The Iranian Regime continues to push the edge of the totalitarian envelope by engaging in show trials straight out of the Stalin era.

For Stalin: The principal tactic was to charge the defendants, under Article 58 of the RSFSR Penal Code, with conspiring with the western powers to assassinate Stalin and other Soviet leaders, dismember the Soviet Union and restore capitalism.

For A-jad and company: An Iranian court on Saturday charged a French woman, two Iranians working for the British and French embassies in Tehran and dozens of others with spying and aiding a Western plot to overthrow the system of clerical rule.

Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme… as they say. No wonder the Russians have so far been the greatest allies of Tehran in the mullah’s quest for nuclear weapons.

But let me get this straight – our administration wants to negotiate with these thugs? What’s the point? Would you take their word for anything for ten minutes? The article continues: It was the second mass trial in a week aimed at uprooting the moderate opposition and ending protests that erupted after the disputed June 12 presidential election.

So it goes.

Would you take their word for anything for ten minutes?

Would you take our administration’s? Obama hasn’t done anything like show trials, but as far as the value of their word in negotiations, ask PhRMA.

It seems like a terrible overreach for Iran to charge a French citizen. Sarkozy was acting like the interim leader of the free world when just principle was at stake, and France is that rarest of places, a Western nuclear power that isn’t completely ashamed of itself.

This whole administration gives me the creeps. From flag.whitehouse.gov as a response to legitimate dissent on the healthcare debacle, from the abandonment of the Iranian people in favor of the current thugacracy, to the embrace of another thug in Honduras.

We treat our traditional friends like strangers (the UK, Israel), and we want to negotiate with apocolyptic madmen.

Our country is changing, and not for the better. It’s like an American coup, with the MSM in full PRAVDA mode, supporting our Supreme Leader, discounting critics and ignoring our naked “Emperor”.

I’m no “black helicopter” guy, but all of this stuff, combined, scares the hell out of me.

    Well, thuggery loves company.

Besides, Dinner-Jacket “won” that election fair and square, Gibbs told me so on the Tee Vee.

The Mullahs will just have to watch out for themselves.

Roger,I was talking the other day to an e-friend in Teheran,an oppositionist(an enchantingly pretty lady who chafes at headscarfs and long dresses!).She says” I hear that Obama has accepted his presidency?”.Told her yeah, more or less.Told her don’t expect anything from him.

Obama and company are experts at mob manipulation, “community organizing”, race-class-gender polemics and Chicago machine politics. In that hardboiled world, all personal facilities must be focused on those sordid subjects to survive and thrive, to the exclusion of wider frames such as world history.

It’s unlikely that Obama would have any interest in the concept of show trials, unless perhaps he could count on his uncritical media followers to aid and assist him in mounting such a production against his own political enemies in Washington.

Is Eric Holder’s sortie against the CIA on ‘torture’ a trial balloon along such lines?

But let me get this straight – our administration wants to negotiate with these thugs?

Yes, our “liberal” administration wants to negotiate with mystic, theocratic tyrants who endorse “honor” killings, wife beating and child rape (what else do you call marital relations with a 9 year old girl, which is permitted in Iran?) — who execute homosexuals and stone women for extra-marital sex — who ban books, music and art — who forbid one sex from appearing in public without the other sex’s permission — all the while claiming to be operating on instructions from the supernatural.

Whatever those who call themselves “liberals” may believe in these days, it evidently has nothing to do with liberty.

Sometimes I get the feeling that Obama kind of envies the mullahs. After all, wouldn’t life be easier if Barack could just tell people to shut up and put them in jail if they did not? Simpatico.

  9. 9. Gaffe Prices

That does it Roger L. Simon, how dare you criticize a legitimate government: now you’re gonna get Barack-listed!

No Roger, the new Stalin resides on Pennsylvania Ave in DC. 52% of the populace just didn’t realize it until recently. Some of them still don’t.
