Hamas friend of UCIrvine arrested

The IDF has just detained three Hamas officials on the West Bank. One of them is Dr Abdel Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Dweik, as some PJMedia readers will remember, is the Hamas leader who secretly met with UCIrvine students in Israel as part of the university’s so-called Olive Tree Initiative. UCI professors were at that time touting Dweik as a “moderate” member of Hamas who would be willing to recognize Israel, while the doctor was saying precisely the opposite in Arabic to his own people and media. (I know – you’re shocked.) Dweik was arrested before when Hamas abducted the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Shalit’s location is still unknown.
