Word-salad of Hate at Oakland vigil for Tucson victims
I just got back from a vigil held this evening in Oakland to honor the victims of the Tucson shooting. The vigil was held in front of Oakland City Hall and was advertised as being “a nonpartisan event” where we would solely “express solidarity with the victims” — which is why I choose this particular event to attend, so I wouldn’t have to endure a lot of malicious blame-mongering.
Unfortunately, the atmosphere was sullied by speaker after speaker — including Representative Barbara Lee and Oakland Mayor Jean Quan — who managed to avoid naming names but lashed out at vague villains who have “created an atmosphere of hate” through “violence-tinged speech and images.” Fortunately, these inappropriate partisan jabs were balanced by the more honorific speeches by various pastors and ministers from the Oakland area.
And then everything went sour when the MC introduced someone named Roy Wilson, Program Director of Oakland’s Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center. At the climactic moment of this supposedly non-partisan event honoring victims, Mr. Wilson uncorked a rambling word-salad monologue that not only specified the bad guys by name, but devolved into a semi-coherent rant about social justice and racism and more mind-bending mixed metaphors than have ever been crammed into one paragraph. Here we were, trying to feel sympathy for the victims, and we had to endure this (transcription below):
Roy Wilson: “Dr. King enters this struggle boldly. He says, ‘Violence anywhere is a threat to violence everywhere. An injustice anywhere, is a threat to injustice everywhere. Rhetoric inciting violence anywhere, is a call to rhetoric to incite violence everywhere.’ Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, others in the Tea Party trend, claim that political events tied to violence and rhetoric tied to violence are not causing the division in our nation. Tens of thousands of African-Americans have been lynched in a sea of rhetoric dripping with racist blood. Workers have been shot down on the picket line, drummed under by the rhetoric of mis-accusations. Students have been shot down protesting for peace under the rhetoric of unamericanism. Tens of thousands of Native Americans have been annihilated under the rhetoric of White American exceptionalism. We have to act. Dr. King says that ‘Courage is the ability to go forward in spite of frightening situations. Cowardness’ he says, ‘is a submissive surrender to circumstance.’ We’re asking everyone to ask all of our elected officials at the municipal level, the county level, the state level, the federal government, to pass laws that prohibit the use of rhetoric and actions and campaigns that incite violence. We ask that we all go back to our organizations of faith, our unions, our schools, our high schools, our middle schools, our elementary schools, and create statements demanding that there be communication and debate based on love, based on peace, based on community, based on a stronger democracy. Now, we have to be courageous because some of us may say that’s just not enough, or why, that might not make a difference. Remember, words make a difference. I’ve just asked all of us to do some things and put words in the public, put words with the official seal of our government, put words under the titles of our schools, that say “We are family.”
Not only did he mangle MLK’s quotes beyond recognition, but he soon slid into inventing King quotes out of the whole cloth — I get the suspicion that MLK never actually said “Rhetoric inciting violence anywhere, is a call to rhetoric to incite violence everywhere.” If it wasn’t for the Sarah Palin/Glenn Beck/Tea Party part, I’d assume that the speaker had some kind of thought disorder in which the ability to create clear sentence structures is diminished. But I get the feeling he knew exactly what he was doing, he just necessarily had to ramble all over the verbal landscape because there was no logical basis to what he was claiming.
And when he calls for “laws that prohibit the use of rhetoric and actions and campaigns that incite violence,” you know what that means — people like Roy Wilson will be the ones determining what counts as Forbidden Speech, and before you know it we’re in a one-party state.
And one more thing: how can a sea of rhetoric drip with racist blood — or even regular blood?
So much for a non-partisan vigil. Another emotional moment destroyed by political venom.
UPDATE:
There were several reporters and local TV channels on hand, and if you scan the mainstream news sites you can find a few mentions of this rally, invariably characterized as “respectful” and “somber.” That’s odd: How can separate eyewitnesses to the same event come away with different impressions, Rashomon-style? Here’s how: note carefully what happens at exactly 1:20 in the video. You’ll notice that the lights which had been illuminating Roy Wilson are suddenly turned off, right when it becomes obvious that he’s going to continue his inappropriate political rant. What you’re seeing at that moment is a TV camera crew, which had been filming Roy Wilson’s speech for possible use as a soundbite in that evening’s news broadcast, realizing that the guy was going off-message — so they simply switched off the camera’s photo lights and stopped filming him because his speech no longer fit the media’s predetermined narrative. They went to the vigil to report on a “respectful” event, and by golly they were going to bring back a report about a “respectful” event, regardless of what actually occurred. That’s how subtle media bias can be — simply switching off the camera when inconvenient things start happening.

