Texas Republican legislators author bill that looks an awful lot like an amnesty for illegals
Texas House members Paul Workman and Jim Murphy, both Republicans, have submitted HB 2886, to establish “a work program for certain persons not legally authorized to be in the United States…” State Rep. Workman filed the bill on March 10.
On page 2 of their draft is this interesting clause:
“Sec. 54.003. ELIGIBILITY. (a) A foreign national who is not lawfully present in this state may apply for a Texas resident alien card.”
In other words, they want to make it easier for non-residents to come to Texas to fill jobs, when our official unemployment rate stands at 8.2%, and the underemployment rate is 18-20%.
Not only that, but they want to flood the labor market with criminals who have already violated federal law.
Both Workman and Murphy are freshmen this year, having defeated Democrat incumbents in liberal-leaning districts. Please contact your legislators and urge them to vote NO on HB 2886.

Say thank you to business lobbies in the state.
This is why lobbying and corporate contributions should be illegal.
Money talks, the citizen is a stooge who finances and votes for his own demise.
Thanks for letting me know there are intelligent Republicans in TX who acknowledge freedom to migrate for jobs from country to country if necessary. Federal Government should have no say in if a migrant can work or not. It should be limited to regularizing when individuals want to change nationality only in order to participate as citizens of the country they have chosen to live in.
The Mexican government’s policy on illegal immigration to Mexico is almost as bad as Hitler’s treatment of Jews and gays. Our government has no more nerve then Metro-sexual morons If my Representatives support this they are toast. I will be watching and I will be vocal and I will not be nice!
Punk-ass Republicans…the kind who think that conservatism is about their patrons making a profit at their fellow citizens’ expense.
Both of these varmints should be flogged out of the State House in Austin and into exile across the Mexican border.
It’s crap like this that turns Americans off to consrevatives.
“W” stepped in this same bucket of poo with his “Call it ANYTHING but Amnesty” initiative.
Apparently, these sod-busters failed to learn that lesson.
So, PJM is jumping on the “they took our jerbs” bandwagon.
Wonderful. Next thing, you guys will be saying free trade is shipping jobs to China, economics is a zero-sum game, and gosh-darn-it, union labor is the American way.
I’m not for illegal immigration, but aside from granting *residency* or work permits (not citizenship), how do you propose to solve this problem? Are we going to round up 12 million people and forcibly eject them from the country without actually knowing who/where they are?
the first thing we can do is remove the idiotic regulations protecting the delta smelt
there is no need for laborers when their is nothing to harvest
it is just wrong that living in california i have to buy produce from south america ffs
earlier this year i had to buy garlic from CHINA ffs; and gilroy is a couple hundred miles away
Serenity Now
*there
I second that. There is no place for the foul reek of protectionism at PJM.
And hey, to all you xenophobic weirdos, when all the men came back from WWII and the women were working too, did the unemployment skyrocket and we plunge into poverty? No, we enjoyed the fastest growth of prosperity in the history of the world. With more workers, WE MAKE MORE JOBS!
“Are we going to round up 12 million people and forcibly eject them from the country without actually knowing who/where they are?”
Nazi Germany managed to identify, locate, round up and deport to murder camps across Europe about as many people using 1940′s technology and while fighting and losing a war on at least 4 fronts.
I use this simply as an example that technically, it is very do-able.
The major difference is also that insteading of murdering them, we would be sending illegal immigrants home…where they belong.
Once our border is secure and we reduce the number of illegals here, THEN we can start talking about a “Guest Worker” program.
1) Wow.
2) The Jews were citizens and they knew who they were. You have no idea who is whom, and short of saying–”Go round up that brown person!”–you never will. The problem will continue to get worse until you can identify who is here illegally, and you do that with an immediate guest worker program that provides rule of law in exchange for paying taxes.
On another note, I pray we never have a country where we can have the military kick down the doors of a person’s home under mere suspicion of guilt. The day that happens, the Constitution is truly dead.
Google Radley Balko. Read his stuff.
I’m aware of Balko’s gut-wrenching stuff.
I’ll qualify by saying our current predicament is bad enough already without a full-force invasion on the American people. Despite those many, many, grotesque violations, most aspects of American life are still just compared to even our “enlightened” European forebears. I was born in the U.K. and the United States is still waaaay more free than they are. I think most Americans don’t know how good they actually have it and aren’t willing to fight to preserve their blessings when they are under attack.
But yes, the police invasions Balko reports on are totally antithetical to the things we profess as a culture.
“1) Wow”
Oh please…do you “wow” when you read reports of the bad health effects of cigarette smoking?
Do you “wow” when reading a piece in favor of banning guns?
Both of those were Nazi policy objectives…so go “wow” at the moon.
“2) The Jews were citizens and they knew who they were.”
What nonsense. The victimized Jews were citizens of a dozen countries across Europe, and Nazi invaders supposedly “just knew” which Hungarian, (for example), was Jewish and which wasn’t?
“You have no idea who is whom, and short of saying–”Go round up that brown person!”–you never will.”
You have no idea what I or anyone else know or do not know. And as far as “you never will”, I think you fail to appreciate just how thorough modern marketing techniques are.
Ever give your zip-code when making a purchase? You’d be surprised what an interested party can learn about you just from the zip code you inhabit.
I see that Godwin’s law is in full flight here.
Apparently, the illegal alien apologists realize they have no argument.
Time to primary these clowns. The Democrats they replaced weren’t *nearly* this bad on this issue.
And, to boot, the bill is stupid. It claims to provide immunity to *federal* law if you follow the *state* law program they propose.
Uh, guys. It’s not 1855, and this isn’t South Carolina . . . Interposition? Really?
This whole bill has “rookie mistake” written all over it. And that helps to explain why so many rookies never come back.
Police the voting booth to make sure that there is zero fraud from illegals, Felons and multiple votes. Then legislators don’t have to worry about loosing their jobs if they vote to uphold the laws of the nation. Demorcraps do but that is because those people are their base.
WTF? Hello, Texas? Are there not hordes of illegals tromping over your borders, shooting your citizens, and otherwise wreaking havoc?
Someone needs to slap some sense into those idiots.
What is wrong with making these illegal or legal workers prove their legality before they can get a job? Is their not a way to make the employers only hire legal workers? If they are illegal send them back and fine the employers than hire them.
This is a disgrace to all hard working americans and texans who are out of a job. They need to be removed from office
