Hot Air has the scoop, but here’s what cooking on the House side:
H.R. 1229 Putting the Gulf of Mexico Back to Work Act. To amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to facilitate the safe and timely production of American energy resources from the Gulf of Mexico.
H.R. 1230 Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act. To require the Secretary of the Interior to conduct certain offshore oil and gas lease sales, and for other purposes.
H.R. 1231 Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act. To amend the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to require that each 5-year offshore oil and gas leasing program offer leasing in the areas with the most prospective oil and gas resources, to establish a domestic oil and natural gas production goal, and for other purposes.
It will be interesting to see how Harry Reid manages to carry the President’s water over on the Senate side.

I wish they would take on the prospect of natural gas. There is enough below the marcellus shale to last centuries (maybe). A report was just released by the Global Warming Policy Foundation that lays to rest most of the arguments made by the left environmentalist as they organize to ban hydraulic fracturing. This is the great untold story!

it is only a matter of free market economics; if our industries were unleashed, even a bit, from their over regulated, over mandated, and over “cronied” marketplaces then all of these issues would solve themselves
allow some breathing room in the marketplace
this would enable the energy companies (the experts) to invest more heavily in development of viable energy resources
which would lead to products arriving on the market naturally, rather than foisted by a hamfisted bureaucrat
and so on, and so on…
we definitely live in troubled times when concepts of free markets, profits, competition, and such are foreign to so many in our country
They can pass whatever law they want, but if Salazar won’t issue drilling permits, nothing changes. The back to work act may cover this issue.
Splitting up the legislation into several bills is a good strategy. Now the opponents have to go on record a bunch of times with their opposition and the entire discussion carries on for quite a few more news cycles than they would like.
I still expect the outcome to be the same but this will help crack some resolve on the NIMBY/BANANAs
Thankfully some bloggers can write. Thank you for this article…
Awfully well written blog!
