An Open Letter to Nancy Pelosi — Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Dear Madam Speaker:
I understand you are calling for an investigation of those who oppose the construction of the mosque at Ground Zero to uncover the financial sources behind their opposition.
I am one of those people. I have attacked the construction of the mosque, sometimes quite vehemently, on several occasions, on PJM and PJTV. I hereby humbly beseech you to investigate me.
Me first, Nancy! Me me me me. Investigate me!
Maybe you’ll find some money I was paid for my opposition — I haven’t found any myself — and I could use it. I’m trying to do some home remodeling and you know how pricey that gets these days.
Frankly, I’m feeling like a schmuck. I hurled all that invective and didn’t make dime one. And, unlike you, I’m not married to a multi-millionaire financier. So have a little compassion and investigate me. At least it might generate some publicity. As a writer, I could use the PR. I might parlay it into a script deal on the Nancy Pelosi Story. (I see an aging Renee Zellweger with hair extensions.)
Okay, that’s a long shot. But I don’t want you to feel bad. People might think you’re three sheets short of a yard because you overlooked the fact your buddy Harry Reid also opposes the mosque. And you wouldn’t want to investigate him, unless you’re Sharron Angle, which, trust me, we know you’re not.
And don’t let the fact that you won’t be speaker anymore get you down. Almost everybody else is happy about that. Learn to rejoice in their happiness. And be glad you won’t be embarrassing your constituents so much anymore. Many of them, even if they are knee-jerk liberals of the most conventional sort in one of the most conventionally liberal districts in the solar system, are probably secretly wondering why they ever elected you in the first place. After all, the state of California is an economic catastrophe and even liberals have 401ks.
So investigate away, I say. And if you pick me, don’t be deterred by the fact that I’m an agnostic who, unlike you, is appalled by Sharia law and its psycho-sexually sadistic treatment of women. You were quite content wearing a head scarf in Saudi Arabia. After all, you’ve already made it through the glass ceiling. Screw the rest of them.
And don’t be bothered either by Sharia law and its treatment of homosexuals. Tolerance of other traditions is the rule. Never mind if they hang gays in Iran. They’re are all fine in San Francisco and, as Ahmadinejad told us, homosexuals don’t exist in Iran anyway.
And don’t, above all, be concerned with what that Austro-British philosopher Karl Popper said. You’ve probably never heard of him anyway, so it shouldn’t alarm you. But here it is in any case:
“Unlimited tolerance must lead to the disappearance of tolerance. If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society … then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them. … We should therefore claim, in the name of tolerance, the right not to tolerate the intolerant.”
Got that? No, I suppose not.

Actually after 9/11 I remember an article in the Village Voice calling the American flag a symbo of opression and imperialism. I remember Bill Maher calling the terrorists courageous. I remember the usual assortment of lefties saying it was America’s fault and we deserved to be hated.
The difference was that for a few months the ordinary, quiet American was heard from. The people who work hard, and raise their families and don’t usually have the time to err their politics in public, took the time to let their love for their country be heard. For a brief time the sound of Americans loving their country was louder than the left wing America bashing.
But then ordinary Americans went back to their work and their family and the cacophany of the left had the stage all to themselves again.

