The Racer meme continues to move through the main stream media, and allows the MSM an easy way to discredit anyone who opposes President Obama’s policies. After his announcement in South Carolina, and arrival in Iowa, Texas Governor (and presidential candidate) Rick Perry found himself under attack from the usual Racer suspects.
The other night, MSNBC host Ed Schultz, host of The Ed Show, showed a piece that accuses Gov. Perry of racism by selectively and deceptively editing a video of Perry speaking at the Des Moines Register Soapbox at the Iowa State Fair.
Schultz rails that when Perry states that a “Black Cloud” hangs over America, Perry means President Obama. So there is no confusion, Schultz starts his piece talking about the overt racism in the United States:
I think there’s an element of racism every time people claim the first black President doesn’t love this country. Perry comes from the radical country club that loves to remind white America President Obama is other; not like you. Perry also wants you to know that he is pro-business.
We will set aside Schultz’ inane attack on Capitalism, and focus on his primary lie. This meme, put forth by other key Racers like Janeane Garofalo, Al Sharpton and Keith Olbermann, is not based on reality or truth. Rather, Racers push the meme solely as an attack vehicle, designed to engage class warfare and intimidate the target. In this case, the target is the biggest threat to Obama’s re-election chances to date: Governor Rick Perry.
However, Schultz and his team at MSNBC lied. The video, when played in its entirety, clearly shows that the “Black Cloud” Perry is talking about is the debt, not Obama.
As pointed out by Larry O’Connor, editor of Breitbart.tv, Schultz admits the error in the editing, but does not apologize for the purpose of the editing, which is to engage the Racer meme and distort reality; To portray Gov. Perry as a racist and to engage the rabid, truth-be-damned, class warfare fanatical fan base at MSNBC to rally around President Obama.
While there are far too many apologies in American media today, (Schultz himself gave one of the best apologies in history a few months back, after a hate-filled radio show rant against conservative Laura Ingraham. It earned him many kudos amongst conservatives.) an apology here would not be enough. It simply won’t do.
If this was part of a stream of consciousness rant, an ever escalating, heated tirade that led to an inappropriate statement or falsifying of facts, then perhaps an apology (as it were) would suffice. But this was not the situation. This was calculated. This was discussed. And, unless Schultz is truly adept with Final Cut Pro, sent all of his producers out of the room while the clip was rolling and ran the production room by himself while on camera, this is also conspiratorial. Schultz, and his staff, knew they were lying, and actively participated in deceiving their viewers while engaging, together, in a vicious slander of Gov. Perry.
They don’t have to apologize. They have to be fired by MSNBC for engaging in a conspiracy to falsify the news to allow themselves a clearer path to espousing their rigid ideology. Will MSNBC recognize this? Time will tell, and so will the viewership.

Agreed.
There is no way this editing job was remotely related to honest mistake or even opinion. This was deliberate and unethical.
Let him be who he is. Let them all be who they are.
If it was some kind of a sly, subtle attack, like Little Lenin makes every time he opens his mouth, then it would be concerning.
But it’s a good thing for out-of-control mouthpieces like the MSLSD crew to put their insanity on display for the world to see.
If the country can’t see through this kind of crap then there isn’t any hope anyway.
As I’ve said before, Mr. Ed’s attack was not only a lie, but a calculated lie used to spread untruths and to personally discredit someone else. This is more than just liberal media bias. This is defamation. And I believe it could be the basis of a lawsuit. I would love for Mr. Perry to assign a junior lawyer to go after Mr. Ed and MSNBC… just to cause the grief.
Hiring Al Sharpton and now Ed Schultz getting caught red-handed. Do we see a pattern of Mostly Stupid ‘N Biased Content demagoguing the race issue? This is now standard operating procedure at Bill Gates’ network!
Expect more such beclowning in the weeks and months to come.
Ed Schultz and MessNBC are just perfect for each other. Though what Schultz did was completely unethical and wrong in every which way, I take comfort in the fact that no one even watches MSNBC. Not to mention his stupid show. Great article Tony!
“I take comfort in the fact that no one even watches MSNBC.”