But whenever conservatives are smeared by liberals, they cringe in fear instead and say nothing. And soon after the general population believe the BS as if it was factual truth.
Sarah Palin is the only conservative polititian with the guts to fight back and she gets critisized by conservative commentators. Go figure!
In all seriousness, in most cases it’s good that the targets of a lot of these smears keep their powder dry. It wouldn’t send the right message for major politicians to be responding to tweets from every unknown moron.
But they should be ready to set a level of visibility and start playing whack-a-mole. When someone like our buddy Rahm, or an actual congressman, or high-level administration appointees or the president himself start to look feverish…THOSE should be “hit back twice as hard”.
The fever swamps? They’ve always been there on both sides of the divide and always will be. Meh. Let them stew until such a day as someone can devise a machine that can remove stupidity from the human brain. Then maybe we can clean it all up.
JL, conservatives didn’t do much cringing this time. They hit back pretty quickly, and pretty effectively. The “Palin did it” leftie meme is falling apart very rapidly. You could see that was the case when Obama repudiated the “Palin did it” people in his remarks. He knew the issue was a big loser for dems.
And if we ever go to the extreme of passing “laws that prohibit the use of rhetoric and actions and campaigns that incite violence” let’s be sure to hold Roy Wilson up as the reason why. Yes, Roy, you’ll finally be #1!

No need to apologize — that post of mine has been re-posted without credit across the Internet at least 10,000 times by now, and viewed by who-knows-how-many millions. Most of the people re-posting it are themselves taking it from yet some different site that also had re-posted it with no attribution, and so forth, so that the name of the original creator (me) had gotten lost in the shuffle way way back in the sequence. The only annoying part is that they stripped off my lengthy introduction, which to my mind is as essential as the pictures themselves.
Roy Wilson is just another Father Pfleger who, like millions of white liberals has adopted wholesale the black American view of the world.
If one watches a show, say like the old Dick Cavett or William Buckley shows or Tom Snyder or Charlie Rose and there are two white folks talking, they will normally talk about every topic under the sun from J.R.R. Tolkein to Monty Python to astrophysics to architecture and everything else a culture that literally embraces every idea no matter where it is from will do.
Change it to a show with two black Americans, say Tavis Smiley’s show, and the interview will invariably turns towards racism and race; conversation from a culture that embraces very little in a larger sense. The initial show of Arsenio Hall consisted of Eddie Murphy, a millionaire, and Hall griping about race.
This paradigm of cultural behavior as I see it is the single biggest reason why black Americans accomplish so little; it is an overarching lesson on how to be a failure in life.
What it must be like to have a brain and short circuit it by seeing every thing in the world through a lens of race and blame must be awful. I know it sure looks awful from the outside.
Were I a black American, I would take an example from Israel and favor wholesale emigration to Africa if race is really that big a deal. This will never happen as the rhetoric of black Americans in no way reflects their actual experience in America; they have it too good here to leave.
Were black Americans to emigrate to Africa in their millions they would disappear into the background in a couple generations – the exact opposite of the Jews in Palestine who achieved in 3 years after death camps that which black Americans haven’t been able to do in half a century in a scenario that is a Disney theme park compared to Mandatory Palestine.
Roy Wilson’s excuse making/blame game, partnered in the debauched failure of a ghetto that Oakland has become, shows how closely linked white liberalism is tied into the issue of race in America; we’re talking about a white liberal culture on the Left that emphatically did not see Rev. Wright as a racist. This “Nostalgie de la boue” is a concept which I have regarded as the delusional hallmark and centerpiece of liberalism in America for many years as well as part of the pure essence of the plague in America known as ‘political correctness’; in effect, many middle class Americans have taken up the cause of anti-colonialism, wittingly and unwittingly, not least among them President Barak Obama.
No surprise that at an event that has not the slightest thing to do with race, a white person on the Left who has basically adopted black America and President Obama’s lens of race should make such a speech. It’s “Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers” in all its stupid glory. Also no surprise that white liberalism is a virtual formula for failure. People like Bill Moyers and Noam Chomsky should go outside once in awhile, simply to see the devastation they have wrought if nothing else and black Americans need to come to realize that such men are in fact their enemies.

