I haven’t paid much attention to where I went to college for years. But for some reason this blog has changed that. First these guys pop prominently to view (and become friends). Then this woman makes some of the most interesting comments on this (or any) blog (and becomes a friend.) Earlier today my college pioneers a new way of voting for its trustees that could be copied by all. And then this undergraduate produces one of the smartest student blogs anywhere. His discussion of today’s article in The Independent is superb. Not bad, Dartmouth. Your reputation is improving around here, deservedly. (Of course, there’s always Animal House.)
Not to forget….

O/T except for the animal translating tangent, but, the “We’re for dogs!” ad running on cable TV (it’s by a dogfood vendor, natch) is the best TV ad to come along in good while.
All I can say is that may ancient ancestor Eleazer Wheelock, whose name I bear, would be proud, DAMNED proud, of all of you.
Yrs,
Gerard Wheelock Van der Leun
One can only hope that Dartmouth, Yale, Harvard, and the other ìeliteî schools get their act together. This much is for sure: they have caused enormous harm. Havenít they done anything right? Well, not enough that I can see to balance out the damage.
Laura Ingraham voice blogs. (No comments section. But she does read email.)
Let’s see, now. I’ve been told that Animal House was inspired by the Jewish fraternity at Dartmouth, and it takes place in the autumn of 1962, which is probably just about when you were there, Roger. Were you Otter? Bluto? Come on, tell us which character you inspired. Your secret is safe with us.
Because of my ancestral association with Dartmouth I have access to classified documents that reveal Roger was…. Mandy Pepperidge.
Keep it quiet.
Gosh, poor Mandy…imagine having to pull pre-final all-nighters with John Belushi. ‘Sa wonder you gradiated, Mandy!
