Writing a Letter to My Friend in Heaven Upon Receiving His Final Book

With the publication of Silent Revolution: How the Left Rose to Political Power and Cultural Dominance, it's time to finish the tears, accept that we've really lost Barry, and get back to the work he'd have wanted.

Dear Barry, Your book just arrived in the mail. You already know that, of course, now that you’re in Heaven, one with the Divine, and now enjoying life outside of time. It must be wonderful for you now, knowing how The Story turns out in the end. Now I’m remembering why I haven’t managed to do a more thorough article yet about what you’ve meant to me. It’s been almost two months now and I guess a certain part of me is still in the denial phase. At one level I just want to pretend you’re having a long break while going through a rough chemo treatment. But that’s not an option anymore. It never should have been. Those of us who you taught have a responsibility to continue your tradition of scholarship, writing, and activism. Time to get back to work now. with respect, David Swindle

I am sorry for your loss David. Rubin will be missed. All these holes. Sometimes it's too much to take. "Life outside of time." I like the sound of that. Something I hear at church every Sunday comes to mind...may His light shine down upon you, may He go before you to show you the way, behind you to encourage you and beside you to give you His peace. :)

I am home in Heaven, dear ones:
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but God's' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread:
And with God's arm to lean on
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not greive so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in God's land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home.
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
