Here’s the President of the United States “reassuring” Americans who are thinking about buying a car from Chrysler or GM (i.e, “Government Motors”):
“Your warrantee will be safe.
In fact, it will be safer than it’s ever been. Because starting today, the United States government will stand behind your warrantee.”
What? Not feeling better after all? How can that be?

After schilling for the auto industry, the appearance on Leno, and a host of other gaffes, I’m having trouble distinguishing our President from the ShamWow guy.
… my manager will kill me, but for another $500 I can throw in the undercoating if you’ll drive this baby home today!
The US government has failed to uphold my Constitutional rights and has, in the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence;”…erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.”
And I should trust them with my powertrain?
The idea is that the new, nationalized Mr./Ms. Goodwrench associates will drive our cars into the official federal repair bays, find that the vehicles emit too much of something, impound them as threats to the environment, and crush them before our eyes into cubes of scrap for recycling.
Once electricity has been made unaffordable by punitive taxation of the coal and petroleum industries, the government will issue electric car tax credits to their carless victims. Lotsa luck, guys!
