Big Government reports that a FOIA request by Judicial Watch uncovered the high cost we paid for Michelle’s “get involved” tour of Africa:
- According to U.S. Department of Defense’s published hourly rates for the C-32A aircraft used for the trip, we calculated the total cost to American taxpayers was $424,142 for the flight and crew. (The C-32 is a specially configured military version of the Boeing 757.) Other expenses ─ meals (off the plane), transportation, security, various services, etc. ─ have yet to be reported.
- The expense records also indicate $928.44 were spent for “bulk food” purchases on flight. Overall, during the trip, 192 meals were served for the 21 passengers on board.
- The passenger manifests confirm the presence of Obama’s daughter’s, Malia and Sasha on the trip. The two girls are listed as “Senior Staff.” The manifests also list Mrs. Obama’s mother, Marian Robinson, and niece and nephew, Leslie and Avery Robinson, as well Mrs. Obama’s makeup and hairstylist (Carl Ray and Johnny Wright).
I suppose we’re lucky she didn’t haul all of Sidwell, the pricey private school her kids attend, along as well.

Everyone I showed this too had the same question.
Were the two girls PAID as senior staff?
With this collection of Marxist grifters in the White House, it is far from unlikely.
Ms. Feldman, do you have any information on this, or can you follow up?
Subotai Bahadur
I don’t have more information though I expect Judicial Watch will be providing more as they finish reviewing the papers. I suppose that the girls were called “senior staff” so that the White House did not have to reimburse the cost of their space on the plane and other expenses.
Bullseye, Ms. Feldman! What a crew. And yes, how fortunate we tax payers are that the entire Sidwell Friends School — faculty, staff and students alike– didn’t get enlisted as “senior staff” for this atrocious
boondoggle. Have they no shame? Does one have to ask?
“I suppose we’re lucky she didn’t haul all of Sidwell, the pricey private school her kids attend, along as well.”
– DON’T give them any ideas!!!!
‘The passenger manifests confirm the presence of Obama’s daughter’s, Malia and Sasha on the trip. The two girls are listed as “Senior Staff.”’
Well, they probably qualify by lefty, perpetual juvenile standards.
I’m not going to get upset over the girls’ listings as “Senior Staff” unless it’s more than just the manifest… isn’t that really just saying what section of the plane they were sitting in?
Althuogh, that does mean I have to pass up jokes such as “A ten-year-old Senior Staffer? Suddenly Obama’s policies make sense!”
Anybody remember when Amy Carter was Jimmah’s go-to “senior staff” on nukes?
The more things change in Donkeyland…
Class counts, mostly by its absence.
They better get their pomp and circumstance travel in now. Next year, they’ll be packing to move out of the White House.
Wow, at this price a “Back to Africa” program will cost a lot.
“$928.44 were spent for “bulk food” purchases on flight. Overall, during the trip, 192 meals were served for the 21 passengers on board.”
That works out to over 9 meals per person.
Apparently the flight was also designed to promote obesity awareness!
I don’t mind them going to Africa, even if it is expensive.
I do mind them returning.
Terrific submit, I must say i count on updates from you.
