Hmm — Cheney is both over 65 and a heart patient, which doubly qualifies him as being actually at risk. So, yes, Kerry needs to apologize, immediately.
I work in health care and so far our clients have been able to get the flu shot.
But I won’t get it. I never have. I am allergic.
But watching the Democrats try to make this politcal is just disgusting. Kerry even said he warned Bush this would happen, what bull shit. I am waiting for Kerry to say that Bush did this on purpose to kill off a bunch of old people and babies.
If they want to blame someone blame guys like Edwards… low profit margins and high liablility costs are among the reasons only a handful of drug makers want to bother with vaccines.
And yes Cheney should have a shot. It is none of asshole’s business anyway.
The amazing thing is that my contempt for Kerry is growing day by day. That I, a lifelong Democrat/liberal can feel this depth of rage and contempt for the Democratic nominee is nothing short of astounding. Every time he opens his mouth he sinks lower and lower in my estimation. The dirtiest below-the-belt POS Presidential candidate I can ever remember (and I ain’t young).
I shudder to think there’s even a CHANCE that he could be elected.
I think this is a purposeful move for Kerry. One of the criticisms of Cheney from the left is that he’s frail and not generally in good health. Perhaps the Kerry camp is just waiting for Bush to respond and admit just that. I think an effective response would be something like “The Vice-President takes as good care of himself as possible and is able to perform all official duties, which he of course could not if he had the flu.”

Tell me about it. When Kerry comes on TV I have to mute the sound because the mere sound of his voice makes my skin crawl.
Too bad more Democrats don’t react like we do. The sob would have to go back to MA, where he can do little lasting harm.

Guess Kerry “forgot” Bill Clinton got a shot, too. I don’t remember him criticising Billy Jeff.
The worst part of the entire episode is that it clearly shows that, once again, the Kerry campaign completely misunderstands national security! Imagine for a minute that the President has a really debilitating case of the flu. Wouldn’t Kerry want someone there who wasn’t sick in the event of another 9/11? But of course to the Kerry campaign that doesn’t matter if they can win! Defeat the US is their motto!
I’d be interested in seeing just when Cheney got his shot. I doubt he’d put it off. It’s quite possible that he got it done before the shortage happened.
Expect the nastiness to ratched up even more over the next 12 days.

Uh, Dean, as a Choctaw, I’ve got to say that I don’t find that argument very comforting at all.

I missed getting a flu shot by a day — I had an appointment for it the morning after the shortage was announced. I’m under 50 (barely) and in ridiculously good health, but you can’t give the shot back.

Oops — sorry about the over 65 reference to Cheney. I actually thought he was a bit older than that. Not that it makes much difference, he still qualifies for the shot.
BTW — has Kerry and crew considered that Bill Clinton has also gotten a flu shot? For the same reason that Cheney has gotton one — both are cardiac patients.

It’s such a load of hype anyway. There are young, healthy people paying extortion prices for flu vaccine when they wouldn’t have normally gotten one.

I hope this is somewhat on-topic: Hope you all saw Liz Cheney on O’Reilly yesterday. She is awesome! Completely focused and articulate, she skewered Kedwards for their comments about her sister, Mrs. Bush, Christopher Reeves, etc.
We need to see more of Ms. Cheney in the next 10 days and beyond.
Statements like this just reflect foolish thinking on the part of the campaign. They don’t buy you any votes in the middle and they rile up the Republican base. I’ve gotten over a dozen emails on this one already.
