One gambit of gun banners is to promote “sensible gun laws” that increase firearms costs, ensuring that fewer Americans can afford guns.
Yesterday, Congressman Mike Quigley (D, IL-5) announced his “TRACE (Trafficking Reduction and Criminal Enforcement) Act.” Ostensibly, this will “give the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) a greater ability to identify the source of illicit guns and choke off the supply to traffickers.”
TRACE requires:
- “A second, hidden serial number on every gun”.
- “Maintaining background check records for 60 days”, instead of the current 24 hours.
- “gun dealers to perform inventory checks to report lost and stolen guns”.
These requirements will drive up prices by:
- Increasing manufacturing costs.
- Creating larger, more expensive government via additional data processing and storage.
- Increase firearms dealers’ overhead.
Gun control benefits the wealthiest Americans, by ensuring only they can afford guns. For example, the District of Columbia has the toughest gun control laws in America. Recently, the Washington Post reported:
“In the 2½ years since the U.S. Supreme Court ended the District’s handgun ban, hundreds of residents in Washington’s safest, most well-to-do neighborhoods have armed themselves, registering far more guns than people in poorer, crime-plagued areas of the city, according to D.C. police data.”
In 2008, Democrats became the biggest recipients of corporate campaign contributions. Now the new party of big business wants to disarm the people who mistakenly voted for the mythical party of the little guy.

We really need to vote these morons out of office. they are getting too dangerous in thier power grabs
“A second, hidden serial number on every gun”.
Right.
The existence of which will be known, disseminated on the internet, and defeatable within 24 hours.
Brilliant.
As a member of the gun owning public (Springfield Arms M1911, Beretta 92, Savage Mk II, Savage M64 and a Remington 700/308) I wouldn’t get to concerned about this at least right now. There is no chance that this bill will pass the house and Darryl Issa is about to clobber the ATF and the Justice Department over the Gunwalker scandal. For those who don’t know what that is Gunwalker was a BATF project to trace the “iron river” that transported straw purchased firearms to drug cartels in Mexico except that BATF was behind the straw purchases. By some accounts BATF sent and lost control of over 4000 firearms to Mexico. Several of these guns were used in the murder two US LEOs.
What the Congressman is doing is trying to panic gun buyers into a mad dash to drive up the prices of guns and ammo. Don’t fall for something that cannot pass.
Considering that Boehner managed to ignore the will of the people and ‘compromise’ our financial future away, what do you suggest besides jumping on the lot of untrustworthy prostiticians with both feet?
Going back to sleep, murmuring “it’s only a dream”?
Focus on playing with our shiny toys that go ‘bang’?
Just wondering.
Contrary to the AP and many Conservative critics of the deal. The cuts were real. That spending has been removed from all future budgets and the miniscule sum of $400 billion over ten years is gone. The spending battle is not over in one period. (hockey analogy because it’s Stanley Cup time) There will be cuts in the debt ceiling increase (Durbin and Pryor are on board) and the 2012 budget is on the table. Only the childish, like you, think the budget fight is a one and done thing.
As far as gun control goes the Republicans, even a lot RINOs and not quite a few Democrats in the House, will vote any gun control legislation this or any year. The speaker nixed gun control legislation after the Giffords shooting. That is a pretty solid indicator of the firmness of his position.
Grow up and stop embarrassing yourself.
When people have to launch into personal attacks (“grow up and stop embarrasing yourself”) I have to wonder about their projection.
Your point is well-taken, and only serves to substantiate my point: Our political activism resulted in a more pro-rights Congress in 2010. But this war won’t be won as long as those who love money and power see an opportunity to scr** us for their benefit.
I have met many gun owners who are quick to rattle off hardware trivia, but have no interest in the unpleasant activities necessary to restore our 2AM freedom.
So are you more interested in attacking me, or in Liberty?
Well sport, I am a Second Amendment activist and as such I try to make sure that people don’t waste their time and money on fighting diversionary battles. Concetrate on the real issues like Constitutional concealed carry, reciprocity and open carry in at least non-urban settings. If we win those battles then worms like Quigley are put out of business. The more responsible people have guns the bigger the constituency for gun owners rights.
Sounds good. I specialize in outreach to those who are on the fence or unthinkingly support gun control. The more these people get educated to the realities of what gun control means, the better chance to bring them over and create a bigger constituency for gun owners rights.
Why would you want to hide your sidearm? Are you ashamed of it? Concealed carry was looked upon as bad form in the Founding era. Even today the bad guys still conceal.
Leave my guns alone. Haven’t they learned that gun control is a loosing political endeavor? Cutting the budget is the new thing this season.
Thanks, Howard. I appreciate all youi have done for the Second Amendment Right of all the people over the years. Tough job, but someone’s got to do it. Are you aware of my battle with Toledo, Ohio over concealed carry in 2005?
TSgt B
Yes. If I remember correctly, you didn’t win that court case.
I’m liking the Montana idea. Guns built and sold in-state are not subject to federal bullshit. Nice if it holds up. Glocks are built in Smyrna, GA. Berettas in Accokeek, MD (well, there goes Beretta).
Ira Silverstein is an anti-gun Jew. But as a Jewess in the US myself, I think the analogy is quite apt, and I want to encourage all REAL Americans to remember that America wasn’t won with a registered gun! That is why all REAL Americans, (not the Ira Silversteins) now put our 2nd Amendment FIRST!!