The average white American thinks about race for a minute or two a day, if that.
How frequently does the average minority American think about race?
It must be a mind-numbing box to live within.
Probably about the same as the average white American does.
Sadly, there’s a very large sub-set of minority Americans who are encouraged by the practicioners of identity and grievance politics to obsess about it.
From what I’ve seen, normal minority Americans give as much shrift to these types as normal white Americans give to to the likes of the Klan or the neo-Nazis…getting together and talking about how cool it is and how cool we are because we’re all white is likely just as stultifying as getting together and talking about how it sucks that we’re all black, (for example), would be.
Such folks are usually crashing bores.
No one in their right mind wants to spend the precious minutes of their lives in the company of someone who wakes up, looks at the mirror and says to himself:
“Awwww, SHIT!”
…and has his day and his mood go downhill from there.
I respectfully suggest you Google some black mainstream news and lifestyle websites that interview black celebrities, have black business advice, interview black politicians, give casualty figures for plane crashes by race and have ads from mainstream companies from Visa to kitchen fixtures. The idea that they are simply a response to Yahoo or MSN doesn’t hold water since there is a significant black presence on those sites and the only white presence on the black sites are people like Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Eminem. By default, any sector of American life that has no obvious black presence which is most of the arts and sciences, simply has no presence.
Then, try and find a specifically white mainstream website that is an equivalent. There are none, not one. The only thing out there are sites by morons like David Duke that have no mainstream credibility or advertising and no attention from whites other than shame.
After that, look up the Afrocentrists whose only interest in history consists of whether Egypt, Cleopatra, Septimus Severus, Socrates, and Hannibal were black. This is a mini industry in itself with websites by black academics, black protests outside King Tut exhibit’s and a presence on the black mainstream sites mentioned above, public debates at campuses and plenty of traction on youtube. This wrong headed interest without academic or even basic knowledge of geopolitics is why black Americans are angry about Darfur in the Sudan as they have been wrongly told that it is Arabs in the North killing blacks in the South when it is in fact black on black Arabic speaking muslims against non-Arabic SPEAKING culture.
Black Americans are obsessed with race which is one thing but this is coupled with grievance and hostility and an utter lack of fair play or proportion. Emmett Till and 4 black school girls killed decades ago are trotted out like pieces of the true cross while hundreds of white deaths and rapes at the hands of blacks today goes by with barely a nod. Black urban myths about racist white America common among black Americans have no weight under the scrutiny of statistics.
As any adult knows, one of the keys to success is networking but when people self segregate this becomes problematic. Generally speaking, whites don’t wake up in the morning and think they are white but human but the exact opposite is true for black Americans.
One could write a book about this subject ranging from the Williams sisters in tennis to two black Dallas city councilmen outraged at the term “black hole” on youtube, to an L.A. NAACP news conference last year pillorying a Hallmark card for saying “black ho’” rather than “black hole” which would have pissed them off in any event to black movie critics and actors on Turner Classic Movies blithely stating that the only scenes of interest to them in “Gone With the Wind” were the few scenes with blacks.
When visiting great tourist sites around the world, whites don’t look at a Gaudi house in Barcelona and say, “Great, a white man did that” or go to the Parthenon and think, “Go white people”. The popularity of black music, actors, politicians and sports figures supported by white interest and dollars is obvious yet the opposite nowhere to be found. If Jane Austen, science fiction, model railroading and 10,000 other things had to rely on a multifaceted black interest in larger culture they would disappear.
There is simply no equivalency here, none, and it is nowhere more evident than in the Obama/Wright/Holder consortium which is the tip of a very large iceberg. This is based on research I did for a book about the perceptual trap black Americans find themselves in which was kicked off by the Rev. Wright affair. Otherwise, I find the subject an unhealthy one yet the glaring elephant in the American room when it comes to an utter lack of even-handedness.

