Rich Galen gives the word from Bamiyan, Afghanistan in an interesting column on their recent elections – Democracy Happened. (In case you don’t remember – I didn’t – Bamiyan is the place where the Taliban blew up those giant statues of Buddha.)
(ht: Rick Ballard)

Democracy is not for the feint of heart, stomach, or mind, or work ethic. It’s hard work even where well established.
Tryanny, on the other hand, is easy. Just hunker down and do what you’re told, when you’re told, and hope nobody selects you as the one to make an example of.
Roger,
A little OT but neverless something to think about in winning the GWOT in this war of info and ideology.
See my post in your thread below re the perverts in the world of Islam that seek justification for the abhorrent abuse both physical and sexual of women and children.

ot, i know, but i thought some might enjoy a little schadenfreude: http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001140229
sadly, though, “They promised this would not impact the quality of the paper’s journalism.”

I find that as time goes by in its inexorible way, that this particular dish is becoming more and more tasty.
I put this down to the times in which we live and the creatures who clearly appear to deserve ill fortune.
Of course it could also just be a result of an unpleasant personal pettiness.—— NAH !!!
Too bad that the NYT and other old time media giants can’t see the forest for the trees. They drive customers and advertisers toward the blogosphere with their refusal to acknowledge the bias and arrogance of their organizations. Again this past week, Paul Krugman was exposed for manipulating facts. Was there a quick retraction and correction? Nope! Business as usual. This model worked fine when there was no alternative, but the public wants it facts straight. They are very forgiving of honest mistakes promptly corrected, but very harsh on the Rather’s, Raines’and Eason Jordan’s of the world.

Sorry for the double post. First time I got an error with instructions to repost.
Ed Poinsett,
Was there a quick retraction and correction? Nope! Business as usual.
Straight out of the Communist playbook. Hitler’s too.
…the public wants it facts straight.
Ummm, no, I’d say that only applies to about half the public. The other half wants to get BUSH! at any cost.
Rich Galen provides a clear and concise first hand report on a very important election. He’s there and he provides an eye witness account of democracy in action. Through his blog.
On the other hand, the search function (using ‘Afghanistan’ as the key) at Pinch’s rag provides wire service accounts containing the word Afghanistan – but little on the election, and nothing first hand.
“All the news that fits your views”, Pinch, means you need to lay in a larger stock of pink slips – soon.
Incidentally, regarding the deafening silence on the Afghan elections from the MSM. Good op piece from a former intelligence agent here.
It’s behind a sign-in, but I quote its important parts here.
