The American Red Cross Is Defending Their CEO's $500k Salary

Many charities have been criticized for having high overhead in the face of natural disasters, and the American Red Cross is not immune. Though they are providing the most services on the ground in Texas and Louisiana, the media is calling into question their CEO’s salary. Suzy DeFrancis, their chief public affairs officer, went on MSNBC and said that “our CEO is very much in the middle range of salaries for charities and, particularly, for a charity the size…” The NBC interviewer responded, “Half a million dollars?!?” DeFrancis just stuck with the medium range argument.