I’m pretty lucky and blessed in that most of the minority guys I live and work with out at sea are pretty much just regular schmucks who seem to give no more thought to their racial/ethnic status than I do to my own.

I have seen every one of the above names give speeches that would lead to any white doing the same being utterly ostracized and without exception each one is an utter racist.
How else can one portray people who are provisionally against the idea of character by skin color who at the same time link me to slavery by skin color; it is utter delusion and hypocrisy. In the minds of these stalwarts, black prison populations are a sign of only one thing, my own endemic racism; individual competence and responsibility is ignored and inflated according to their racist agenda with the only consistent philosophy being that they are always right and racism is the be-all and end-all answer, a human attribute they are dreamily and happily devoid of.
I have spent 6 years of my life in 13 non-white Third World countries including a year in half black Brazil and on not one single occasion, not one mind you, have I ever seen a single behavior to match what I have seen black Americans do hundreds if not thousands of times in the US. To you this is somehow racism and to me my eyes. What we’re really talking about is cultural values and not skin color. Some 70 million black Brazilians bear no resemblance to some 35 million black Americans as far as I can tell and I have been all over Brazil and America.
I worked at a warehouse with 600 men. The blacks had their own table at break although everyone got along really well. Still, it’s anecdotal and cannot compare with research and reality and your vulgarity is a sure sign of a man who has run out of anything to say.

When I was younger, I saw the bumper sticker, “America – Love it, or Leave it!” and thought it was trite. I’m to the point of resurrecting it.
Only I might add as footnote, “And can the hyphenated race designations while you’re at it.”

I’m half encouraged that the t.v. crew knew when to switch off the cameras. It shows some awareness that this guy’s speech was inappropriate. Unfortunately the next step for them was to suppress it; maybe one of them will figure out there’s an alternative next step, something about working their way to a different conclusion than the one they had before the event even began.

You have to understand that to the Left everything that has been said, everything that has been written has dynamic meaning or is a “living document”. One that can be re-interpreted and changed as necessary to fit the desired narrative. Looks to me like Mr. Wilson had been hitting the bottle before he grabbed the mic.
I was watching it on CSPAN and felt it was like a political rally. Clapping, whistling, and carrying on like that. And then when Obama got up the crowd went wild – BUT I heard some good boos too!. I am sorry – the Left politicized even the memorial service – I turned it off in the middle of King Obama’s speech.
As if you had any doubts, this “memorial” proved, once & for all, decorum is dead in this country. It was like Paul Wellstone II. I expected the DNC to pass out “Yes We Can” buttons. Compare this to memorials for 9/11 or Oklahoma City. If one of my loved ones were being “remembered” in last night’s “atmoshphere,” I would’ve being very….let’s just say “offended.”

I agree. I was appalled with the behavior of the ‘audience’ at the supposed memorial. But then I realized it was being held in a gym on a University campus so the cheering at a somber event wasn’t surprising. Much of our youth have not been taught basic manners. They acted like they were at a rock concert. Sadly, if I had been a family member, I would have walked out. So offensive.

