. I too work for someone that has made it big financially – and I am but a peon in the large organization. But a happy peon that has worked for what he has, stayed out of debt, avoided big problems and focused on faith, family, and friends as the source of my contentment in life. The US armed forces (including civilian law enforcement) has many more non-lethal devices and strategies than just the tear gas and water cannons that we have seen in recent third world demonstrations. Once these morons take to violence and vandalism, it is the duty of the police, and national guard troops if called by governors, to use whatever non-lethal means necessary. One such device is a concentrated beam of sound waves capable of incapacitating hundreds of people in seconds. Another is a disorienting beam of strobe like lights that does the same thing and is very effective at night. Police have numerous painful but non-lethal plastic – rubber bullets, bean bags, nets, etc. used to pacify mobs. I look forward to the time when it becomes necessary for officials to use these modern crowd dispersements. I doubt the US police and governors (especially red states) will allow anything like we saw in London to transpire here.

You mistake the benefits from 235 years’ of persistent hard work in a capitalist system (which honors patent rights and allows a man to benefit from his labor) for the Socialist tripe these protesters feel they are entitled to. America is not, and never has been, a welfare state. My parents worked their butts off as LEGAL immigrants and they valued their citizenship from the moment it was granted several years later. They never asked for a hand out. My dad only knew a few words in English at the time but that didn’t stop him from working as labor at a firm that made construction trailers (he was an electrician by trade but his license wasn’t recognized here) and freezing his fanny off in the winter months while working outside. Any benefits he gets from the system now that he has retired are because he paid for it and into it.

I watched some of these “revolutionaries” in the Chicago Loop yesterday. The public ignored them. One threw an empty styrofoam cup on the sidewalk in front of a policeman who blocked his path and said, “Pick that up – this isn’t New York.’ The urban guerrilla meekly obeyed. If these are obama’s Brown Shirts, there certainly isn’t anything to worry about.
Yeah, I was there too. These people are almost zombie-like with their inane chants. And they stink. Either that is a tactic or they have muy malo personal hygiene. One of the regular street corner panhandlers on State Street complained that they smelled worse than the bag lady he runs off his corner every day.

The so-called “Occupy Wall Street” and its million, uncoordinated, unrelated off-shoot ‘protests’ will ultimately fail. Any attempts to make this violent will fizzle. Reasons: a) they don’t have a message that resonates with majority of general populace; b) the so-called protesters are some of the most pampered, self-absorbed collective in history. They don’t know what struggle or sacrifice really means; c) Because there is no grounds-up message (like the tea party had and has), the organizers have to literally outsource i.e. pay for leaders and proxy protesters to try to stir up the ‘masses’. Like any businesspeople (and even misanthropes like George Soros are at their core, businesspeople), they’ll take their money and ‘invest’ it elsewhere to try to force their version of change.