I think the “creepy clown” may show his face after the November elections, when Obama gets so angry that his mask comes off, and he goes into meltdown. 1)Wanted to implement a “Fairness Doctrine”, that apparently extended…well, basically toward Fox News and Rush Limbaugh…but not to Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow…or to 400 members of a secret society that buries facts and conspires to call people racist.
I don’t want to see you targeted as a racist or thrown through a plate glass window. (unless you were starring in a Western that you wrote and it was one of those Hollywood glass windows starring Clint Eastwood and you got the girl in the final scene)
2)They want to build a “private army” of citizens, that chant slogans on behalf of the administration and put up pictures of the leaders.
This scares me, Roger. I am the shy, retiring type…as you may have noticed from many of my comments here on your site. Especially since the law enforcement arm of this administration seems to think it’s quite fine to wield a billy club and talk about murdering “cracker babies”….something tells me we won’t be able to rely on them. You know, they might turn a blind eye toward bullying and intimidation that isn’t solely confined to scrawny and pasty Journolist type offenders.
3) They invented their own seal and everything, Roger. I mean, think about this before you get all defiant one on us, and confront the Madam Speaker. Their own seal, their own private army, the CEO of the company that owns the NBC family of propaganda and puff pieces screaming at his employees to not utter a word of negativity, much less a peep of principled dissent, a JournoKlan out targeting dissenters with slanders of racism and fantasies of violence? These are scary times, Roger. I am too afraid to stand by your side. I’m not sure I want to even stand behind you.
4)Roger, you are just one person. True, a talented and skilled person who has built a site highlighting some of the greatest essayists in modern day politics, but this is an administration that won’t even tolerate a peep of disagreement from their OWN side, much less allow unfettered truth to be told. 5)You are waving a red cape at an unpredictable bull in the ring, Roger. She believes she is powerful enough to scoff at the whole of this country, Roger. To ignore their will and impose her own. Her attitude toward any one person standing up to her would be “Don’t make me laugh”. Of course, we can’t make her laugh. She’s a humorless, ill-tempered shrew. But that’s beside the point.
She is willing to cram through legislation nobody wants, to sue entire states that want merely to secure their borders, she wants to call citizens “homegrown terrorists”, Roger.

If the mosque gets built, then I hope you will visit “Delia’s and Leigh’s Restaurant” right next door, serving our world famous ribs (pork) and our best selling sandwiches, BLTs and bacon cheeseburgers. I think Nancy tells us much about her and her colleages in this. The concern about nefarious funding I think results from her own familiarity with dark funding of astroturfed issues groups. They can’t believe that truly held beliefs and arguments would motivate anyone. Soros funding, the use of SEIU thugs, the formation of front groups like ACORN, Tides etc have warped their view of the world to where truth is just inconcievable.

Which explains why the instincts of La Pee (et al.) immediately go to what the nefarious motives of the opposition might be.
Liberals can’t deraw any kind of crowd for any event, protest ot pep-rally, unless that bus in the crowd, provide a box lunch, and pay the participants for the day at union rates. So of course they must believe the same must be true of conservatives, except conservatives – when they get fired up about something that concerns them, whether it’s high taxes, too-controlling a government, or a mosque to commemorate Islamic victory over the USA near Ground Zero – have no trouble expressing their opinions without any sort of reward.
I agree that this may be the most remarkable thing about Pelosi’s remarks.
(1) She seems to actually believe someone is “funbding” opposition to this mosque. Americans are not simply having opinions, they are being “ginned up” to them by someone, and the “funding” for that must be investigated. This is very much the world of Daily Kos, Huffington Post and the rest. Pelosi obviously never ventures outside that alternate universe.
(2) This mosque is not a Democrat thing. In fact, a majority of Dem voters in NYC oppose the mosque. So why would she automatically defend it, knowing nothing really about it? I say, because the radicals of today’s Left must always oppose everything American, always assume Americans are wrong about everything, and that everyone else is right, especially those who criticize or attack us. This was a very revealing knee jerk reaction, as was bama’s first utterances.
(3) She is obvlivious to how her statements look to most Americans. Sure, her constituents in SF may cheer, but she is the SPeaker of the House, a major leader of a party in popular freefall at the moment, and here she is essentially telling a majority of voters that not only are they wrong, but they must have their “finding” investigated. Stunningly bad politics.
(4) What does she think her statements will accomplish? Does she think it will change peoples’ minds? Scare them? Shame them? But, it is the same as last year’s comments of August, calling Tea Partiers and town hall participants, Nazis and Astroturf. Does she really think the people she is describing will re-evaluate themselves and see themselves that way? It’s really hard to see what she can imagine these ramarks will do for her, the Dems or the mosque.
She was just pissed off that everyone wanted to talk about the mosque in NYC and not how her backers managed to steal Treasure Island in San Fran Bay away from the US Navy.
Dear Roger: Are you serious? Are you, really? Are you joking? I don’t know what I’ve said or done to earn such…well…how to put a nice word on it: Sarcasm? And invective? Hate? I’ve half a mind (and I DARE you go comic about that!) to propose to the House that someone introduce a bill that would ban all hateful thoughts and words by outsiders (meaning the electorate, and especially Tea Partiers) about the members here, including me, and we’d only need to dither over punishments and penalties. You and everyone else would need to wait for the bill to be passed and sent up to the Senate and the White House to see what’s in it.
Of course, that would require the creation of a new federal enforcement agency. Something like the Gestapo, or the Stasi, or the KGB. You want effective, efficient government? We can oblige you. I understand those people were very effective moral conditioners and dispellers of bad feelings.
Now, I really wouldn’t want to do such a thing, but you must admit it would be good for the country, good for communications, a fine corrective for preserving the power of those who know better than you what’s good for you. You know how bad feelings and bad thoughts can simply ruin perfectly good relationships, and here I thought we had one, until people began asking me questions, and saying that “we lie,” and insisting on poking their notes into the House’s business, and just behaving like Americans gone wild. It’s intolerable and very saddening.
About the Ground Zero mosque matter: We have reviewed all the information available about Imam Rauf and his partners and his funding sources, and have concluded that they’re irrelevant and the mosque will pose no security threat to this country. Of course, all the available information is hard to interpret, because all references to Muslims and Islam and terrorists have been banned from intelligence memos and the like, so it’s just your word against ours. Very difficult for you.
Now, Roger, if you want me to propose an investigation into your opposition funding, I will. But wouldn’t you just rather I hit you over the head with my Speaker’s gavel? It would be so much simpler a solution. And, by the way, don’t write me off as unelectable. Our Leader and I and Mr. Reid have some pretty tricky cards up our sleeves, so we’ll have the last laugh.