On one hand, the post’s author is is against the Palin posters because she had nothing to do with the shootings ~ well, bravo for reason! But in the very next sentence, you get the typically catty, “Championing a party that, at its core, centers around a collective dislike of President’s Barack Obama’s melanin levels? I think that in this case the media action was appropriate. The reason they stopped filming might have been because the statements conflicted with the narrative. This time, however, I’m happy they did.
Roy Wilson is a nobody, “Program Director of Oakland’s Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Center” and therefore isn’t really newsworthy. He was probably hoping to both boost his liberal appeal to like-minded people and get some time on the news. In a way he is like the Westboro Baptists. Step one, say or do something offensive. Step two, see your face plastered on the media for weeks. Step three, convert fame (infamy) into group-think credit.
If the media would stop falling all over itself to display its indignation, while joyfully watching their ratings, then maybe we wouldn’t see people like the Westboro Baptists extort air-time by threatening to protest the funeral of a 9 year old girl.

I’m guessing the CDC down in Atlanta probably has a team working full-time on figuring this one out.
It’s a bipartisan disorder, by the way. Lots and lots of Repubs have contracted it as well, and susceptibility among them seems to increase in direct proportion to time spent in office. I’m sincerely hoping that the CDC can classify this national threat and make their recommendations. In the meantime as a prophylactic measure I encourage everyone to consider implementing term limits on all nationwide offices so that we can spare the children of the nation the frightening sight of seeing unhinged adult politicians ranting about invisible bogeymen causing violence.

