Stop the Koch Brothers

(From Reddit, and yes, if you follow the link it’s pretty amusing but your virginal sensibilities will be offended.)

The KOCH brothers must be stopped. They gave $40K to Scott Walker, the MAX allowed by state law. That’s small potatoes compared to the $100+ million they give to other organizations. These organizations will terrify you. If the anti-union thing weren’t enough, here are bigger and better reasons to stop the evil Kochs. They are trying to:

  • decriminalize drugs,
  • legalize gay marriage,
  • repeal the Patriot Act,
  • end the police state,
  • cut defense spending.

Who hates the police? Only the criminals using drugs, amirite? We need the Patriot Act to allow government to go through our emails and tap our phones to catch people who smoke marijuana and put them in prison. Oh, it’s also good for terrorists.

Now, I’m not quite libertarian enough to buy the whole rant, but compare this to what liberals claim to be against….

If the Koch billionaires really wanted to legalize marijuana, they could have used some of their political donations to support the initiative that was on the ballot in California in 2010. Instead they spent hundreds of millions of dollars trying to elect Republicans who promised to scapegoat teachers. The Koch brothers gave about a million and a half dollars to support Scott Walker’s bid for the governorship of Wisconsin. They supported Republican candidates all over the country (for federal and state positions). They also have their own “grassroots” organization which they used to bus demonstrators into Madison last week to rally against teachers. Yet they didn’t lift a finger to support legalization of marijuana.

Plus, I believe if he were to read the articles he would find they did send money to support the legalization initiative.

Does anybody on PJM know who the Koch brothers are? I do a lot of reading of conservative websites, and I have no idea who they are.

I don’t doubt they exist and that they contribute to conservative causes, but I think there supposed influence on conservatism and Tea Parties is essentially nil.

The libwits didn’t have a boogieman comparable to Soros, so they made some up.

Well, yeah, we do, but that doesn’t mean anythig else you said was wrong.

The first graf of the Wikipedia article is reasonably fair”

David Hamilton Koch (pronounced “coke”,[5] born May 3, 1940) is an American businessman, philanthropist, political activist, and chemical engineer. He is a co-owner (with older brother Charles) and an executive vice president of Koch Industries, a conglomerate that is the second-largest privately held company in the U.S.[7] Koch is the second-richest resident of New York City as of 2010.[3][4] He is a major patron of the arts and funder of conservative and libertarian political causes and has been linked to the American Tea Party movement. He denies any connection.[2][3][8] Among other charities, he has contributed to Lincoln Center, Sloan Kettering, a fertility clinic at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the American Museum of Natural History’s David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing.[9] The New York State Theater at Lincoln Center, home of the New York City Opera and New York City Ballet was renamed the David H. Koch Theater in 2008 following a gift of 100 million dollars for the renovation of the theater. Condé Nast Portfolio describes him as “one of the most generous but low-key philanthropists in America.”[10]

You can be sure if the Koch Brothers were donating all of their money to the Democrat party, there would be nothing said. They would be on the same plane as George Soros and Warren Buffet. But, being that they are donating to conservative causes, they must be jailed and have all their assets seized. The same thing happened to Hank Greenburg, the former CEO and Chairman of AIG