Actually, this really is a First Amendment case but not in the way that people think. You see, St Nicholas Orthodox Church was destroyed when the WTC collapsed. The parish has been trying to get the Port Authority to ok their rebuilding plans. As of this moment the Port Authority won’t let them do it. By allowing the Mosque to be built at ground zero the City is giving the appearance of favoring one religion over another. As we all know the mere appearance of favoring Islam over Christianity is sufficient to violate the establishment clause. So the ALCU should to go to court to stop the project.
So it took until the 16th post before a lefty showed up but I just knew they would.
None of us here have advocated that no mosques should be built in the USA – just not at/near ground zero. I’m sure you are already aware that muslims tend to build their most important mosques at/near places of their most important victories.

Contact your congressman, especially if they happen to be a Democrat, demand that when they return to DC after the August recess they confront the Speaker and demand she surrender the Gavel of the Speakership. If your representative is Republican demand that they demand she publically from the Floor of the House recant her statement and apologise to the American people. The Cordoba Project facility is not any sort of defining “test” of America and Americans as unsurprisingly promulgated by the (understandably) increasingly desperate left. This matter is important not because of what it tells us about America, but what it tells us about Islam in America.
The Cordoba Project facility is a clear and straightforward indication of the state Islam in America, it’s mindset, motives and intentions. The only “test” in this matter was given and answered when Islamics in America made their choice as to location of their facility and what to house within it.
That the Islamics also chose to house within the facility the “Sharia Index Project” that measures nations level of compliance with Sharia law, is just one more important, clarifying fact provided to the American people.
What has been happening since those decisions were made public is dialogue and debate (rowdy yes, but essential and ultimately American) regarding what those choices tell us about Islamics in America. Which as Americans, notwithstanding Nancy Pelosi (the soon to be former Speaker of the House), we are perfectly free to do.
We all know that The Islamics’ choice was neither forced nor coerced in any way and was made with full knowledge as to the significant negative impact of that choice on the vast majority of Americans from all walks of American life: Democrats, Independents, Republicans, Jews, Atheists, Catholics and some Muslims.