That’s part of the plan. First he posts the edited video making the smear. Then he apologized for the “error”. Nobody watches either except a few lefties who could care less about ethics, meanwhile the first clip but not the apology gets on other Winston Smith Media shows and the internet.
Hiring Al Sharpton for a ful-time gig shows that MSNBC is a lot of things but “serious” is not one of them. Schultz reminds me of “Pitchfork Ben” Tillman, the famous (and deeply racist) Populist Party U.S. Senator from the late 19th Century. Tillman was a avowed enemy of “the interests” which he saw personified by the New Yorker, Grover Cleveland. He got hjis nickname from a campaign speech where Tillman said “If you send me to Washington I’ll puut my pitchfork in Cleveland’s fat ribs.” Schultz is only a faux-populist but his ranting is right out of the Tillman playbook.
Given MSNBC’s connection to MS, I will use programming terminology to point out that for them, this is a feature, not a bug. Expect Schultz to suffer the type of “repercussions” suffered by the leading criminals at ATF for Fast and Furious.
["Given MSNBC’s connection to MS.."]
On December 23, 2005, NBC Universal purchased a majority stake in the MSNBC television channel, which left Microsoft with 18%, later reduced to zero.
In 2011, Comcast purchased 51% of NBC Universal.
MSNBC – By Any Means Necessary.
The editing was trivial compared with Schultz’s blatant assertion, right after Perry’s speech was cut, that Perry was a racist because his ‘black cloud’ remark was aimed at Obama. It wasn’t. Shultz knew that Perry referred it to the staggering national debt, and chose instead to misrepresent Perry.
Shultz’s assertion was a lie, and a deliberate slander. He didn’t need the Perry clip at all – it was just icing on his poisonous propaganda cake. Since Shultz’s producers and paycheck-writers didn’t take immediate action to disavow the lie (let alone punish Schultz), they are just as much a part of the slander as he is.
Wouldn’t it be pretty to think so, Tony?
Someone needs to explore the overall pattern of MSNBC’s corrupt corporate practice of manufactured racist firestarting in their desperate efforts to stoke racial hatred — and presumably then the riots to be covered on MSNBC’s cable properties.
I’m not sure this is even legal or merely a civil offense.
They say, what they say, let them say.
Notice, we’re talking about it more than either one of Ed’s fans.
Is Ed Schultz ever sober enough to remember what he said a hour ago? He should be washing windshields at the tunnel with a dirty rag for booze money.
Of course he should be fired. But since we’re talking about MSNBC (where professionalism is neither required nor encouraged) he probably won’t be.
MSNBC has to be the slums of the NBC network. They hire only derelicts.
From the ‘upscale’ New York Times’ lying about Darrel Issa to the in the gutter MSNBC’s Ed Schultz’s lying about Perry, there is only conclusion we can all draw: Do not trust the LSM for anything. Don’t trust page numbers on the Times and don’t trust the time clock at MSNBC; that’s how bad it is.
Theres not a bit of difference between any of the ‘primetime news’ folks on any TV channel. Likewise, theres not a bit of difference between any of the ‘political sites’ on the internet, the political pundits on the radio or in print. The ONLY thing that separates them is the political parties or special interest goups they represent. Their motives and tactics are identical!
In other words, PJM and Kos are identical except for the political leanings of the contributers. Right?
Be bolder TT. Go on record.
Sorry proreason…I guess I wasn’t very clear but it seems you figured it out anyway…..no difference but for the sides they represent….report and distort…opinionate and assassinate….politicize and demonize. You’re an old salt; know the drill!
Perry gave a speech earlier this week where he made the mistake of referring to our nation’s debt at the “big black cloud that hands over America.” http://bit.ly/qSgG2a
There is only one way to fix this, from Perry’s point of view:
Tell MSNBC, and NBC News, that as long as Ed Schultz is on their network he will not give them any interviews. And if Perry is elected President, he will not go on NBC News until Schultz is fired or quits.
See how fast “Special Ed” is forced out of his faux job if those conditions are spelled out to NBC News.