On Wednesday, President Obama visited gravely wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in her hospital room and later revealed during his address at a memorial service for the slain and injured in Tucsonthe very good news that Giffords had opened her eyes for the first time since she was shot.
In his speech, he called for America’s healing even as his Secretary of State was preaching more divisiveness.
Obama pleaded for national healing in the aftermath of the tragedy which resulted in 6 deaths and 13 wounded, allegedly by Jared Loughner wielding a Glock 19. Progressive influence and control have undermined the foundations of personal responsibility throughout this society. The moral imperative asserting that the internal feelings of someone are the sole responsibility of that person, has been deliberately trashed. Undermining that ethos precludes individual responsibility for any subsequent personal decision as to what to do about such feelings, including how to react (or not). This morality between God and the individual is anathema to progressives; it directly interferes with their ability to control each member of society, and has been diabolically weakened over the decades by the progressive agenda in communications, entertainment, journalism, and education.
Each time a so-called conservative argues as to what is or is not “hate speech”, he has already succumbed to leftist assumptions. A true conservative does not believe in the concept of hate speech in the first place. Instead he believes in free speech. The give and take of unfettered speech in a free society is assumed to allow the populace to hear all sides, separate the good from the bad, and then make an informed choice. A society of mature individuals is also assumed to take on the burden of personal responsibility for both individual feelings and any subsequent actions. A government under the control of society resists any attempt to pre-judge speech, as if its citizens lacked such basic decision-making skills that they needed outside authority to insulate precious feelings and thoughts. The only way that could be accomplished is to have such authority dictate what feelings and thoughts are permissible, i.e., the thought control of a tyranny.
These traditionalist principles have been destroyed by the left. Add to that the tactics and strategies of cultural Marxism. Now progressives immediately trot out their premeditated hypocrisy, designed as a power play for the next quasi-legal attempt to gain control of their opponents. In short, the left is deliberately inciting hatred of the right, based not on facts, but on progressive fantasies and meta-narratives. When are Conservatives going to wake up and realize that those whom they still suppose to be mere political opponents are instead a vicious enemy, one who has already battered down the door?
While the tenor of the event at Oakland wasnt completely a
public blame-o-thon of the partisan conservative villains, the one
in Tuscon which turned into an Obama re-election pep rally was
disgusting. Last night, in Tuscon, the hypocrite of hypocrites
lived up to his name. When Obama got up to speak at the University
of Arizona, it was like a turkey shoot. All the targets, from Sarah
to Glenn to Rush to every conservative voice in the media had been
set up by the leftstream media with a bulls eyes on their
foreheads. It began just hours after the attack in Tuscon. Key to
setting up this conservative turkey shoot was the miscreant of
miscreants; Clarence Dupnic, the imbecilic Arizona cop who primed
the scurrilous pump of disingenuous partisan blame. He told us on
TV that the Tea Party, Palin and Rush were to blame. But Dupnic
wasnt alone. Hours after the attack at the Safeway, Paul Krugman
wrote a heinous piece filled with the same links and lies aimed at
accusing conservatives voices of murder. His article in The New
York Times lit the fuse, saying they were the ones who really
pulled the Glock trigger over and over again. The mainstream media
in all their biased glory did the rest. Smelling blood in
conservative water, they pounced on every conservative name they
could think of, proceeding to wipe the floor with the demons that
created this sharply parisan environment; The leftstream media
shouted their names from the rooftops. Among the targets in the
Democratic mainstream media blame game were Rush, Sarah, Glenn,
Oreilly, Savage. Fox News. The entire Tea Party. Piling on like
maggots on a dying carcass, they wrote their lying narrative; that
conservative vitriol had caused the final screw to go loose in a
psychpaths brain. Then the Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton
chimed in, telling the world that Jarad the killer is a political
extremist like so many members of the Tea Party. It quickly became
clear to Obama that all he had to do in his major speech in Tuscon
was prattle on about the lack of civility. When the Obama
speechwriters realized the audience would mentally fill in the
blanks with the names of the conservatives responsible for creating
this poisonous partisan political environment, they jumped around
like school boys who had just a won a big game against an arch
rival. Everybody in the audience would know who Obama, without
saying it, blamed for this polarized country whose lack of civility
as Obama would put it in his speech was causing awful things to
happen. The mainstream media had done their dirty partisan job;
blood libel of the worst kind. Fifteen or so minutes into the
memorial service (AKA political pep rally for Obama)the anointed
one began using the deaths of honest, hard working, well meaning
Americans as a jumping off point to demonstrate his incredible
hypocrisy that we become more civil; that we lower the harshness of
todays political rhetoric; bringing guns to knife fights. Remarks
about political hand to hand combat. The demonizing of political
opponents by calling them enemies. All of which, of course, have
come out of none other than Obamas mouth as he uses lessons
learned in the hypocriteshandbook. While Obama tried to hide it,
he was playing the most vile of political hardball. Leaping from
the backs of the dead to grab political points. At one point in the
speech came the Obama head fake. Heres what he said. If this
tragedy prompts reflection and debate — as it should — lets make
sure its worthy of those we have lost. Lets make sure its not on
the usual plane of politics and point-scoring and pettiness that
drifts away in the next news cycle. Then Obama proceeded to do
precisely what he just rejected. The next paragraph made the turn
that set up the attack on uncivility, which in reality was the way
Barry locked and unloaded on his unnamed targets of opportunity;
Palin conservative company. The loss of these wonderful
people should make every one of us strive to be better. To be
better friends and neighbors and coworkers and parents. And if, as
has been discussed in recent days, their death helps usher in more
civility in our public discourse, let us remember it is not because
a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy — it did not — but
rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can
help us face up to the challenges of our nation in a way that would
make them proud. The above paragraph was built on the same thing
every major Obama speech in built on: Lies. The media called it a
wonderful speech. After 400 death threats on Sarah Palin in the 24
hours since the speech, its apparent what Obama really
participated in. A verbal bloodbath of blame.

I have been trying to find out why the Democrats\ left is
so upset about Sarah Palin. I have gone to different leftist
websites to gain an insight but all I can find are ad hominem
arguments and personal attacks spiced up with a copious amount of
F*, C* and B* words. Most of the rubbish seems to be written by
illiterate 14 year olds who can hardly string a sentence together.

Was Barack Obama ever a law professor?

In 1996, Sweet wrote, Obama was appointed senior lecturer, a position he maintained at the law school until 2004, when he resigned to run for the U.S. Senate.
